~Deacon's Fucked up Cancer Thread~

The last six hours were a bitch. The fatigue was off the charts. I could barely walk, but now that its done, I'm bouncing back. I guess the good news is thats the worst it will be. They say the third round tells all, so lets hope.

I started a trend possibly. But I was just wanting you to know that I was thinking about you. It was before coffee so I didn't think growling at you would have been appropriate. Love you though ❤️😘

Thinking about you today Deacon…Sending hugs and prayers for continued healing and comfort:heart::rose:

Just another day getting hooked up to chemo. took a crappy video this time. It was cut short, but at the end she flushed it again and it got good flow. She'd just woke me up (they were running an hour behind so i got some shut eye)

Anyway, nothing special. She's using "Cold spray" to numb the skin so she can put the needle in the port. The white disk you might notice, is a plastic disk that comes prepackaged with anti bacterial cream on it. The needle goes through it, and the cream and the cover bandage keep the area clean and prevent infection.

So thats me getting stuck :)

I removed the video until I can edit out a couple things. I'll add it back later.

May this round go quickly and easily for you.

I still check this thread every time I see it even if I have nothing to say. Inspiration comes from unexpected places and I find it here

I seem to be getting the coldd thing in my mouth, but its very minor. I can still eat my ice a drink cold things, but it does seem much clder than it used to. I may have to stop, but aside from that, I'm good so far.

You're welcome in my lap any time Sweetie, I could go for a nice long hug :rose:

I'm glad you get something from this thread, thats all I want for every who reads it. I dont need sympathy, I get too much of that from my family. I just want to help a few people that might otherwise be on the fence about getting checkups. The downside to not, should be obvious :)

Thanks for posting dribble. They all count :)

Quick update:

Because the chemo is suspended in dextrose water and its constantly being fed into me for 48 hours, I'm not as hungry, but I have to use almost 3 times as much insulin. When the pump runs dry, within an hour or two, my body crashes. Its got my bowels all fucked up, and for about 24 hours its fucking rough. The fatigue is a nightmare. Even things like typing are rough.

On the good side, its usually gone within say 36 hours. I'm also feeling more of the side effects now, but they say thats a positive sign that the chemo is working. The side effects I have, are the sore mouth, some aversion to cold things (Like grabbing ice with my hand) and intestinal issues.

My kidney function is holding steady, so thats a good thing, and my white blood cell count is staying above 3.6, which is good as well. So my numbers are holding, but we do expect the white cell count to drop a little more.

So, for as big a pain in the ass this is, my attitude is still great :D People here don't understand how much I enjoy interacting with them during this time (Being stuck at my desk) but I appreciate all of them (And you guys in this thread) I'm thankful for you all :rose::cool:

Big thanks to both of you!

Thank you for the update. I am glad to here it is going well. Too bad they cannot use a suspension other than dextrose. Sounds like it is really wreaking havoc with your sugar levels.
All the best to you.

I hope the rough stuff ends quickly..... sending you positive vibes for healing.
I think your great attitude and positive outlook are helping you.... they are inspiring

Glad to see you are managing and with a great attitude to boot! Keep it up! We are all pulling for you.
One day at a time...that's now how l live my life.

Big thanks to both of you!

Some people struggle to keep up a good attitude. You are clearly doing a great job of doing so! As a buddy of mine (who also battled cancer and won) says, "You have 2 choices...one sucks totally and the other is to Warrior Up and that sucks less" I'm glad you choose to Warrior Up! :D

Big thanks to both of you!

Is that normal for how much insulin you use? That seems like a lot. I don't know anything about it.

No, its not normal. It sucks, and its also a bit dangerous, but I check my blood regularly, to keep an eye on my sugar levels. Most people use ten or twelve, or even less units per dose.

What are your levels at. My wife likes to stay around seven. She only takes pills though, no insulin.
