Oh How did I noy see this.?I find it extremely ironic that when we were in the dark ages and further oppressed by the inquisition all the knowledge and science was kept safe by the muslim countries, cities and enclaves. Safe from our own rabid priests and bigots. The Persians and Spanish Moors, for example, were great philosophers and scientists, with strong aesthetics. How such narrow minded thinking, mysogynism, cruelty and intolerance could take hold so strongly amongt these same people is beyond comprehension.
Please don't write them all off, Ox. We got through and only because a few rose to the top to fight for change, even against entrenched opinion. The Taliban are nothing short of murderous thugs using religion as an excuse. There's a sweet young muslim boy here. He's a good hard worker and true to his religion. He doesn't pray on a mat 6 times a day but he doesn't drink, is polite and charitable and lives simply. After initial shyness in talking to women he's now fine and relaxed.
My friends are back now. Came back safely last month.
