Comments That Make Your Day

A nice one this morning on Also-Ran:

Probably my 3rd read. One of the most clever stories on the site with real discussion of mental anguish. It’s good. It’s real good. And the whole X-Men angle… damn even the personalities line up. Masterful. Of course 5 stars and has been in My Favorites for awhile.

@strawboy has been working through all my stories over the last two weeks, and finished up with this lovely comment on "Map of Tasmania":

A very nice buildup to the relationship. I have finished your writings with your first story. You started with a well written story and maintained enjoyable character and plot line development throughout. Here's hoping to more being posted and soon!

I actually have something to contribute to the thread!

On my story A Week of Sunrises:
Way way way way way too long winded
There are way too many 'ways' in there, by the way.

Oh, wait... it wasn't that comment that made my day, but this one:
Nice work establishing a relationship first and then building up to intimacy.

This second one made my day because it came immediately on the heels of the first one. Both arrived in the same hour, between 10 and 11AM this morning.

I can't prove it, but I have the distinct impression the Second Commenter left his comment as a direct rebuttal to First Commenter.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I've been M.I.A for the last 5 months. I'm pleased to see this thread still going strong.
Early Nov/24, I went to bed feeling fine. I woke up a day later in the hospital, completely paralyzed.
I couldn't move, I couldn't speak. It's been a long road getting back. Fortunately, I wrote so much during Covid,
I had stories just waiting to be posted. There's been comments during that period, but I'm gong to ignore them.
The last couple of days brought these.

One on Buckshot Ranch:
" just the perfect mixture pure magic. only happens rarely"

one email on The Lawyer:
Title:

Perfection

Comments:

"Well the best compliment I can give you is that I spent my entire workday reading your stories! This is one of, if not the best stories Ive read and I loved imagining my wife as the character. I dont know when Ive come that close to finishing without touching myself😆
Keep up the good work and thank you."

I think there's a moderation queue for comments, so sometimes they arrive in close succession. But absolutely it's good to receive that affirmation that some readers want you to build a relationship, because it turns out that people don't just meet strangers and have sex in the real world.

Mate, I hope that the recovery continues and that that was a complete one off. Sounds pretty horrendous. Good that you're back, but what a shitty experience. You don't have to tell us what it was, but did you get a diagnosis about what happened?

@Eosphorus read Upstream and enjoyed it:
“Her voice was sunlight reflected in the stream rushing over rocks. It was the gentle breeze that blew ripples across the surface of the pool. It was the warm water on top of the cooler water beneath.”

That’s some beautiful writing there, prose that is almost poetry. Well done, once again. A haunting, mesmerizing tale with so many nice little touches. Fantastic job!
Thank you for reading and commenting!

I have a new story up, and @Bazzle has already left this comment:
Oh. My. God.

What a story. What a delightful romp.

Wow. Enjoyed that. I was half expecting Daz to burst into a tune. I was scouring the words for song lyrics, I probably missed them.

Amazing.
No lyrics, I'm afraid. Just a hot redhead.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

I didn't realize there was comment moderation.

This is the first time I've received more than one comment at a time.

So, while you're probably right, I'm sticking to my story!

@ShelbyDawn57 has a suggestion for my new story, "Red Hot":
Nicely done. I can imagine a parallel story from the point of view of the guy watching them on th park bench...
It's the barista from the coffee place, who's obsessed with Myrna's boobs, which is why he brought the coffee to their table...

Thanks for reading and commenting!

I''m not crying; it surely must be allergies.

this on my (relatively) recently posted Goodbye, My Love. It is a short, sad piece about a man leaving what has been his home for the last 13 years, with the last armful of his possessions from the house. It was wonderful to know that after all these years, I can still write something that communicates the emotions I wish to communicate.

Thanks for the comment. No, it won't be a one-off. Looking at the averages, it could be fatal tomorrow or sometime in the next three years. I'm thankful for the years I got to write and enjoy the reader's comments and support.

On that note two new comments last night:

Following Laura's Footsteps:

"t reminded me of Charles Dickens tale A Christmas Carol and Scrooge."

This Dickens comparison is a constant comment. I never wrote it with that in mind, but when I was editing, I realized how similar the stories were."

Homeless:

"Great story"

I’ve gotten several nice comments in the last week. When I first started, I would have killed for ANY comments. Now I get 15-20 a week and I’m grumpy it’s not more, when I have new stuff out. I am a spoilt little bunny.
But I got two this week that really stand out.

Nothing better than knowing you wrote something that people go back and read again.

Every time you post a story, it's like my birthday.

Thanks for the presents.
Squee...

More 'gave me a giggle' than 'made my day', but close enough. The comment is from (another) Anon, on the same Loving Wives story as the Stacnash review quoted in my signature below. I suspect it's being used as a bit of a shot at her really - the story is not THAT good, but I'll take it. :)

"This is one of the best written tales I have read. Grammar, use of the language and word selection is one of the best, by far. Punctuation, as well. None of the flubs and failures we see on here so often... Well worthy for five stars.
JPB NOT BOB"

I'm sure it's a lovely story, but this comment gives me a similar vibe to someone reviewing a movie and giving it 10/10 because "Dialogue is generally understandable" and "Actors are clearly visible".

Your writing accuracy is amazing. You write the spicy scenes right when you need a small break from world events and you make them long enough to enjoy but short enough the reader does not want to skip over it. Your world building and event creation is so detailed. If you ever publish to a physical book ( You should) I will be first in line to get a copy

I have to admit, this one made my month. Real life has started beating me down, and I was considering another extended break from writing. But, for me, it's things like this that validate the effort.
