Endless Curiosity

Also tanked my challenge.

The Divine Comedy has yet to be cracked. Something of a tumultuous week.

I have, however, placed the volume I in a prominent position on my night stand, where it will stare at me reproachfully whenever I slide into bed.

As volume I is titled Hell it’s presence should eventually guilt me into action....

Yay! I'm so happy you managed. :rose:

 :)

I let MF decide for me. We watch a film 'The Hole'. It was a scary, chilling and twisted tale. Brilliantly done. It made me jump a few times and the ending was OMG I didn't see that coming!

Here's an easy question (i.e. not requiring deep thought) for Sunday:

We’ve all been seduced into impractical purchases on occasion. Share one of yours, and tell us why it was so impractical.

I was on a business trip once, and fell in love with a leather jacket I saw in Nordstrom. It was the 80s, and this jacket was $700. A lot of money for me at that time. But a male co-worker said to me "don't worry about it. When you get home, hide the jacket. When your husband goes out, watch for his return and open the door for him in nothing but the jacket. He won't care how much it cost." Wise man....

Years ago I bought an old used motor boat so we could water ski. I knew nothing about boats, or pulling a trailer to take it to the lake. We did have some fun on the boat over the next 10 years, but it was very expensive. So I would consider it an impractical purchase.

There are two sayings about boats. I learned that both are very true.

  • A boat is a hole in the water into which you pour money.
  • The two happiest days for a boat owner are 1) the day you bought the boat, and 2) the day you sold the boat.

For an easy question, I'm really struggling here. When it comes to money, I'm ridiculously practical. For me, the $20 + tip that I spent on a manicure last week was an emotional struggle, so I guess I'll go with that.

Ooooh, I bought myself a coloring book at the Dollar Tree yesterday! Of course, I wouldn't spend the extra $1 on a set of colored pencils because I was certain there were probably some at the house. And the coloring book was suggested for aftercare, so I guess it's practical.

Wow. VT. So...wild, so crazy. :p

After that I'm a little embarrassed to post mine, but here goes:

I'm sure there've been several but the one that springs to mind is a fairly recent indiscretion. A MENG kimono, bought three years ago at Neiman Marcus on a girl's trip to Dallas.

MENG does luxury sleepwear, and is famous (in a small way) for creating wearable art. Mine is a beautiful, dull, silvery-blue silk, soft as a thousand butterfly kisses. It's printed in iridescent silver and grey and scattered with pink cherry blossoms and accompanying red buds. Decadent, tactile, opulent, visual.

It cost sixteen hundred and fifty five dollars.

How do I know this so precisely? The tag is still attached.

I HAVE NEVER WORN IT

I'm afraid to wear it for fear the dogs will ruin the delicate fabric. It lives, carefully swaddled in tissue paper, in a box at the top of my closet. Impractical purchase. Yep.

I've been thinking of my time spent here, of how I interact on the playground and have come to the conclusion that it's a bit absurd. In the real world, I proudly display my SO when I have one. Flirting with others is very limited and "I'm taken" is the message I project. Here, it's the opposite. Lovers are kept private and the flirting runs wild. Is it just me? What other things have you noticed that are normal or expected here, but are in complete contrast to your normal life?

There are certain norms that are flipped.

Here, if you've seen my face, I really, really fucking trust you. Obviously everyone in my day to day sees it.

But also here I have written detailed impregnation fantasies upon request. If, say, a coworker asked for that, it may raise an eyebrow.

The private is public and the public is private. In a way it's not absurd though. Maybe every day life is absurd. Why shouldn't we wear our sexuality on our sleeve? It's ours. And why shouldn't we keep the things that are truly personal private? It's sort of sweet. Or maybe they're both absurd, maybe hiding in general is absurd and having both together is a form of being complete?

Or maybe we're all just a bunch of sexual deviants who enjoy reading about Trekka getting fucked till she can't type. The world may never know.

Well done for thinking about it and giving yourself the challenge *pats you on the back* :)

You have reminded me that I need to report in otherwise MF will be after me. ;)

OK everyone, I had to get a 5Km out the way and now on to business. :)

The question for the day is:

Litiquette.
Does lit fill a void for you?
Is there something missing in your life this place provides?
Or is it just fun?

Answers on a postcard on here!

Yes. Very much so.

I've been posting on forums since high school, so it's just sort of part of my life. Part of me. I enjoy having a space where I can just put my words out there and let them hang in the ether. See if anyone comes by and notices them, plucks them out. It's different than a conversation. Just having my thoughts float out there is safe, if nobody notices, it's no big deal. If I pour it all out to one person, they have the power to hurt me.

I also have insomnia. And I fill my nights with...something. For years it was poker. Meaningless sex. Now it's conversation. Perusing the collective thoughts while the world sleeps.

Finally, my current life significantly lacks a certain level of...intimacy. Which this particular forum, well...

A few years ago I had a kid. Now, I'm told purchasing kids is "illegal" but, that doesn't make them any less fucking expensive.

Ummm, I forgot my lunch at work the other day and was like, "Fuck subway, I'm going to the *good* deli."

VT- you and I are cut from the same cloth.

I cannot think of an impractical purchase I've made recently, or ever. My first thought also went to an overly generous tip I gave, but I don't feel bad about it. It seems I'm too damn practical. I don't spend money on myself often, and when I do, it's very little. I also am very deliberate with my money. I think that stems from my childhood when I was forced to support my family financially from a very young age (15). I make a very good living now, and invest a lot, and give my money and time to charities that mean things to me, such as services that help homeless women and victims of domestic abuse.

I bought a fucking machine to use with tinglebliss. It took the form of an inflatable bed with a motorised attachment in a separate part that also required inflation. It took us about thirty minutes to clear space for it, unfold it and inflate both parts (using an electric pump). That made us realise that we could only use it when we could guarantee not to be interrupted for a couple of hours (a rarity) given that it would require roughly the same amount of time for deflation, folding and putting away. Then, when we tried it out, we discovered that the fucking attachment had only two speeds: "off" and "fast". I think it's a great credit to tinglebliss that she gave this intimidating proposition a try, with reasonable results (and no injuries).

That was a few years ago, and we haven't taken back it out of the loft since then.

eBay? :D

Maybe not describe it exactly like that, though ;)

The most impractical thing I ever bought was a convertible. It was not the best choice of vehicle for the climate in which I live... but it sure was a lot of fun. :)

VT is the best!

I bought a $400 network storage disk for use with my home network. Yeah, I never use it...sigh.

Hello, I hope you had a good weekend. Here goes with the first question of the week!

We’ve talked about Lit redos!
How about sexual redos?
Is there one you’d like to revisit?
Or possibly expunge from your memory?

My first wife.

Seduced, yes. Impractical yes. Details of the impracticability are inconsequential and would bore you. However, is was VERY expensive

In college.

Younger sister came to visit for the weekend and brought a friend with her. We went to a party. There was a lot of alcohol involved and her friend and I had very loud, drunken, sex that night. My sister, and all my roommates gave me the evil eye and some serious shit the next day. It was not a proud moment.

Ooooh, good question!

Redo: Not really. There were a few that were less than fabulous, but I have no desire to try and improve them. Sometimes it's just not great.

Revisit: There was this one particular night with a former FWB. It was ... hot. We had sex on every available surface from the kitchen to his bedroom. In the morning, sex in the shower, then again in the kitchen while trying to make breakfast. We worked our way back to the bedroom and spent the rest of the day there. We realized then that we'd both let our feelings develop beyond FWB status, which neither of us could deal with at the time so it was our last night/day together, but it was amazing. Quite possibly the best of my life.

Expunge: My first time. It was not a good experience. :(

There are none I'd like to expunge. Each experience, good or bad, is an important one.

There are some I'd love to get a chance to do again, because they were awesome.
Some vacation sex.
There was a month when we were just so active. Every day, multiple times. Rather experimental. It was...extraordinary.

Hmmm.

Redos: My first partner. Just everything about that situation. Ugh.

Revisit: My first orgasm! It was several years after I became active, and I'd just about convinced myself I couldn't. :cattail:

Expunge: I'm going with VT on this one. The first time. Actually...make that the first year. Physical discomfort aside, I distinctly remember thinking: Is this some kind of joke?

Hindsight tells me that might have been an indication of my kink. :p

I gasped and giggled when reading the above.

Abs, you always come across to me as so...urbane. It tickles me to think of you as an, ahem, moderate-choices-about-sex college kid! :cattail:

The little head has done the thinking more times than I'd care to admit
