Let it get you down. Be proud of what you write, particularly if others respond and let you know they've enjoyed it. Unfortunately, until things change, it is what it is. I do believe the contests themselves have morphed into what I'm now thinking American Idol has...more popularity than real talent. Not that talent isn't recognized, I think it is. But it still boils down for the most part to Trolls, or friends of friends of friends swaying the majority.
I can live with a negative comment, even find amusement when someone gets angry, frustrated (as though the character in the story is real, or that the situation I created was also real, enough so to piss them off because of it) when that happens, I feel like I wrote a pretty good story. But when you get a feedback simply telling you you misspelled a word, or inserted a wrong name, and that you're an idiot for doing that. That for me does tend to take the wind out of my sails.
So enjoy your writing, I do and always will. But perhaps its time to move on to another venue in sharing that, at least for me, its starting to look that way.
Good luck to you, and to everyone. I hope those who honestly deserve the recognition and appreciation for their efforts will receive it. And to those few who don't...well, enjoy your fifteen seconds of fame.
My deepest apologies to you, Many Feathers. If I knew the contest was going to turn in a a fiasco of AHer's trying to get back at me by voting for DK or Soular, I would have withdrawn my nomination.
I one point I even told the AHers to vote for you instead of DK and Soular, a more realisitic choice to be the Most Influential since you've written nearly as many stories in that time frame as I have.
Again I'm sorry and I hope you will not leave the site.
