Endless Curiosity

I do love to travel. I'm very definitely a tourist, though, not a traveller, I'm not a 'hacking through uncharted jungle' type. I've particularly loved Istanbul (although I don't think I'd go again until the political situation settles down somewhat), lots of places in France (except Paris *shudders*), practically everywhere I've been in Italy, the Grand Canyon in the U.S. and the Maldives.

I'm hoping to get to New Zealand next year, really looking forward to that.

I would say I love to travel, but I don't think I've done enough of it to qualify as a real traveler. I've only been out of Texas a few times and I've never been out of the US. My to-do list is looooooong. I'm working on it, though. :D

You live outside the U.S. :D

I'm anticipating a crazy day tomorrow, so I'm dropping off the question early. :)

Travel. Do you enjoy it, revel in seeing new places and new things? Or are you a homebody, who likes their routine? What’s been your favorite travel destination to date?

Bonus Question: Where do you want to go next?

I am a directed traveler. I only travel when I need to with a purpose. Like my high school reunion five years ago when I packed a bunch of activities into that week to catch up and recharge my Southern-ness. My favorite travel destination to date has been Ottawa, Canada although that was back in 1992.

I want to go to Vegas, Toronto or that corner of Texas that Princesses live in. ;)

Actually, I want to win the lottery so I can do a Lit tour around the world and hug all my hug buddies in person. That would be awesome!!!

I like to travel, but I tend to stay away from crowded destinations. Some of my favorite trips have been to quiet lakeside cabins, secluded bungalows, hidden gems of small towns, and the like. I guess traveling to places like these allows me to hold on to my "home body" tendencies in new places. I can easily adjust my routine to fit these destinations.
My favorite destination to date was backpacking across the Rockies for two weeks. Us Texas folk don't have too many Mountains for hiking and that trip was perfect.
I would love my next trip to be to Ireland. I've always wanted to go and just love the culture.

Texas is pretty great. I loved San Antonio.

But I have to admit I find Vegas terribly over rated. I just...don't get the appeal.

Used to have to go for business all the time. Though, once, my friends and I collected a bunch of those fliers/business cards the street pushers are always handing out for the call girls and made a game using them.

The only time I went to Vegas was traveling from Louisiana to Washington State on a redeye. ;)
So I missed the whole city otherwise. :)

They have slot machines and cigarette smoke in the airport. So, you pretty much got the whole experience. :D

Oh, Louisiana you said? Did you visit New Orleans?

There's somewhere I've wanted to go since reading about Huey Long.

I went there a couple times.....the food is awesome!!

I missed Mardi Gras though.
And the drive from Leesville (Ft Polk) to there was a few hours over swamp.

Awesome, I'm jealous.

I should get out there before the city sinks.

My family is all from Louisiana/South East Texas and I grew up visiting N.O., Shreveport, etc. It's a great place with better food. I'm drooling thinking about it right now!

I would argue with you but, well ... Texas.

Not really a corner, right smack in the middle. When you win the lotto come pick me up. I've never been to Vegas or Toronto. ;)

Where in South East Texas? if you don't mind sharing on a public board. ;)

And I've never been to Toronto either, VT. Let's all go! :p

I think it's a worthwhile trip. :)

I never did Shreveport.....I should have though.

New Orleans is amazing. Well worth the trip! :cattail:

Though I haven't been since the hurricane....

I would argue with you but, well ... Texas.

You'd be on the way there. ;)

We may be close to each other......

Golden Triangle- Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Orange. Not much to look at, but my family is all over it and out towards Jasper.

You're in Texas?!

You should visit the Texas thread. There are a lot of us on the board.

Just curious. Lots of family from Port Arthur to San Antonio. :)

Well, it's up to me to close the thread for the night again, apparently. To answer the question, my favorite so far has been Scotland. Next I'd like to go to the Ozarks in the fall - if I can find a companion. If all else fails, I'm just gonna hop a ride with any of you all that has a space for me!
