Collision At Sea

All the technology in the world cannot anticipate all human error...

;) ;)

Like the self-driving car that's not aware that its stupid human lashed a ladder to its roof.

Although the media portrayed the collision as the US Navy's fault, if you see where the US Naval ship was hit you will conclude the freighter's navigator is to blame.

How can you possibly come to that conclusion? A destroyer hit in that side by a large container ship had to be the give-way vessel by all maritime rules, even if the container ship was somewhere it shouldn't have been. A container ship cannot make a sudden course change.

It's possible that we might later learn something bizarre, but for now, a lighter, faster more maneuverable vessel with advanced radars and its green light toward the oncoming vessel should have turned left a mile before the collision, or better yet, right 2 miles before the collision.

But he has said something via Tweet and before Sean posted.

Hate makes you stupid.

Should we be content if the standard presidential response to an event of national concern is conveyed in 140 characters or less? Tweeting just doesn't convey the same sense of solemnity, and Trump does himself and us a disservice by relying on it so heavily.

But in fairness to Trump, tweeting a rote "thoughts 'n prayers" allows moar time for him to work on his golf game.

Actual White House statements and press releases are reserved for accidents and incidents that can further Trump's policies.

Did the world come to a dead standstill with every military death due to accident and await the immediate pronouncement of any other President or is this just more Trump Derangement Syndrome?

More simply, there is nothing he can get right.

If he would have ran right out, stopped the presses and took over the airways, would the charge have been that he was trying to capitalize on a tragedy and the deaths of the military which his belligerent speech caused?

I think my comment when I posted his tweet said it all. Maybe the sarcasm was lost.
What I didn't do is point out the obvious, it wasn't even sent from his POTUS account. So, according to Trump, at least up to that point, the President of the US hadn't even acknowledged the loss of life.
(His position is that tweets from his personal account aren't official statements)

Oh, I completely agree with your analysis. My remarks you quoted were more directed towards 4est.

Already having eclipsed 300 rounds of golf while in office, Obama decided that his last 3 months in office would be no different than his previous 7 plus years.

As America plummets into the abyss of social divide, corruption and violence, Obama plays the most elitist sport on the planet, refusing to pay attention to the latest fatal police shooting of an armed Black man, which resulted in mob violence in Milwaukee over the weekend.

The violent rioting left four police officers wounded and prompted Governor Scott Walker to call in the National Guard.

Obama did not take a break from his rounds of golf with Alonzo Mourning, Mercer Cook III and Cy Walker to issue a statement. Perhaps no teleprompter could be set up at Martha’s Vineyard where he is taking his annual two-week summer vacation.

Now that the flood waters ravaging Louisiana are receding, it's time for President Barack Obama to visit the most anguished state in the union.

Last week, as torrential rains brought death, destruction and misery to Louisiana, the president continued his vacation at Martha’s Vineyard, a playground for the posh and well-connected.

And if the president can interrupt his vacation for a swanky fundraiser for fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton, as he did on Monday, then surely he can make time to show up for a catastrophe that’s displaced thousands.
Our Views: Vacation or not, a hurting Louisiana needs you now, President Obama

^^^ Daily reminder why we have President Trump & not President Clinton.

The root of the problem herein is the continuing heavy reliance upon technology. Basic self-reliance and being alert is slowly going out the window in training. Like, relying on GPS in a cell phone or ships navigation systems in it's onboard navigation, yet not knowing how to read signs or remember basic driving skills. A computer or phone stops, it's like 'Gee, what will we do now?" No basic quartermaster skills w/out technology? No binoculars used for surface navigation as a backup? General alarms warning of crash being imminent?

And what was that stuff I read in the article about a fundraiser to replace lost personal items? WTF are these sailors carrying on ships these days outside of seabags and whatever their bunks can hold?

I don't know the specifics of the Fitgerald incident, but something isn't right that goes beyond what is being told.

You must have voted for trump "not my fault"

First off according to reports both ships were running parallel then the freighter made a turn which placed the US destroyer in its path.

Secondly you could not have paid me enough to vote for Trump.

It is so sad that the Left is so fixated on the butt hurt of the election every single issue has to boil down to

Seriously? Are you for real? You're going to whine about how much golf Obama played?
So far, in the same time period, Trump has played over three times as much golf as Obama.

Your failure to acknowledge the Milwaukee riots and Louisiana flooding is reprehensible.
