Hello San Francisco and California! Finally arrived in CA after a long flight and ears popping like popcorn from the flight. It's actually different and I am still adjusting to actually living here—or at least on the cusp of it. Now let me get settled…

50th in Sacramento

Ralph here in Sacramento, celebrating my 50th birthday. -

Getting better with age.

on_the_verge, I'm so jealous. I can't wait to move back home to SF. Soon enough, another month or maybe a little more. Maybe I should change my location to what you'd had before. Hmm.

Correction, you are envious, no? Jealousy would be if I was on the beach tanning my soft mocha skin and soaking in the nuances of the S.F. vibe. Perhaps, you might catch me slipping my shorts down, just to get a bit more sun on my skin.

I think a tagline of being on your wat would be pretty hip. Just don't do a countdown, lol! :p

Thanks Lady_Sam and soon I will adjust and then I can start to have some fun, like I have on my previous visits. I think it will be a pleasure to meet others and to share. Just don't dare me!

Happt belated RalCat and let's…n/m!

Envious, yes. Guess my jealousy won't be coming out. I am not jealous of anyone who attempts to tan on SF beaches this time of year. :D (Though it IS warmer than Indiana right now - in the single digits with windchill below zero) Brrrr!!!

If you need any help on places to eat, or drink, or have fun, let me know. I and the others in SF and the surrounds will be glad to tell you our fave hangouts.

Guess I'm more envious than I can express. ;)

You mean I might have you as a personal tour guide in S.F., hmmm? Yippie! Actually, let me think about that…

I love different foods and places to eat that evoke a sense of warmth and the feeling like you are in another place and time. I prefer places with "history" or a trendy spot that is not so pretentious.

I lover to dance to electronica as well as Jazz and Swing. I would care for parks and the water (of course). Places where the nights slip into day and there is a mischievious glint in the air.

Places to be naughty or have an engaging conversation over left wing culture and the possiblities of human relation to sensuality and and social ideals.

Some place to play a game or discover a hidden gem at a market.

Perhaps a friend to whip into with a leather paddle, bought from a store in the Castro? A friend that loves to tease and pet, but not let it get heavy until…

Okay, I need a shower and to get downtown…soon.

Happy Birthday Ralph !! I'm not to far behind ya ! :eek:

Missy !!!

Here's a suggestion...

Have you checked out the Power Exchange? This looks like a trippy place.... www.powerexhange.com

I just started working in the city again after about a 10 year absence. Still trying to figure out the good lunch places, but the bar scene hasnt changed much. Bubbles is a fun place to go, but if you dont like champagne like myself, the rest of the booze selection kinda sucks. Great eye candy though...

Oh, you are going to LOVE San Francisco. You've just conjured up a million images, smells, sights and sounds. Gawd, I'm so homesick, I could scream.

Give me an idea about where you live. No specifics beyond district is fine. That'll give me an idea where to start. You'll need avante garde markets to stop at on the way home, lounges or bars to quench a thirst, restaurants and cafes that delight without long waits.

Oh, out in the Richmond District, in the higher avenues, on Geary Boulevard, there's a restaurant (if you like seafood) called Pacific Cafe. They don't take reservations, but if you have to wait, they serve complimentary wine (white if you don't request red), so it makes a pleasant wait. The seafood is great and the atmosphere quiet and wonderful for conversation.

Ah, so many things I can't wait to get back to.

No, I have not tried "the Power Exchange" and I most likely will not. I am suyre it's a *lovely* place, but I know that it's A) Commercial B) Overpriced C) It's most likely just for the curious D) I could have a better party at my flat.

In lieu of D) If I can gather, along with my partner in crime, a little get together that her and I have talked about. So, kick that mule and let's get the party started. Crossing digits into flesh and anywhere in between. It's nice to tap away, but I am sure it would be nice to…

Thanks though!

How you hit the mark with the Richmond District! Bravo!

:rose::heart::rose:

Ah, the Richmond District is IMHO a wonderful area to live in. Where else can you be close to the ocean and still have parking? :D

If you like Chinese, there's a great Chinese restaurant for takeout (the ambiance of the place itself sucks) called Little Wing Lee's. It's on Balboa in the upper avenues, like 46th or so. Balboa itself has wonderful little Berkeley-like bistros that are worth checking out.

Go into Laurel Heights on California Street for wonderful shops: grocery, deli, wine shop, Starbuck's, Peet's Coffee, drug store. Wonderful area.

See, you've got me started on my favorite city in the world!!!!

:heart::rose::heart:

Ok ok ok...I can't take it anymore. I've been lurking here for awhile, but haven't posted. I don't live in California, but I used to, and all this recent talk about SF is making me long to go home again.

I lived in the city as a little girl, very near Lombard St. As a teen, I lived in Marin County, more speciifcally, Novato. I haven't been back in over 15 years, and I still miss it. When I dream, more than likely it's set back in my old hometown.

Candy, can I come along with you? Maybe in a suitcase? I promise not to take up too much room...

:D

Yes, pipercatt, you can come back with me. I'll be preceding my hubby out, so I'll have room in the car. I've only been gone since last April and can't stand it. How have you taken it this long?

I can't wait to have a nice warm day, the kind where it's just warm enough to almost be uncomfortable, and then have the fog bank come in and cool everything off.

Long walks on Ocean Beach with a loved one, then climbing the hill to the Cliff House to gawk in the window of the gift shop.

Then climb further on up the hill to have a bite to eat at Louie's. Then climb up to Sutro Park to look out over the beach and Cliff House, out into the ocean as the sun sets. <sigh>

You can't tell I'm homesick, can you? :heart:

:rose::heart::rose:

I've forgotten a lot of the city, but I remember walking along the wharf, I was devestated when I heard about a fire there a few years back.

Drives into the wine country, all the winding curves, and my step-father take said curves too fast (grin).

We used to have friends in Antioch that owned a home in a marina, that place was party central. I used to love the drive from Marin out to Antioch.

The bridges, the ferry ride to Alcatraz, taking the bus from Novato into the city and walking everywhere. I used to live for the public transportation, because I never had my own car out there.

I never got to ride BART, tho..dammit.

Candy, I really envy you. Oh wait, you are taking me with you! YAY!

I actually enjoy BART for all everyone complains about it. The public transportation in the Bay Area is tops. I always knew that but never truly appreciated it till I moved to Indiana and had to buy a second car.

We got along fine in San Francisco with one car. I'd ride the bus from the Richmond District down to the Embarcadero and take BART over to Oakland where I worked. It was perfect.

Even if you have to fight the bridges every day, it's preferable to having to have a car to get anywhere, as in Indiana.

Got to stop that line of thinking. Bad karma. Indiana was good for me to experience. Makes me appreciate everything I left behind in San Francisco.

But I get to go home! Yippee skippee!!!!!!!

:rose::heart::rose:

Welcome Home!

It sounds like San Francisco will be an even stronger City with all of the new arrivals and returning citizens! Having lived in the Bay Area for over twenty years I can't imagine living anywhere else. Nothing is missing here. Great city, Great people, Great food, Great scenery, Great sailing, Great artistic community, we even have our adversities to keep us honest! If you can't find a niche here...you aren't trying. Welcome home all!
