Kennah was a beauty and well behaved drake. Fiona had a special spot in her heart for Roman though. He was slow, but he perked up when he saw her and Kennah. She laughed as he rumbled and purred, hugging her close as she went to let him out of his shed.

"Hello, beastie." Fiona said as she hugged him tightly. "I missed you."

Roman's leg was still wrapped up tightly in bandages and he favored it noticeably, but it didn't stop him from walking even if somewhat limpingly. Sam fetched the saddle and brought it to them with Roman's blanket and the strange bridle David had made based on Roman's old gear.

Fiona helped to get Roman saddled. He was patient as they got the saddle buckled and soon she was on his back, strapping herself into the special harness that had been made.

"Alright, beastie. Take us to Invah." She said as she gave him a flick of her reigns.

Roman led the way, Kennah right behind to follow his pace. It took a while longer than usual, but he soon arrived at the loch and sat down immediately after Fiona slid from his saddle.

Invah rose from the water and came to greet them. "I was starting to get worried, little one."

"I know. I'm sorry." Fiona said as Invah appeared out of the water, telling her that she had been worried. "I had to go see Sam first."

She glanced over her shoulder at Sam as he got Kennah settled next to Roman. Her drake was exhausted from the trip, resting his injured leg as he rumbled at Kennah. It seemed that Roman had a sweet spot for females.

"I got a pardon." She said with a small smile on her lips as she showed Invah her piece of paper. "A small fine. And Will is now my responsibility legally."

Invah drew Fiona close, hugging her against her cheek. "That's certainly a relief..." She sighed and looked to Sam. "And what brings you, Samuel?"

"I thought I ought to enjoy the day and follow Fiona," Sam said with a small smile.

"He was willing to break the law for me." Fiona said with a soft laugh as Sam gave Invah a rare smile. "He would have stolen me away to Scandinavia if Taqu'un had put m in prison. He is definitely proving to be a romantic."

"I wouldn't want to encourage lawbreaking, but good man," Invah nodded, laying down on the shore with her tail lazily curling and uncurling at the tip. "Have you talked to him about your plans for your journey?"

"I mentioned that he might want to come over if he had the time." Fiona said as she sat down in the grass beside Invah, leaning back against her shoulder with an ease that she didn't seem to have with anyone else. "We can start with your mate and then find my family. That's really all that I have planned."

"Well, you're welcome to come, Samuel. I can easily carry both of you. And it won't take any longer than two days' flight if the weather holds."

Sam seemed a little startled by that notion, but he tried to hide it. For all the things he faced fearlessly, the idea of such height was secretly terrifying.

Fiona saw the slight change come over Sam as Invah suggested that she could take them both easily. She wasn't aware that Sam was that frightened by the idea of flying with a dragon. Invah wouldn't have allowed either of them to be harmed in any way.

"I don't know if he has the time, Invah." Fiona commented, glancing at the dragon. "He has duties here in Inverness to tend to."

"It's up to him," Invah insisted when Sam didn't add anything. She knew the look of trepidation, so she pulled him close too, hugging him gently against her shoulder. They'd formed a quiet bond of their own after Invah had picked Sam up from the battlefield with the Greeks and carried him as fast as she could to Valentina.

"Invah..." Fiona said softly as she hugged Sam close against her shoulder, Fiona blushing slightly as if Sam were meeting her mother. "I know it's up to him...but he has duties. He can't just run off to Scandinavia with us on a whim."

"He can decide for himself," Invah repeated, letting Sam take a seat beside her.

"I won' make promises... But I do want t'go," Sam told them.

"See." Fiona said, glancing at Sam as he said that he couldn't make promises but he wanted to go. "He can always comes after we go. There's no rush, is there? You want time with your family and I am in no hurry to get back. The MacNamaras will watch Will and make sure that he stays out of trouble and is well fed."

"You act as if I'm trying to push and rush everybody, little one. I have all the time in the world. I'm only reassuring him that he's welcome," Invah gave her a smile, patient and calm as ever.

Fiona still felt nervous and anxious with this new and budding relationship. She felt rushed, even though Sam had been nothing but a gentleman to her. Perhaps she wanted to make up for lost time and all of the years that she hadn't had a family.

"Sorry." Fiona murmured softly, glancing at Invah as she smiled down at her with the look of a dragon that had endless patience. "This is all new to me."

Fiona hugged Invah tightly as she told her to relax. It was so hard to relax, even though she had been given the papers that set her free. She wondered for a moment what Sam thought of her relationship with Invah and the strange way that the dragon had adopted her. It didn't matter to Fiona in the least. The dragon was her mother now. She gave her the sage advice that any parent would to a child and Fiona loved Invah greatly.

Sam smiled ever so slightly at the scene, remaining quiet as Invah hugged Fiona in return. One of her great hands was large enough to cradle Fiona close like an infant, though even smaller compared to her than a baby to its mother.

"You should come for dinner tomorrow night, Invah. Will and I can cook some pigs from the market. Enough for a dragon and humans to eat." Fiona murmured as Invah hugged her tightly. "I'll make a few pies. Will has learned how to bake bread from Aleister. We'll make a feast to celebrate."

"If you're going to get all that food, let me help you cook," Invah insisted. "You just come get me when you need me."

Fiona pulled back and looked at Invah, laughing softly as she suggested that she would help with the cooking. "I'm not sure that blasting it with fire is really what we're going for."

It felt good to laugh. She didn't do enough laughing in her life and certainly not enough since her grandfather had died. It was good to be around people who loved her like Invah and people who had the potential to love her like Sam.

"Dragonfire is more than a destructive weapon, little one," Invah assured her with a smile. "I used to cook pigs and cattle for a whole village near my old home during festivals."

"Well, if Sam would allow it. We wouldn't want to break the law." Fiona said, glancing over at Sam with a smile on her lips. "We could bring the food out here to the loch for our feast. Of course, it wouldn't be as large as the one that the Ghis host."
