Weeeeeeell...

Had to drive over the mountains to a management meeting yesterday. Car was wobbling so I tried all night to contact the Director for a lift. Got to where I used to work at 5.30 am to cadge a lift to Canberra to borrow ex's car (he's pretty cool, that way). Everyone going to wrong end of city, so couldn't get there and back in time. No way I cold miss this meeting, so I head down in my car. Bloody terrified. I literally was rattling my teeth. Went slow and pulled over to let people pass. Nearly stacked it on the coast. Finally got to the meeting, late. Got it to a tyre specialist during a break, cos I was convinced the wheels were out of alignment. He says, 'We'll see, it sounds like more'. I go back to the meeting, dreading the news. When I ring him he says 'your alignment was out, but your tyre had to be replaced'.
He showed me the bloody tyre. It looked perfect on the car. There's hardly any wear at all. But when you looked inside there were 2 bubbles. The air was trapped between the layers of the tyre. It's not a retread, either. I bought it new about 14months ago. Apparently it wasn't used but was old stock. he said the age caused it. It was made before 2003! I had checked all my tyres cos I thought I'd had a flat, to start with. Those bubbles meant that it wasn't gripping the road.

It was a much better trip home!!!!!

Sounds like it. I spent the evening as a ring judge at our Regimental Boxing Tournament. Some good fights some not so good fights.

The t-bone sounds good Triske, one of those and a beer would be nice. Settling for a Microwaved piece of Popeye's chicken ( two days old) and a beer.

Not sure what Popeye's Chicken is. Is it like Kentucky Chucky?

Popeye's is a spicier Kentucky fried Chicken. MMMMMMMMMMMMm some good scotch and good company to drink it with. Hanging out in the hot tub slow boiling.
I am trying to cut back on teh hard stuff for this month. Only a few more days to go!!!

Last show tomorrow. My youngest cherub will be there to watch. Gosh, he's tall now! Only 15 and still growing. Might even stretch past his father's 6'3''.

Just for a wee bit Lass, not forever. And the Missus greatly appreciates it. No crazy man with a hard dick chasin her around the house!!! We've been busy and that's the way I need to be during May. Don't get drunk and maudlin.

Besides I'm about to do the BIG DRY OUT. But just for nine months this time.

The oldest got back from Afghanistan this week. I bought him some power tools. It's what dad's do for their married sons. My youngest is about three inches taller than me. He is a big, strapping Lad. Heavy too. Starting to like the Rugby he is.

We had a special beer made for the Regiment. Probably the same Helles beer just a personalized label. Just like the beer we had made for our Ball. The Brits are here and causing a ruckus on the ranges so my dogs are staying in my lap.

This weekend is Memorial day for us Yanks. It's a strange paradox that the day that the Government laid aside to recognize your friends and brothers that gave it all, is the weekend I dread the most. But you know, ya gotta break a few eggs for freedom and you can't wish away 42 months of combat. I think I'll have that drink now and go smoke a cigar and enjoy a desert wind.

Vietnam - It is only fitting and right at this point in my story to pay honor and to recognize a few very special brothers from "Down Under". I had the true privliege and honor to share an op or two with Aussies and Anzacs. I want to publically honor Bob Cox, Jim Blundell and Craig Hannan. These are men of true honor and extreme courage. I did not serve with these three men but I have a very high esteem and for these men and they are my brothers. The boys from down under underplayed a very powerful and vital role in Vietnam and are our true friend and allies. I would be willing to "take one" for them. They were warriors, honorable and true professionals. They also suffered heavy losses and never ever backed down. Gentlemen I both salute and love you. You will always be my brothers.. This picture is a painting that depicts one of the fierciest battles in Vietnam and the boys from Down Under did themselves proud. For those of you who did not know about their role in Vietnam, learn about them and you will come to both respect and honor them. I am damn proud to call them friends and brothers

I've had 2 previous attempts at answering this.

Please, Ox, don't bottle your grief up. I've seen what this can do. It's great that you are aware and actively protecting yourself and your family. The booze squeeze is good. It just makes it worse in the long run.

No one who wasn't there will ever truly understand, but your family will want to support you. And no-one is really gone while we remember them.


The G & S evenings went very well. Reviews were wonderfully complimentary. My youngest cherub was there for the last night. He had a ball. I wasn't sure that a 15year old would!

My father-in-law served in Korea(twice), Borneo and Vietnam (twice). My Uncle was sent home from Nam to die. I have worked with many Viet-Vets and every one was scarred, mentally. They were ill prepared. They fought bravely in shit conditions and suffered from chemicals used willy nilly. They were treated so badly. Had to fight for EVERYTHING when they got home. Their medical support services were abysmal. The Veterans review board didn't take their medical problems seriously. I understand things weren't much better in the US.

Their recognition and the recognition of Korean vets came too late for so many. Their sacrifice was, for too long, lost in politics.

Ox, I hope your May has been full of the best memories and less of the bad ones.

We need to celebrate today! My wonderful volunteers have been telling everyone that I'm a good boss and now I have lots of new ones!!!! Today saw so many that we got almost all of the nagging backlogged tasks from the last several months finished. I've got hardworking blokes on the books, too. So they're painting, cutting, hammering, fixing and makin the place look real fine, and getting it all warm. Things are better than it's been since I started.

Oh, and the witch that was causin all the shit.... she has a new target. Seems the bloke she lead on, while tellin the girls at work she didn't want him,..... is goin back to his wife! This cow is planning to 'send every note he ever wrote me to his wife'. Poor bastard. Bet he never knew what HE was getting into. That cow is the type of woman that turns men into women-haters! I hope she doesn't succeed in wrecking his life. She has to hate somebody. I don't get it. But everyone says that she'll leave me alone now that she's concentrating on a new target. Still, I wouldn't wish her 'attention' on anybody!!!!!

The older generation have all passed, Ox. The last was my uncle, in his 90s who was a POW in Italy and Germany in WWII. My cousins who served have all retired. My mother was youngest of 11, the old man youngest of 13, so all the cousins were older. I had a secret crush on one cuz who was Navy. He looked like a God in his dress whites.

My boy has decided he wants to be a chopper pilot in the Navy. My gf's boys are Army and RAAF. They're like my own. The youngest graduates on the 19th, and we'll all be there, proud as. I wonder what will be goin down for them.

DB is workin hard. Rotten shifts that bounce around. He's been a bit crook lately, too. Should have time off to get better. But he won't.
