Defenders of New York (Super Hero's)

Ryan

Ryan forced himself to his feet. He moved his jaw from side to side, and then forced it into the pleasant smile he'd learned how to adopt through all those crappy summer service-industry jobs. "Yes, let's go meet Daniel. Sounds like a wonderful idea."

He brushed at his sleeves, as if trying to suddenly work out all the wwater that had come from the sprinklers. He looked up, and walked over to Daniel, reaching out a hand and smiling. "Danny-boy! How've things been?"

Catrina

Sopping and grumpy, Ben all but pulled Catrina from the gym.
“Look, these people are batty,” he said. “You’re not feeling well, and most of them don’t seem to give a crap about Matt, they’re too busy buying into this hocus pocus. Let’s go back to the hotel.”
Catrina nodded, once the sprinklers had activated she’d scrambled to retrieve the cards with her contact number, settling them beneath a propped bowl before the ink ran. Then she’d pocketed one of Elliot’s forms; it probably had his information on it somewhere. But after that she was at a loss. Standing alone in the middle of a cavernous room, sopping wet, the news of Matt’s death barely making an impression on most of the guests. No, not at all the way it was supposed to be.
Matt had grabbed her arms at that point and scooted her toward the door.
They half jogged out to the car park, Ben ignoring the group outside, Trina waving half-heartedly. They searched for and found their rental car, slid in, and sighed, grateful to have the unpleasantness over with.

Elliot

Taking in the poor girls bedragled state, Elliot smiled gently, going to her side. "I'm sorry you have had to live with this for the past ten years. If you're willing to come with me, I can help you." He rested a hand on her shoulder, giving a quick look to Greg. "Perhaps we should get back to the gym, where its dry. I am sure everyone is worried about you Greg, lets put their minds at ease, shall we?"

A moment later, the three of them entered the gym. Elliot watched in stunned silence as the last drizzle of the sprinkler system came down. He wondered if things could get any worse, this was well past disasterous. Taking a deep breath, Elliot stepped forward, about to call everyone to attention so that he could try to aleviate some of their angseity. There was a scent in the air that caught his attention though. A cologne, it was setting off a memory. "Cliff?" Elliot whispered to himself, looking around suspiciously.

Daniel smiled as Ryan walked over and greeted him. He shook his hand and replied, "Ryan, how are you doing? It's been a long time since we've seen each other." He guestured to his wife, "This is my wife Janet. Janet, this is Ryan." he looked around at the soaking gym. "So what's going on here?"

The guests in the gym barely noticed the sensation of the rapid drying of their skin, hair and clothes, as the water molecules freed themselves to fly, invisibly, toward the center of the gym. The water coating the floor of the gym began to flow, concentrating itself in the center of the gymnasium floor. There, a column of rushing water began to form, until finally the entire gymnasium was dry, and the column of water stood about six feet tall. The rushing water became more agitated, working itself into a blue-white froth, then took the shape of a man. Then the head of the shape instantly transformed into flesh. A man Elliot (and some of the others) recognized as Clifton Sinclair IV stood where the column of water had been, seemingly clothed in churning froth.

"Hello, Elliot. Problems with your guests? There seems to be very little joy and excitement amongst your friends here, especially considering the astounding opportunity you've presented them. Perhaps I can help convince them of their folly. After all, I've learned to use this gift you've given me to its maximum potential. Just tell me how I can help." He gave Elliot his most disarming grin.

Alex

IC: My contract was drenched and so was I. The running water seemed to be a clue to leave the worse was yet to come. Unless this was secretly a game show and the last one to leave gets a million dollars. I stepped out of the door picturing what I could do with that kind of money.

It was dusk outside, I didn't realize how long I had spent inside the school, oh well I could honestly say it was fun, and that was all I really wanted. Robert and I paused, spotted Elliot and handed over the pieces of paper. I watched it in Elliot's hands and for some reasons despite all that was going on I felt I had just made a life altering decision. The contract didn't seem at all damaged by the water that hit it in fact it seemed mostly dry.

Elliot extended his hand and Robert shook it. He then turned to me and extended it out once more. I looked on for what felt longer then it could of been. Elliot appeared like the devil beaconing me into a mistake. I reached out to his hand and searched for a reason to touch his hand. This was like the shake after a business deal, no this was simply a good by shake, he greeted me now he must thank me for showing up. I touched my fingers to his and felt a spark between them. I quickly pulled my hand back, touched it to my forehead. It was only static electricity. "Sorry about that." I quickly reached down and grabbed his hand. It was warm, and comforting. I smiled and looked him in the eye moving my hand with his.

I over reacted. 'Welcome to the team.... It may take up to a day before either of you feel any real changes. When you wish to meet with me again, come to this address, it will be the teams base of operations.' The comment unnerved me a bit, perhaps he was going insane and what I did wasn't helping. He handed Robert and I cards. 'Now if you excuse me...' He trailed off I wasn't sure if it was my uneasy feelings or his walking away but he trailed off.

I smiled at Robert and reached up to my hair. "So who's going to fallow who to the store." I began to run my hand threw my hair stopping part way. "Hey are you still wet?"

He looked at the woman that he had doused with the punch and took her hand in his then shook it before he looked at Elliot who was walking away from them. He wanted to ask Elliot where he was going but he was gone before he could even ask the question then turned back to Lily or Wraith as she had called herself and opened his mouth to ask her if she wanted to follow him but he could see that she was watching Elliot closely and stood there.

I really am the Invisible Man aren't I. I feel as though I am not even here. he thought before he cleared his throat and looked at Wraith, wishing that he was visible.

"Do you want to follow him or do you want to stay out here with me and talk about something, anything at all?"

Robert had fel a strange timgling in his hand as he had shaken Elliot's. But he paid it no mind. Elliot had given both himself and Alex cards, and told them to contact him there.

"Hey, are you still wet?"

Robert was shaken out of his thaughts by Alex's question. He frowned, touching his jacket. "No, I'm not. Strange. It feels kinda... warm. Oh well, I'm sure that's something we can muse over later, eh? After all, we're due at the icecream shop!"

He chuckled and he put his arm around Alex in a friendly embrace. "C'mon. I think it's this way"

Hey, where'd everyone go?

OOC: Quick head count ... Inside the gym: Cliff the big bad collumn of water, Elliot the mad man. Just arrived Daniel and his wife Janet. Still trying to make sense of everything, Ryan and Ike. Mystery girl in the corner that no one remembers and has not said hello to anyone yet... Everyone else has fled the gym, Invisible man and Flame girl are on their way back to the gym... Just want to make sure I know where people are before I start talking to someone who inst there....

IC:

The guests in the gym barely noticed the sensation of the rapid drying of their skin, ... then took the shape of a man. Then the head of the shape instantly transformed into flesh.

Ike reached out and grabbed Ryan's arm and pulled him closer.

A man ... stood where the column of water had been, seemingly clothed in churning froth.

"Hello, Elliot. Problems with your guests? There seems to be very little joy and excitement amongst your friends here, especially considering the astounding opportunity you've presented them. Perhaps I can help convince them of their folly. After all, I've learned to use this gift you've given me to its maximum potential. Just tell me how I can help."

There was something in the tone of the man's voice that made Ike shiver, just a little. She could feel the scream building up in the back of her throat. She bit down on the impulse and swallowed the scream.

Ryan

Ryan turned, looking at the made out of water. Oh noes.

Well, that explained what happned to puddle-man, and why he wasn't hanging around with Elliot. Ryan rolled his eyes. That was such a pointless display. What, he couldn't walk in the door? Pack some clothes beforehand? No, he has to burst the sprinklers and get everyone wet.

What a dick.

Ryan turned back to Daniel. "Crazy-ass shit like this, mostly. That's what's going on here. Elliot offering to turn us into superheroes if we sign a contract, which has no legal hold by the way. People bursting out with powers, others wanting to put their normal lives on the line so they can go play superheroe with who-knows-what as a power. I mean, there's no way to tell what you get. Might not even get superpowers, just lame ones like Puddle-Man over there."

He jerked his thumb in the direction of the man wearing frothing water.

"It's all kind of stupid actually. Anyway, I'm a librarian now. So, Janet, nice to meet you. How'd you two meet?"

Lily watched as Elliot walked away, she realised with a start that it would be the last time that she ever saw him the same way she did in highschool.
She shook her head slightly, she really had outgrown him, if it hadn't been for these powers that she was sure that Elliot had given her, she would have walked away right there and then....if Greg hadn't been standing there.

"Do you want to follow him or do you want to stay out here with me and talk about something, anything at all?"

She waved her hand in Elliot's direction, "Nah, i'm over him", she cocked her head, "Would it bother you if i said that i once had a crush on him? In highschool of course." Then she smiled the brightest smile she could muster, "So, what's this shindig all about anyway, i heard whispers on the grapevine, but they were only whispers."

She shivered in the cold night air, she was soaked through and the wind was beginning to pick up. She wrapped her arms around herself in a bid to stay warm, she didn't want to use her fire ability. She didn't want to waste more crappy punch.

You know, Lily she thought for one of Elliot's friends, this guy is actually interesting. I wonder how he got his 'ability'?

Ike whirling round & round

Ryan turned back to Daniel. "Crazy-ass shit like this, mostly. ... It's all kind of stupid actually. Anyway, I'm a librarian now. So, Janet, nice to meet you. How'd you two meet?"

Ike gave Daniel a wan smile and shook Janet's hand. She wondered briefly if there had been a halucinigenic substance in the buffet food, or in the punch. Maybe ergot poisoning in the finger sandwiches? Were any of them made from rye?

Somehow Ike couldn't shake the feeling that she had caused the reunion to spiral out of control. She had been the first to approach Elliot... But it was Greg who took the brunt of the first acceptance. Things seemed to have spontaeously combusted from there. If she hadn't stepped forward, would things have go as badly as they did?

The others hadn't returned yet. She looked over to the door to listen for Elliot to reply to ... what was puddle boy's name ....

Daniel laughed at what Ryan said to him. "Super heroes? Are you serious? This is a joke right? Well, anyway, Janet and I met in college. We were in the same biology class together. She didn't like me too much at first, but I managed to work my charm on her." Daniel pulled Janet closer after he said this. "By the way, where is Elliot anyway?"

A part of him wanted to get back to the gym to see what Elliot was up to but staying here with the girl that he had just drenched with the punch was far more interesting. She had just told him that she had had a crush on Elliot and that in itself would be interesting except that it had been a high school thing and there were far more interesting things going on around here.

It was then that his brain registered the question she had asked of him and he looked at her.

"The shindig? Oh, you mean the little get together in the hallway. I came here thinking that it was a reunion and hoping that I could find answers to what happened to me twice before only to find out that the cause of my problems was the one person who had started it all. When he told me about how he could bring whatever powers we had within us out I knew that he was the cause of my problems earlier and I knew that I had to do something to try and get some sort of control over them or they would happen when I did not want them to again so I said yes to his release, shook his hand and as you can see you cannot see me."

It was then that he noticed that she was shivering and took off his coat, placing it over her shoulders just to see that he had reappeared although he did not care about that. He did not know if that was going to be enough to warm her up but he hoped that it would do something to warm her up.

"Again I am sorry that I got you wet. Do you want to go inside where it is warm?"

Elliot

"Cliff... After our last meeting, I never expected to see you again." Elliot said casually as he slid to one side, like one wolf circling another, veying for claim on its territory. "How long DID it take you to reconstitue yourself after being boiled away? Call it scientific interest."

From behind Daniel Elliot spoke:
"Cliff... After our last meeting, I never expected to see you again." Elliot said casually as he slid to one side, like one wolf circling another, veying for claim on its territory. "How long DID it take you to reconstitue yourself after being boiled away? Call it scientific interest."

Ike could feel the tension building around her. She had a feeling it was going to end with a real showstopper. Even if she had to manufacture it herself.

"Ryan, you said something earlier about going to get a bite to eat and catching up on old times, why don't we make it a foursome?" Ike said, "The old Pizza joint is still where we left it. I wonder if the same family from the "old country" still owns it. Why don't we each take our own cars, that way we won't have to come back here later to get them."

Ike hoped that the others would take her suggestion and leave. It would give her a chance to run to the chemistry lab and see if the science teacher still kept a block of sulfur in the display case. It might not take out "Puddle Boy" or Elliot but the exothermic reaction with water would certainly slow them down.

Lily smiled a little self conciously as he wrapped the coat around her. Her shivering subsided as she felt the warmth that he had just recently given the coat.

His male scent still clung to it. She hugged herself, gathering the warmth, unconcsiously using her heat power and began to dry herself.

A few minutes later, her frown of concentration lifted and she looked at Greg. She blinked, uncomprehending her dry state. She rewound time in her memory and found Greg's answer to her question.

"Sorry, i sometimes do that. It's really very unnerving. I don't even know it's happening most of the time. Yeah, i came tonight to see Elliot too, i need to know how the control these 'powers' of mine."

She waved her hand in dismissal, "Don't worry about the punch, remember, i asked for water, and a whole bucket at that. I think i wanted to have a shower. At least it stopped the rest of me igniting."

She looked at him and smiled, "It would probably be warmer inside, huh? Thankyou for the coat. It's rare for anyone to give me anything." she paused and started to the gym, "shall we go then?" she asked, slowing so that Greg could catch up with her.

Ryan

Ryan smiled. "You know, that sounds like a great idea. I think we should go. How about you two?" Ryan smiled at Dan, and turned, glancing over at the confrontation. He glanced back at Ike.

"Brilliant idea. Somehow I think this isn't quite the class reunion we were all expecting."

((Srry...my parents were painting and had to disconnect internet))

Melissa stared at the man who had just a moment ago been a towering column of water, and even just a few moments before that had been partly covering her and everyone around her. She shuddered gently, feeling vaguly unclean. Unsure of herself and rather very wierded out, she stood slightly and moved a few chairs over, so she was only a chair or two away from a group of people standing nearby, talking. She waited a moment for a good opprotunity, then stood again and addressed the more tense-looking of the men, the one who had spoken most recently.

"So this IS the reunion, then? It's just gone...um...bad?"

Ike speaks to Melissa

TumbleUpStairs said:
"So this IS the reunion, then? It's just gone...um...bad?"

Ike looked over her shoulder at the mystery woman, "Bad, ah, I'd call it more strange and weird. Yeah, that pretty well describes it." Ike paused for a moment, Do you knwo where Papa Leonie's pizzaria is? I think that is where we are heading. You are welcome to join us if you want."

Daniel looked at Ike and Ryan. "Well, if you two are going to Papa Leonie's, I think we will meet you there. I would like to talk to Elliot about this super-hero thing." Daniel held onto his wife's hand and walked over to where Elliot was standing. "Hey, Elliot, how are you doing? It's been a while since we last saw each other."

Melissa shook her head about the woman's question, smiling. "No clue, but if you really wouldn't mind me I'd love to come." She made it a point to look at everyone else in the small group, to smile, and to imply that she wanted everyone to be comfortable with her presence.

"I would like to talk to Elliot about this super-hero thing." said the other man, and moved away. Melissa's face took on a puzzled look that made her seem like a animal trapped in a corner. "Super...hero...thing?" She had an eyebrow partly quirked and sounded unsure. "I missed something by coming late, didn't I?"

Ike picks up two of the discarded and wet/dry packets of information. Ike held it out to Melissa and the other to Daniel. It described that the Elliot would bring out their special powers... in exchange for a one year contract as a super team to work (ooc: for Elliot?) to protect the city.

"Elliot actually called us here to make an offer to us... apparently he can cause something to happen to people that turns them into... ah, well," Ike gestured in Cliff's direction, "Like ... um... Cliff over there. Or Veronica - she turned from a petite little girl into an Amazon Princess that can heal. I guess it is random dip what you get. Which could be nothing." Ike shrugged.

Ike tried to not watch as Elliot and Cliff circled each other.

Ike sighed, "Some people are willing to see what they get, and others are a bit reluctant." Ike did not add 'they fear what they might become.'

"Ryan wants to get out of here. Daniel wants to learn more. Cliff and Elliot appear to have unfinished business that doesn't really concern us - if we choose to not accept Elliot's offer. Greg..." Ike paused for a moment and turned to face Elliot.

Ike raised her voice to get noticed by the two combatants, "Elliot! Is Greg OK? What happened to him?"

Greg ran to catch up with Lily as she walked quickly to the gym. He knew that this night was going to be interesting as soon as he showed up but this was getting a little bit out of control.

"I could not let you stand there and freeze now could I, it was the punch that I threw that got you so wet. I know that this night has been weird - that is an understatement and a half but at least it cannot get any weirder and I hope that Elliot does give you some control over your powers. I would hate to have to douse you with punch every time you catch fire."

He laughed loudly and he knew that Lily must be wondering if something was wrong with him but he had to alleviate the situation as it was too strange for him. He ran forward and to the door then held it open for Lily, "After you."

'No, I'm not. Strange. It feels kinda... warm. Oh well, I'm sure that's something we can muse over later, eh? After all, we're due at the ice cream shop!' I smiled to myself not having to pay for desert. I'm glad I came today, after all it has been fun.

He laughed to himself as he put his arm around me. I smiled while I was planing my surgery I had always hoped that the end results would be like this. I could simply resume life and things would be as if I had simply always been a girl. Still a second side of me thought that there would be plenty of awkward moments, and that this would never happen, but that side wasn't needed today. 'C'mon. I think it's this way.' We moved to his car.
