Decadents & Dropouts OOC

So...I'm sorry to keep harping on this, but it is just an old pet peeve of mine. Avellan I know you're basing your character's spells off of D&D spells...but what caster is he? Is he a wizard? Sorcerer? Cleric? Druid? Bard? Cause you've been casting spells from completely different schools of magic. Specifically, Create Food and Water has always been something that divine casters do. However the thing that is dragging out the old DM in me...is that very few spells are instantaneous. I know I already brought up the hour long ritual for scrying, but I will keep bringing this up cause it bugs me to no end. The balancing factor of having magical powers that can potentially do anything is that you have to prepare and plan ahead before you cast them. Which is one of many reasons that I don't like Harry Potter.

I'm not going to get in to the issue of spellbook preparation and the 6 hours of rest or anything cause those are game mechanics. The idea of spells taking time to cast and not having every type of magic available to every type of magic user is a thematic element pretty key to D&D games.

On another note, Create Food and Water food is going to be like eating a bland gruel. And the water from it is essentially rainwater. Not dirty, but it would have a weird aftertaste. The food spoils in 24 hours, but at least the water could be preserved in barrels or something.

Although I'm not the asked one, I like to answer: The thread is not really based on D & D, it is just based on it loosely. I just chose the D & D-Label to give a rough hint of direction. It is rather freeform and so far "anything goes", as long as it doesn't spoil the story or the characters became omnipotent. So I do not
really care for rules. For Phyliss, she had traveled a lot and met many people, among them mages, etc. She isn't much of a magic, but quite good in that she had learned to survive. That includes a shield against physical attacks (most), magic attacks (as long as they do physical damage), featherfall, breathe under water, healing others (average/good), healing herself (really very good) and befriend undead (or at least, make them not attack her) and befriend animals (dito). And I forgot that she can melt with the ground, as long as it is earth. (Not to be used in buildings or ships.)
I think the monsters like Tronfur just pick up what they can get magicwise, so it is a higgledy-piggledy mixture of spells.

P.S. Maybe it is time for another report?

As far as Gryph's magic goes (so far)

Full range of Fire magic, basic water summoning (so he can draw moisture from anything to create a small amount of water, or if there is enough water around he can create a water spout like the one he used on the guard at the estate) and yeah that is basically it. But I think a near 7 foot giant, wielding a claymore like a longsword and throwing fire balls around is scary enough :)

So, what is he up to now? Will he stay on board and guard the ship, or will he follow Tronfur and Phyliss?

Actually waiting to see what Relic's reaction will be :)

He will probably guard the ship as he is the only able bodied person there

So it is all up to Dormant Evil now.

Edit: I am not sure if I find time to post in the next two days. So it is more up to DE and Avellan to act, and maybe Dizzyfish, DK and Nidhogg, back at the boat. If I do not post, Phyliss is lost somewhere in the woods, searching her way back.

Sorry about that guys, I got caught with a six day week, of eight hour days at work. So I've been run off my feet for the past couple of days.

As long as you forgive the little scraps of god-modding you're forgiven :p well by me at least

Oh I see how it works...Z finally gets conscious and you all have to be gone for a few days? Riiiiiiggghhhht...

No love for the doppelganger...

Actually that is probably a good thing. I certainly wouldn't trust Z.

He`s a Wizard. That`s why I said that he has a spellbook. He has a few scrolls, like all wizard, that contain a few divine and arcane spells. He also has a bit of training as a fighter. Just so he can use bette weapons. His fiendish heritage enhances his strength which is helpful.

I always imagined someone with fiendish background to be more of a sorcerer. Using innate magical talent that just gets stronger as they do, instead of having to study and read all the time. But I'm biased. I don't like wizards that much, and any time I have to do spellcasting I find a way to be more "natural" so to speak. Sorcerers instead of wizards, druids instead of clerics. That sort of thing. Again, that is just my personal bias against wizards.

Freaking wizards thinking their beards are so damn awesome....

Was Trufor's other half human? I always thought it was, but I actually don't remember if I read that or just assumed that. Also, given the varying degrees of demons and devils, he could have access to a lot of innate magic depending on the level of fiend his fiendish parent was. Having a Dretch parent would not give as much innate power as having a Balor parent. (Also if you have a Balor for a dad you can always hope one day he'll give you his lightning sword and flaming whip)

Being half-demon/devil would also make him pretty natural with fighting I imagine. Can't waste time training new demons or devils on how to fight. One last thing. Have you mentioned that Trunfor has a resistance or possible immunity to fire? I can't remember specifically if you have. I'm just thinking between Gryph and Trunfor we should be able to use fire to solve all our problems.

What? Don't look at me like that...fire solves everything!!

You can not control the fire....the fire will control you....

-pulls out his lighter and flicks on the beautiful dancing flame- Soon my pet...soon I will feed you the world....

-blows out flame- Control have been given and it will be used by those who can seize it.

DizDiz ^^

You forgot that Gryph is still on the boat with the two sailors :p But not to worry, the show can just go on :D

Gryph sees nothing!! He is in stoic repose as Skandolf and Colin are blinded by the awesome power of his pure awesoe-tude!

Oh, I did not forget, Naunet's rush to get
to Z made her over look a few details. ^^
It was only for comical status so Gryph
had something to do. Trust me. There are
methods to my madness.

Colin and Skandölf had a good oportunity to eat and drink all what was left of dinner, so that there is a good chance that they are just asleep in some corner. To be precise, Colin will prefer to sleep on deck, while Skandölf had found a small corner in the bow under deck.

Some little details: There is no table on board. The "table" that was used for dinner, is the upside down turned bathing tub.
Skandölf had given Z a blanket.
Nobody has thought before to get Z some dry clothes?! The captain wont like that.

Not like Gryph worries much about the doppelganger :p

Oh and while on that subject. Can Z change into any shape or just shapes that he knows?

I wonder if Phyliss will decide for some corporal punishment if her orders are not followed by the crew.
