Ezmirylda

Ezmi heard someone approaching as she took a calming breath and touched her cheek lightly to cool the sting from her cheek. She turned to see Cassandra, and conjured a graceful smile to her lips as she dropped her hand to her side.

"And I am Ezmirylda Corvaran, you may call me Ezmi if you like. Friends, I'd like that, very much, thank you for the offer Cassandra. I know I may have come across rather terse inside, but I like to think I am a fairly easy going soul. I will do my best to see that we all make it through this mission. And perhaps this one won't be the last we could all share... I really appreciate you comming out here and introducing yourself, it helps to put one's mind at ease to know at least one of our party is polite enough to do so. It seems such manners has somehow gone out of style with most people these days." Ezmi said as she reguarded Cassandra with a greatful smile and a tilt of her head so that her hair streamed over her shoulders. She extended her hand to Cassandra then, to offer her friendship in return.

Leanna blinked as the older woman's voice spoke to her, seemingly out of no where. Still, she supposed she should have expected as much from the chosen representative of the Guild.

Her ice-blue eyes met the witch's in a fierce stare, wondering whom the cruel Master the hag warned of was. Still, Leanna supposed she would find out... in time. Though, she supposed that it made sense the Guild would have taken into account the notorious curiousity of those dedicated to the Art and warded the scroll against primitive intrusions. It might be for the best for her to avoid tempting fate... for the nonce.

Instead, Leanna sniffed and smoothed her dark dress over her slender curves, turning and padding out of the shop, where the other two women waited, exchanging pleasantries and seeming to bond. Leanna watched them from the step for a moment, but made no move to join them in their camraderie.

She padded down into the street, the leather boots she'd been assigned swinging from her hand as she walked. "Very well, then. Shall we get underway? The sooner we begin, the sooner this ... trip... will be over with."

Without waiting for an answer or to see if the others would follow, Leanna began to stalk off towards the city gates.

IC: I turned to my employer. "Well I suppose I will see you in ten days or less. Good bye." I stepped out the door to see the three girls walking ahead of me.

"I take it were under way?" I jogged a bit to catch up with the tale end. It doesn't look like any of them are going to be putting on armor, that means the combat is up to me I suppose. Our employer mentioned the mages guild, I wonder which among them is the mage.

Ezmirylda

"Well, it looks as though we best be on our way, Cassandra, else those two are bound to run afoul of... Something..." Ezmi sighed as she stepped away from the elder woman's threshold and along after the other two.

The old woman escorts you out the door, and you move once again into the street. The closer you get to the gate, the busier the streets around you start to get. The avenue from the gate is lined with stores and trees. Wagons of goods are making their way along the road and you can hear hawkers at small stands selling everything from food to wooden statuettes. You see one cart with a sign proclaiming protective amulets. Several guards are in the process of taking down the sign. Clearly, the merchant was trying to pass off fake magic.

As you approach the huge gate, you see a troop of guards searching the incoming travelers and wagons, quickly and moderately efficiently. You see an elven man talking with one of the guards. As you come near, you hear him saying something about "Adaran", your destination.

Seeing the hubbub, Leanna decides that this is a good time to pause and put on her boots, before the guards search her.

She kneels to pull off her own shoes and slip into the slightly uncomfortable boots. As she does, she hears a nearby elf mention the name "Adaran".

Leanna looks up, trying to listen closely, but without attracting notice, wondering what is going on.

The boots do nothing special. A man walking along behind you grumbles and walks around you as you stop to put them on.

OOC: If you want to hear more without getting closer, you'll have to make a listen check (1d20+Wis modifier, if you don't have ranks). In fact, in general, please make a check whenever you're trying to do something checkworthy. (i.e. something at which you might not automatically succeed)

IC: I nodded thanking the man for the directions and the information. I said "diolle" and moved away. I wasn't sure if I should travel alone, but I was pretty sure that I wouldn't have too much trouble. After all the last band of people were not able to steal my longswords. I did however have a mission. I scanned the crowd absentmindedly and ____ (dunno what i see).

OOC: if she tries to come up I roll a sense motive check or would it be a spot? either way the roll is 18, 24 total (+4 wis mod, +2 elf), I guess that would be a spot to notice, and then the roll to sense motive would be 15, 19 total (+4 wis mod) to see what she/whoever I notice wants wants.

Drec

OOC: Refresh my memory on skill checks 20 succeeds and 1 fails regardless, or is that just attascks?

IC: I tapped my foot impatiently while the young girl put on her shoes. I suppose I was rushed for one of three reasons. First the other girls had there shoes on already. Secondly, we had a deadline. And I supose the third possability is that I'm not carring any item related to the task and was eccentialy the only on not pulling any weight.

"If we do another job as a group leaveme some work to do."

OOC: Natural (unmodified) 20 counts as 30. Natural 1 counts as -10. This is my system. As for seeing the party, Donsehan, there is no need to make a spot check, as they aren't making any particular attempt to hide.

IC: You see a group of people, three women and a man. One of the women stops to put on a pair of riding boots and the man looks vaguely impatient. As she rises, the woman glances casually in your direction.

OOC: Your sense motive will be opposed by Leanna's bluff check, if she should choose to conceal her interest further. As for Drec: cats, the old woman pulled out 3 pairs of boots and a *scabbard*. That was for you.

IC: As Drec is thinking this, the old crone appears suddenly by his side. "You forgot this, you big lump." she grouses, handing him the scabbard. "You wouldn't want to be walking around with an unsheathed sword, would you?" With that, she blends seamlessly back into the crowd and vanishes.

Ezmirylda

Ezmi stops as Leanna puts on her boots and a man passes by, grumbling. She perks her ears to hear his words, as he walks away. (18)

OOC: Som how I thought the scabard was part of a shoe. Silly oversight.

IC: "Oh damn I feel stupid." I considered my actions briefly. I went over to the gentlemen mubleing to imself. "Mind holding this for a second." With ou waiting for a reply I placed the sword in his hand and undid my belt. I fasened the scabard to it and redid it. I reached out for my sword. "Thanks man."

(Listen check: 9... :( )

Leanna stood, straightening up. The man she was trying to listen in on seemed to have notice her attention. Reflexively, Leanna tried to cover her interest, looking away with feigned disinterest. (Bluff check: 13).

She gave a small hiss of annoyance as the party's muscle... Was his name Drec?... all of a sudden wandered over to the man she was trying to discretely investigate, drawing his sword... and handing it over to the man!

Leanna was a bit stunned and alarmed. She wondered what sort of bodyguard the Guild had hired for them on their journey. She looked back at the red haired woman, Ezmi, raising an eyebrow, wondering if the other woman was seeing what she was.

Ezmirylda

"Uh... Drec, ya big lug, if I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times, its not very manly to let another man touch your sword, if you know what I mean. Excuse the big hunk of muscle here, good sir, he's a bit a few pints short of a full lantern... Hi, my name is Ezmirylda, and these are my party members, Cassandra, the other red head, Drec, whom you've met, and... Im sorry, but I never caught your name. We're newly brought together you see. Heh. Heheheh... Eh..." Ezmi called out as she approached, doing her best to minister damage control on the caravan-wreck of a social encounter that had so suddenly sprung up before her.

Moving forward behind the other woman, Ezmirylda, Leanna nodded coolly to the man they had just encountered. "Leanna," she introduced herself distantly.

Seeing that Ezmirylda seemed comfortable trying to smooth things over with the man, Leanna decided to allow the other woman to attempt her diplomatic efforts unhindered.

Stepping back slightly, Leanna looked away aloofly, seeming to pay little attention to the conversation.

Healer ?

Are you still looking for a healer? Male/Human - Priest class. I assume? I know you are full, but if you need a healer I can recommend one. - jerlon

Ezmi: You heard the man who was mumbling to himself quite clearly. He was grumbling: "Stupid people stopping in the middle of the road. No bloody concern for other folks."

Leanna: You could hear enough of the conversation to piece out that the man is travelling to Adaran (you couldn't quite make out why) and is concerned about being alone on the road, particularly at night.

OOC: Sorry jerlon, that post is filled. Donsehan is playing it. However, if at some later point someone stops playing, I can PM you.

Ezmirylda

"Ah yes, Leanna, she doesn't say much, but she's really a sweet heart. Really. And now that we have introduced ourselves to you, good sir, would you be so kind as to share your name with us? I believe I heard you mention something about Adaran, my companions must have as well, which would just so happen to be why we took such innordinate interest in you. You see, it would seem we too have buisness that way as well." Ezmi said, finishing in a hushed tone so that only their small circle could hear her mention of their destination. Perhaps we could travel together, I don't know what you might have to offer, but we have a fairly varied pool of skills and talents just among us four, that im sure would do you some good. What do you say?" Ezmi said, barely giving the man room to speak edge wise until she finally finished. Inside she wondered what in the hell she was doing, inviting yet another man into their party, but in the end she reasoned that he looked a capable sort. As long as he could keep his hands to himself, that is.

L'amruil Amalith: I looked up at the man I was surprised I didn't say anything. I noticed he was with the woman who was paying attention to me. I shifted in my chain shirt. My large green eyes paying careful attention to the man. I blinked as one of the women approached me. I turned to her, shifting the sword while he was at work doing what he needed. My clothes green, a wooden pendant dangling from my neck. I glanced at individuals as the lady introduced them, and nodded back at the woman named Leanna.

I listened to her talk, I was taught common when I was younger, but by Corellon, I didn't think I'd actually use it. I never paid attention in class, and now I had to understand it. I paused for a few moments, trying to figure out everything she said. Then I spoke, saying "Ami- " then stopped myself. I paused for a moment while I thought of the words "I am L'amruil Amalith" I said my common heavily accented with the musical tones of my language. I thought about what she said and swept my cloak back, showing that to my belt hung two longswords, one on each side of my hips. I then let my cloak rest back in it's normal position, covering most of what was seen. I then said "I . . . have a " and by the Seldarine I couldn't think of it. Suddenly I remembered what it was, I picked up my pendant showing it to her "priest! I am a priest!" I said quickly and softly. I didn't think I'd run into people, then again they were also humans always funny creatures, or so they said. I wasn't about to make a judgment on that yet. Although I knew I must have looked odd, in green clothing, a chain shirt, and a pair of long swords hanging off my belt. Not to mention the backpack and quiver I had.

Drec

IC: Wait other man with my sword? I took my sword back. "Ezmi, are you calling me gay? Cause I none of the sort. Why I was with a woman just the other day... At least I think it was a woman. I had a bit to much to drink that night... It had tits, so it must of been a woman. Or maybe a fat man, but no I am pretty sure it was a woman..."

An eerie silence came about. "Well if it was a man, it'd be the first time. And besides he was acting like a woman that night." I looked around at the others and random onlookers from the street. "Damn it I ain't gay!"

Ezmirylda

"Well L'am ruil Ama lith..." Ezmi said, being overly careful to pronounce his name as he had, so as not to butcher it. It was a great insult to an elf to misspronounce their name, or so she had heard. "It would appear that you weild steel, you'd make a good compliment to Drec's 'beat them till they don move no more' style of combat, as I suspect you might have the skill to wield two blades at once? And a priest to boot, I forsee we will have GREAT need of you as well." She said as she gave the rest of her party a quick, teasing glance. "If its not too personal a question though, might I ask what god you worship? There ARE a number of them, and not all are what you could call wholesome." All the while, she had to stifle a laugh over what Drec had just said.

Cassandra walked slowly with her companions towards the gate. She was surprised to see more and more people as they neared the gate. The town was very busy with a fine choice of shops and wares being hawked. She hoped they would have any time slipping past the guards. In the back of her mind, she wondered about the strange gifts of the 3 pairs of boots.

A sword to a man made sense.... But if he's a cleric... A holy man... or unholy man.... hmmm..... Where I'm from... clerics are prone to staffs and maces.... hmmm.... I'm not familiar with his order .. I should find out more... Cassandra thought.

Drec went on and on about being with a man and pretending he wasn't gay. Cassandra didn't care either way. For the right amount of gold, she decided she could test the point but refrained from making the offer.

Better they not realize the true demon within me Cassandra thought as she smiled at Drec. She feigned polite curiosity to the truth of his statements.

She listened as Ezmi spoke to another:

"Well L'am ruil Ama lith..." It would appear that you wield steel, you'd make a good compliment to Drec's 'beat them till they don move no more' style of combat, as I suspect you might have the skill to wield two blades at once? And a priest to boot, I forsee we will have GREAT need of you as well."

Men and their fascination for blades... Crude objects.... Brute force.... Cassandra thought to herself as she looked at the man whom Ezmi seemed to praise. Though he announced himself to be a priest he carried two swords, and was dressed in what looked like fine chain mail. This raised more suspicion in Cassandra's mind.

"I am Cassandra" Cassandra introduced herself to the man claiming to be a priest yet dressed in green cloth and a fine chain mail shirt. She didn't dare risk repeating his name.

Liar.... You are no priest... More likely an agent of a priest or a city guard.. or a spy Cassandra thought to herself as she eyed the man with suspicion. Though she figured he'd a strong protector she preferred magic to brute force. Still two men to carry their packs, and do their bidding.

Cassandra grinned as Ezmi seemed to take delight in taunting the beliefs of the cleric:

"If its not too personal a question though, might I ask what god you worship? There ARE a number of them, and not all are what you could call wholesome."

"I worship no God.... I worship all Gods" Cassandra quickly uttered. In truth, she worshiped magic, and all powerful beings that commanded magic. But to this group of untried companions she risked very little.

Cassandra looked past the group and towards the gate. She was trying to get a feel for the number and types of guardsmen. Though it was normally easier to leave a city than to enter it, she wasn't sure if the guards were on the lookout for the scroll. If they were searched it could be hard to explain and land them all in a dungeon. But the guards seemed intent on searching only those entering the town and so Cassandra moved closer to the gate and readied herself to exit.

As she moved past the guards she made a point of smiling at them as she tried to overhear what they might be saying.

Mentally pondering the situation, she tried to assess the risk versus the gold they were offered. There had to be risks and so she decided to be on the lookout for the unexpected.

Cassandra: You hear very little in the way of conversation among the guards. They mostly seem focused on the incoming traffic searches, but two or three of them seem to be keeping a vague eye on the outgoing traffic. One young man with blonde hair tips his helmet to you in response to your smile. You hear his older companion mumble something about decorum and the young fellow jams his helmet back on and blushes.

L'amruil Amalith: I looked at the man, as he started . . . I guess rambling would have been the way to describe it. It was hard to follow his speech. After he had taken back his sword he just kept going on and on. I had trouble following his speech, and I didn't quite understand why he was making such a big deal of being happy. Why wouldn't anyone want to be happy? Again I thought humans, such odd creatures. I looked to the women.

I shook my head "I'm not a very good warrior, I merely follow the path set out before me, wherever it may take me." Then were asking about the Seldarine. I nodded and wondered how to explain it. I said "I worship all the Seldarine, but I serve the greatest of the Seldarine, Corellon Larethian, the creator of everything that we are. Our arts, magic, war, law, everything that makes us" I paused for a moment trying to think of what they called us. "alfs? I think that's what you call us." I cocked my head to the side while I was thinking. I wasn't sure if that was the right word. So I looked at them to see if their expressions would tell me if I was wrong or not. I didn't even understand their language too well, when I was taught as a sap, they told me that their language didn't have tones. Common was weird. I pointed to my pendant, the design of a tree, framed by a circle around it, "see? this is one of his symbols"
