Hey buggawugga, sorry to hear you've been through a lot of grief. But who have you been kissing, huh? AFM has a bad cough, too... ;) (gasp!)

Hi erc, is it getting warmer in Chicago?

I wanted to ask my fellow threadies if there are phrases in your other language that don't translate well into English but communicate a really deep or cool concept?

One phrase in Tagalog that translates well is
"Sala sa init, sala sa lamig."
The English version is
"Damned if you do, damned if you don't."

A phrase that doesn't translate well is
"Nag-tetengang kawali."
Literally, it means "Having the ears of a wok."
But it means "pretending not to hear" and usually applies to hints for money or help or some other favor.

Have a good Monday, everyone!

there are many phrases that don't translate well.... for some silly reason I know more Cantonese phrases than Mandarin although I speak the latter much better... 2 that quickly come to mind...

Gusty always accuses me of being "Hao Sui Duo Guo Cha" literally "Saliva(Mouth Water) is Greater than Tea".... i.e. every talkative...verbose... - no... I don't drool

another has to do with my biz as a recruiter.... "Kei Ngau Wan Ma" which means "riding cow asking for horse" i.e. looking for a horse while riding a cow.... or "the grass is greener on the other side" but more like describing job hopping....

I heard my name being called. How's all the Lit Asians doing.

The WHO lifted their travel advisory for Toronto last week and just recently have announced that we've contained the SARS outbreaks. Woohoo, now our fair city is trying to get the word out that Toronto is a great place to visit.

Hi everyone--been a short while since I've posted here.

SW, maybe the Toronto tourism office will have more luck attracting visitors if they use your AV in an ad campaign?

:D

About time you lot came back!

I always say "Mm Si fa, luk si bin" in reference to the fickle nature of women's wants.......translated literally it means "Want flowers at five(time), and change them at six"

Ahh, the threadies touch base!

Hong, perhaps Cantonese as a less formal language lends itself to quick expression of complex ideas. I love the riding a cow wants a horse!

SW, Singapore is clearing up from Sars, too. No new cases in the last few days. Keeping fingers crossed for everyone.

AFM, how's da cough?

RH, any Japanese phrases for us?

Where's bugga?

Hee (still perving)

I guess the understated smile rules over any rippling physique.

(You're pretty hot, young uh man!)

AFM: wai leng ji, fi dee post doh dee picture lah!

that's chinglish for "hey sexy, hurry and post more pictures lah!" in case you couldn't figure that out lol

well, i am feeling phenomenally better, especially since SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!!! well, until next week when summer courses start of course.

Toronto lowered their gas prices to 49.9 cents/L this weekend in an attempt to bring more business and encourage spending within the city. Unfortunately, this coincided with the beginning of summer road repair and two of the major routes in were closed off!

Hello SxDx, it is a requirement of the thread that you post nude pics of yourself... haha
welcome : )

Gusty: you are too cute, why do you have to type hello to hong? i do that to my lam pun yow when he is spending too much time looking at pr0n on the computer next to me. i send him an icq telling him he is a ham sup low!

Hi Shingen,

This is the first time I've seen you post on the thread. Welcome, and I hope you come back. I'd wondered (having posted on your art thread) if you were Japanese or Asian, based on your Lit name.

Welcome SxDx. I do believe you are the first threadie of Korean extract!

bugga, you MUST be better now. Your sense of humor seems quite healthy. I'm glad the Sars scare has toned down a little in Toronto.

It is a hot, bright sunny day here. :)

Hey Gusty Wind!

hey just found the thread, im a 22 year old jap living in surf city CA, whats up to all out there

Hi amon :)

RomanHans is half-Japanese. Welcome to the thread! We are spread all over the world--London, Ontario, Beijing, Singapore, Chicago...hmm, where else...

Tell us more about yourself.

Mia

Morning all!

Quick post before I go to work....welcome to the newbies, lets have some more ethnic diversity here ;)

Good idea, AFM. Since there are a number of Chinese here already and you're one of the oldest Lit residents on the thread, I suggest you switch over to Filipino...so I can have a kabayan.

:D

tell me more about me, well, i work for a computer office and enjoy relxin on my patio listening to music. that is all unless you had something in mind you wanted to ask me.

That nick sure is a mouthful...

So SxDx...what brings you to lit? Give us the usual intro please :)
