The Surrendered Wife

I don't usually advocate book burning... but this might qualify for a good bonfire. ;)

Thank you my lady I shall get that book as it seems quite the type of reading material I like.

Hmmm--then you must lack the courage of your convictions. After all, the decline of world affairs coincides with the rise of nationalism and national independence just as it does with the granting of voting rights to women--and correlation always denotes causation, as you seem to be well aware!

You presuppose that I believe nationalism is a bad thing as in the case of the English we had an empire hundreds of years ago was that either bad for the world, was not that nationalism or even the Roman empire sir

Ummm, no.

Imperialism is completely distinct from nationalism. For example, India rebelling against British rule and fighting for self-determination of governance is nationalism. India deciding to invade Pakistan and nuke the Muslims is not nationalism. Just as a hypothetical example, you understand.;)

Ain't ignorance a bitch?

All the best,

Oh, one you forgot Bachlum!:)

98. Submit to spanking with graceful humility. (Or should that be grateful?):rose: :)

Fun....

Oh what fun to play Devil's Advocate BC!

You see the thing is, people....even if BC did mean all those things (and I am not saying he did or didn't!), he IS entitled to his opinion, just the same as we all are.

It seems to me that there are some here at Lit (and I would not be so ungracious as to mention names) that are keen for others to hear their opinions but will not afford others that same grace.
Seems a tad unfair if you ask me.

There are things that BC suggested that I happen to agree with and there are some that I think are positively archaic but I do not hold it against the man for speaking his mind - neither *would* I.

I also believe that friends should stick by each other - I would never desert my friends because they happened to say something I disagreed with....how could I call myself a friend?

Oh and Wolfhound, SSG & WCM.....you are soooo enlightened!

Interesting perspective. Although there have been many protests about BC's original post, and even some insults, I don't recall seeing anyone request that his post be removed or that he be banned from posting. BC should not be prevented from posting controversial opinions, but everyone else is only vigorously attacking those opinions.

Also, I agree that friends should stick together, but if one of my friends does something that suddenly reveals that he or she has a values system totally alien to mine, I don't think I'm obligated to maintain that friendship.

BTW, I think it's great that BC posted something that provoked some very impassioned and articulate responses.

Roman

normally i agree with everything that Roman says, but i don't think that i, personally, would give up a friendship because someone else's value system was different than mine. but then pretty much everyone's value system is a little different than mine, hence the Native Alien.

and while i don't agree with BC's original post as a whole, i know that i do like to be treated with respect and that i need to show respect to get it in return.

*waves and throws a kiss at BC and Roman*

hey ya'll.
