LOL...never been stared at by a jack-o-lantern before..I kinda like it though...:)

Jack likes it too. You'll notice his stem is sticking straight up. :D

I was wondering that too.

Hey, Ukin, you're going to have to start speaking American, or else we're going to have to set up an English dictionary to go with this thread. ;)

Does that mean I have to lose my upperclass accent? (My oh my..that is a laugh...you are as Upperclass as EJ is titless)

No, I think we all like you as you are. That's one of the great things about a board like this. Everyone brings something unique in.

That's so true! Where else can you find such a mixture? One of the things I like about lit is its diversity.

Well said. I'll second that.

Ah..that's the Cockney. The East Enders (of London) made their own speak..so that the West and the South Londoners couldn't understand. There used to be lot's of Gang fights back in the early 1900's..and it carried on throughout to the Kray Twins (Watch that film if you can...it's awesome and true). Anyway..here are a few:
Apple & Pairs = Stairs
Tit For Tat (Titfer) = Hat
Thruppenny Bits= Tits
Syrup (syrup of fig) = Wig
Dickie Dirt= Shirt
Plates of Meat = Feet
Boat race = face (She has a nice Boat..but no thruppennies lol)

Just a few cocney rhyming slang sayings...

Thanks for sharing those..funny stuff there..

One day, I'll have to give you some lessons in how to speak "southern." lol

Interesting Ukin. In different states here in the U.S., there are different thing that people say which people from another state might not understand.

EJ, anything unusual in terms of use or abuse of the language that comes to mind from GA?

There are tons of abuses of the English language in GA.

One of the ones that I get the most odd looks from is when I say "I'm fixin' to" That seems to be the one that most Californians can't quite get a hold of.

"Fixin to" as In I am Fixin to get Ukin on his knees and satisfy my hunger? ;)

Well, dayum sugah, if I had known you had a penchant for a sweet southern drawl, I would have been using mine here. LOL

Now, read that again, just the way those Myrtle Beach women would have said it. :)

I used to speak some of that, but it's been over 30 years since I last lived in the south, so I've lost it. As I recall, the southern speak was a little different in Alabama from what I heard in Georgia.

Interestingly enough, each southern state has its own unique dialect. The accents even have different nuances.

Oh and Cherrie could add some Tennessee Talk to this.
