Shaun of the Dead (2004) — It's cleverly understated (distinctively British) and yet one of the funniest films that I've seen, with the humour running the whole gamut from visceral gore to insightful wit. I've lost count of the number of times that I've viewed it, but I continue to spot new references or visual gags as I do so. It's also extremely quotable.

I love that movie!

< Sliding Doors - now, I am not a Gwenyth Paltrow fan, and especially when she's doing a whole "British thing", but I adore this movie. "What if" movies are hard to make...I often get confused when the story line isn't completely linear, but this one is so well done. I can watch it over and over. >

Agreed on all counts! I haven't seen it in ages but I was impressed with how well they juggled the two story lines. Kismet and fate intertwined at their best.

I'm going to take a different track here and name some of the movies I happily get sucked into watching every time I accidentally flip past on the TV. They're most definitely not the greatest films ever made, they're not deep or provocative or anything like that - I just like 'em.....Steel Magnolias, While You Were Sleeping, Love Actually, Sleepless in Seattle, Forrest Gump....you get the idea. There's probably about a hundred more like that. As to the true "classics", I couldn't possible choose - I love most of them.

There are so, so many... I guess for serious fare, Midnight Cowboy, dated but still devastating, Requiem for a Dream, The Pianist...
Of course I also love Animal House, Honeymoon in Vegas, and the ever wonderful The Producers

After seeing BFG's post, I realize that I managed to leave out my all-time favorite director: Hitchcock. Therefore, my favorite Hitchcock vehicles are North by Northwest, The 39 Steps, and Vertigo.

And Hitch leads me to Preston Sturges, my all-time favorite writer-director of comedies. From Sturges, there is the aforementioned Palm Beach Story so I will add three more: Miracle at Morgan's Creek, The Great McGinty, and Sullivan's Travels.

Now, just for you, E_N, ,my favorite terribly-bad-sci-fi flic: Co-Dependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same.

I’m a schlepper for the most part. Except being something of a neat freak I most certainly do not grab stuff off the floor.

The very idea! *clutches chest*

For general out and about I have a collection of clothes, season dependent. Thin, inexpensive, all covering, stretch materials for the summer. Heavier stuff when it’s cool. A lot of that I just dump at the end of the season.

Going out? I might, possibly, have custody of one or two pairs of expensive shoes. They need to be socialized, see people. It’s important for the emotional wellbeing. For them, bless their little hearts, I dress more formal.

I don’t know about conservative or avant-garde. Not much for prints or anything fussy. Mostly clean lines and a cool color palette. Maybe…conservative?

It depends . . .

On a Saturday or Sunday in the summer I'll usually have sandals, shorts and a plain, pocket t-shirt on. Or it might be one of a dozen or so Hawaiian type shirts I have. Jeans and loafers or hiking boots if it's cooler out. I have suits and sport-coats for occasions that require them. I have two wedding to go to over the upcoming 4th Holiday, and recently bought a new seersucker suit for those.

Workdays it's usually nice slacks and a button down collar shirt. In my line of work, it's not too fancy. Here's what's on today, white slacks and a brown linen shirt. I love short sleeved summer dress shirts . .

I am a fan of the blue jeans. When at home or running about town I'm always in jeans. They're usually faded and holey. A tank top or t-shirt to go with. If they're skinny jeans, flip flops. If straight leg, shoes will be weather and destination specific (flip flops, boots, or sneakers.) For the record, I never just grab off the floor. I don't even like to wear jeans twice. Clothes are neatly folded on shelves in the closet or hanging up. I'm a little OCD about laundry.

For work, "business casual" is the required attire. I wear whatever matches, from capris and cute tops to suits. If I have a style I guess it's classic. In reality it's whatever my salesgirl puts together for me at my go-to shop. She not only puts together something cute for me to buy, but will say things like "you can wear this blouse with that pin striped suit you bought last month and this jacket will look great with dark wash jeans." Without her, I would probably wear khaki slacks and polo shirts every day.

I actually do love to dress up for formal occasions, but only if it includes a hair appointment. If I'm expected to fix my hair in a "formal" style by myself, I'd rather just stay home. I don't need that kind of stress in my life.

I'm terribly scruffy, unless I'm going out or dressed for a client site visit. Winter: jeans and a fleece, summer: shorts and a T-shirt. The laziness of the home office...

For going out I'm liking a fitted frock and heels currently - I do enjoy making the effort for a nice night out.

You're right, that Rear Window is a great one. So, too, is To Catch a Thief and either of them could have taken the place that I gave to Vertigo. Interesting that neither one of us mentioned Psycho. Doesn't everybody know tat a son's best friend is his mother?

In winter, I wear jeans and turtleneck shirts for day-to-day wear. In summer, I swap out the turtlenecks for short-sleeved polo shirts. Occasionally a tee shirt for even more casual days. I despise wearing dress shirts and ties, though I will do so when threatened with incarceration or being force-fed a paleo diet.

For the shop, it's jeans, work boots and a t-shirt.

For the pizza place, I wear khaki shorts or pants, uniform shirt, tennis shoes.

All other times find me in either athletic shorts or sweat pants, t-shirt and slippers......I usually wear slippers when i go out to the store just because I like my feet more comfy.

I am a homebody that would love to travel, but I lack the resources or reason to do so.
It would be all to easy, should I have infinite means, for me to fill my wanderlust, trying to see all the things I can't see at home.
It would also be nice to have a person traveling with me.
Being alone can be peaceful, but it's far more fun to share experiences with someone.
I have nobody to share experiences with.

I despise routine. It's the worst thing about my current job. Bleck.

But I am also lazy, so that can hinder travel. Though mostly it comes down to resources.

Given more resources I would certainly travel more.

My favorite place so far was probably Nagasaki. Japan, in general, was so gorgeous. But Nagasaki in particular stood out. Such a blend of history. From doujinshi, the man-made island where westerners were allowed to stay to the memorials for the atomic bomb. Nagasaki, the hub of western influence, a shining example of cultures mixing peacefully, and one of the greatest victims of those cultures colliding.

Next?

Nowhere anytime soon. Never been anywhere in Europe.

I like both. Travel and routine. I’m a little Type A, with a soupçon of anxiety. Routine helps take off the edge.

Travel, though, travel can be fun. As long as I don’t have to be in charge! I haven’t done any in a while, too much responsibility. I’ll get back to it someday.

Favorite. That’s tough. Amsterdam was a wonder. Parts of Scotland, ethereally beautiful. Republic of Czech a few years after the split, intense. I think I’m going to have to go with a work related trip to Brazil. The river, the flora, the fauna. Epic.

Lots of places still on my list, but I’d like to see more of the U.S. I’ve been to several states, but very few landmarks. The grand canyon, giant redwoods, national parks, Niagara falls. And Maine. Really have to get to Maine.

I do not know why.

You can advertise for travel companions. My SO has a friend with a crazy work schedule. No time for relationship. He makes 'travel friends'. Seems to work quite well.
