A fan of the culture

Greetings and salutaions!
great thread you have going here, keep it going. (*ahem* BUMP)

There's something about asian women that I can't resist.... they have a power over me I can't deny. =)

Hi all,
What a change of temperature yesterday from today. It was about 20C yesterday afternoon and about 3C tonight. Hope your week would be better ASM

For the bubor ayer hitam, it is called Oh-Chu-Bee in Hokkien. It is actually availabld in US here. There is a restaurant called Penang, a chain restaurant available in new york, atlanta, chicago and houston.
Roti Planta actually is an adapted indian food, adapted from roti canai, which is called cennar in India (I might spell wrong, but that is how they pronounce it). the regular roti canai is using coconut oil, while roti planta is using the margerine of that brand instead. My fav would be the roti sardin, which has tomato pasted sardine insert.
Hmmm I know once the discussion about food started among Asians started, it is hard to stop :).

yes.... I am an ang mo gwai.....

oh boy, I can see the sign on that restaurant... ji xin, ji zen, ji ci.... mmmmm you gotta try those in BBQ

:rose:

Hello Tanger, welcome to the thread and to Literotica :)

Hey erc, that was cold! Brrrr! You need some teh aliyah to warm you up and keep your tonsils healthy, yeah?

Hong, I had *no* idea you are an ang mo!

:D

I like roti prata even just plain. We sometimes buy it frozen from the supermarket and bake it in the oven (avoiding oil) and it's pretty good. I think murtabak is also from southern India. There used to be a roti prata stall along Tanglin Road here in a hawkers' food centre where people would LINE UP 20 deep on Sunday mornings. The whole place has been torn down and something new, modern and expensive is being built. (sigh)

After all the Asian food talk...I'm going to make spaghetti and salad for dinner!

Hey AFM, what's for dinner at your house?

I swear I mentioned Roti Pisang on the last page.....I guess no one reads my posts eh :(

Today is just as stressful as yesterday....some major problems that need to be sorted out

I tried the ji ci... (chicken wings) and they were excellent... as well as the tendons which were tough as hell.... here is the whole sign of the restaurant...

I actually posted quite a few pics of the food on Gusty's Asian Thread thread here....

and Mercy... you know I am a foreign devil  , a true "egg"

AFM, I do hope things get smoother for you.......

Lets hope things are better tomorrow.....it has been a stressfull couple of days...

Normal service shall be resumed shortly :D

seems like that time of year for people all over the world, AFM.
*rubs your shoulders*

one day at a time, that's what people keep telling me and i'm still here so it's good advice : )

Hello all,
AFM hope your day is getting better. But once in a while we may feel down. Look at the bright side, it is spring time :)

Hong thanks for making me hungry all night long lol.... what is la tiao zi ? it was shown on the top of the sign there.

It's a type of northern noodle cut into square shapes with a tomato like sauce... very nice and filing, but at this restaurant a little bland. I think a nice bowl of Chao Zhou style rice noodles with some yu dan (fish balls) sounds much better right now....

Food again...mmm... :)

It's another one of those hot slap-you-in-the-face-with humidity days here. As long as you're braced for it when you step outdoors, you'll be fine.

erc2, you know, I believe I ate at a Penang restaurant in Bethesday once--the cuisine is sort of Chinese, Malay, Peranakan, Indonesian, right?

How's everybody holding out? bugga, are you close to summer vaca yet?

:rose: for each threadie :)

Had preserved egg and stringy pork congee today....nice :)

Was playing Initial D 2 for an hour this afternoon, for those who don't know it's a racing game! Everyone in the games arcade was chinese/asian......I know gaming is a big thing in our culture but I'm sure most of you old farts think its for kids :D

Old farts? Is that as opposed to new farts?

We should consult with Gusty, the poo poo head expert, to find out which are more smelly.

Hey AFM, you seem a tad more chipper today. Keep eating that congee--seems to do you a world of good :)

Hey... this ole fart has been playing computer games since the Apple II came out in 1981.... and has been playing about 4 hours of DiabloII a night for the past 2 weeks!!!!!....... good to see you chipper again AFM....

hong, since you're young at heart take a trip down to your local arcade and have a bash at initial D ;)

wow.... haven't been to an arcade for years. There aren't much in US and I can't stand the cigarettes smells in Asian arcade.
Although I am still a computer games fanatic... I must had spent 5-6 months of my life just in one game (civilization 2) alone. Now I am spending more of my life in civilization 3 :).

Mia, I am not sure if penang restaurant has a branch in Bethesta, but I am not surprised if they have. Yes it is Malaysian chinese type of cuisine, having chinese, indian, malay and thai ingredients in it. I used to go to its main store in Flushing, NY every weekend. Love their nasi pulut hitam (oh- chu -bee).

Hong, I had played games on Apple II since 1984.... does that mean I am part of the old fart too ? :D
