Disaster in the Making

In an impassioned speech on the Senate floor Thursday, Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, blasted President Trump’s decision to pull troops from defensive positions in Syria, and brought up the possibility that “Turkey may have called America’s bluff” in an exchange between Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“Are we so weak and inept diplomatically that Turkey forced the hand of the United States of America? Turkey?” Romney said. “I believe that it’s imperative that public hearings are held to answer these questions, and I hope the Senate is able to conduct those hearings next week.”

As usual, Romney hasn't a clue what the fuck he's talking about.

Trump is being exposed for his utter weakness and even Republican Senators won't be able to look the other way.

I'm not sure which is worse, the hypocrisy, the lying, the corruption or the utter incompetence of this president and his administration.

Dallas (AFP) - US President Donald Trump said Thursday that he allowed Turkish and Kurdish forces to clash in deadly battle because the two sides were like children who needed to fight each other.

"It was unconventional what I did. I said they're going to have to fight a little while," Trump told a rally of supporters in Texas.

"Like two kids in a lot, you have got to let them fight and then you pull them apart.

"They fought for a few days and it was pretty vicious."

More than 500 people have been killed including dozens of civilians, mostly on the Kurdish side, and 300,000 civilians have been displaced within Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor.

And the ball lickers will keep on defending the orange train wreck.

Defending him from what??

People like you who are stupid enough to think he's in charge of the Turkish military??

Funny how they blame Trump today
but yesterday were saying, "those"
people just want to kill each other,
we should be more like President
Obama and just let them...

No body seems to be willing to sit back and ask, "Whose side are we on?"

Look around the world and where are people killing one another and for what reason? Russia, China, Africa, and the entirety of the Mid-East are stand out regions. And the reason is ideology. So which ideology should we be backing? Right wing totalitarian Islam, or left wing totalitarian Islam? What over arching national interest is at stake that would dictate we take either side?

One of the arguments is, "Well, they were our allies in the fight against ISIS." A valid argument to a limited extent. The operative word there is "were", past tense. Any rational assessment shows that they really had no choice in which side to take and that they obviously had an agenda that went far beyond the defeat of ISIS. The former Soviet Union were our allies during WWII, and look how quickly that turned. Their motives were not limited to the defeat of Nazi Germany, but also territorial gain and subjugation driven by their ideology.

Forget about Trump for the moment and ask yourself, "Do we, as Americans, want to be forever embroiled in Mid-East battles drive by a religious ideology?" Which of those ideologies do you choose? They are obviously intolerant of each other so the long term trajectory is that you have to continually make choices until there is only one ideology left. Which one do you choose? And you'd best choose wisely because eventually you're going to have to fight the last ideology standing.

Erdogan says Turkey won’t forget Trump letter

Turkey’s president says his country “cannot forget” the harshly worded letter from U.S. President Donald Trump about the Turkish military offensive into Syria. But he says the mutual “love and respect” between the two leaders prevents him from keeping it on Turkey’s agenda.

These are Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s first comments concerning the Oct. 9 letter from Trump, in which among other things he warned Erdogan not to be a “tough guy.”

Speaking to foreign journalists in Istanbul on Friday, Erdogan said that Turkey would “do what’s necessary” concerning the letter “when the time comes.” He did not elaborate.

Erdogan said: “President Trump’s letter, which did not go hand in hand with political and diplomatic courtesy, has appeared in the media. Of course we haven’t forgotten it. It would not be right for us to forget it.”

Total bullshit. He ran on getting out of the illegal Obama war in Syria.

Why do we care? The SOB is going full on Islam and aligning himself with the Russians. Maybe it's time to pull our forces and weapons out of Turkey. They aren't a reliable ally anyway and haven't been for years. In 1974 they almost went to war with Greece, another NATO member. The Turkish people have held the American people in disdain for years. They already have effectively made a decision to leave the alliance. We should help them do so. When that is over it might be time to ask ourselves if NATO itself still makes sense to Americans.

So you’ve consumed Trump’s we don’t need alliances Kool-Aid. Shortsighted and stupid.

That's not my belief, but we don't need alliances only we care about enough to support and Europe itself has changed in the last 70 years.

We shouldn't have been in Syria in the first place, the whole thing was a deep state effort of failed regime change. You should a little time researching the CIA program called Timber Sycamore.

When Obama created Isis by turning tail and running headlong out of Iraq, Democrats prostrated themselves before Obama in slobbering fealty. I wouldn't be surprised if Maxine Waters and Pelosi both wanted to offer Obama their breasts in appreciation of his betrayal.:D

The Liar-in-Chief Strikes again

Trump tweeted that "people have been trying to make this 'Deal' for many years." Speaking to reporters in Texas after the tweet, Trump said previous administrations had tried to make this deal for "10 years."

Later in his comments, he said they had tried for "15 years." Then he said he has heard negotiations have been happening for even more than 15 years.
He credited his own personality for the outcome.
"They couldn't get it -- other administrations. And they never would have been able to get it unless you went somewhat unconventional. I guess I'm an unconventional person," he said.

Facts First: Trump's claim is baseless to the point of being nonsensical. The deal is a narrow agreement specifically tied to the Turkish offensive that followed Trump's decision to withdraw US troops from a Kurdish-held region of northern Syria, not an agreement that resolves longstanding regional disputes. Further, presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush never sought to give Turkey anything like the concessionary terms of Trump's deal. In addition, the Syrian civil war had not even started 10 years ago or 15 years ago.

CNN is not a reliable source. You might as well have cited Pelosi's office.

Erdogan says Turkey won’t forget Trump letter

Strange, just a couple of thread pages ago socialists/progressives/Democrats here were mocking the same letter as most particularly childish and totally ineffective. Alas, the recipient obviously took it very seriously. Mission accomplished.
