Comments That Make Your Day

A nice one this morning on Also-Ran:

Probably my 3rd read. One of the most clever stories on the site with real discussion of mental anguish. It’s good. It’s real good. And the whole X-Men angle… damn even the personalities line up. Masterful. Of course 5 stars and has been in My Favorites for awhile.

On my story A Week of Sunrises:

Way way way way way too long winded

There are way too many 'ways' in there, by the way.

Oh, wait... it wasn't that comment that made my day, but this one:

Nice work establishing a relationship first and then building up to intimacy.

This second one made my day because it came immediately on the heels of the first one. Both arrived in the same hour, between 10 and 11AM this morning.

I can't prove it, but I have the distinct impression the Second Commenter left his comment as a direct rebuttal to First Commenter.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I've been M.I.A for the last 5 months. I'm pleased to see this thread still going strong.
Early Nov/24, I went to bed feeling fine. I woke up a day later in the hospital, completely paralyzed.
I couldn't move, I couldn't speak. It's been a long road getting back. Fortunately, I wrote so much during Covid,
I had stories just waiting to be posted. There's been comments during that period, but I'm gong to ignore them.
The last couple of days brought these.

One on Buckshot Ranch:
" just the perfect mixture pure magic. only happens rarely"

one email on The Lawyer:

Comments:

"Well the best compliment I can give you is that I spent my entire workday reading your stories! This is one of, if not the best stories Ive read and I loved imagining my wife as the character. I dont know when Ive come that close to finishing without touching myself

I think there's a moderation queue for comments, so sometimes they arrive in close succession. But absolutely it's good to receive that affirmation that some readers want you to build a relationship, because it turns out that people don't just meet strangers and have sex in the real world.

Mate, I hope that the recovery continues and that that was a complete one off. Sounds pretty horrendous. Good that you're back, but what a shitty experience. You don't have to tell us what it was, but did you get a diagnosis about what happened?

That’s some beautiful writing there, prose that is almost poetry. Well done, once again. A haunting, mesmerizing tale with so many nice little touches. Fantastic job!

I didn't realize there was comment moderation.

This is the first time I've received more than one comment at a time.

So, while you're probably right, I'm sticking to my story!

Only for spam and links off-site, not for the content of the comment itself. The site does purge hate content from comments, but that seems to be on an irregular basis, and not in the first pass.

It's the barista from the coffee place, who's obsessed with Myrna's boobs, which is why he brought the coffee to their table...

this on my (relatively) recently posted Goodbye, My Love. It is a short, sad piece about a man leaving what has been his home for the last 13 years, with the last armful of his possessions from the house. It was wonderful to know that after all these years, I can still write something that communicates the emotions I wish to communicate.

Thanks for the comment. No, it won't be a one-off. Looking at the averages, it could be fatal tomorrow or sometime in the next three years. I'm thankful for the years I got to write and enjoy the reader's comments and support.

On that note two new comments last night:

I’ve gotten several nice comments in the last week. When I first started, I would have killed for ANY comments. Now I get 15-20 a week and I’m grumpy it’s not more, when I have new stuff out. I am a spoilt little bunny.
But I got two this week that really stand out.
