- Complaint threads or posts pop up on the board occasionally. People unhappy with some aspect of Lit, or upset over a bad experience. In your opinion, what is the biggest reason people leave Lit?

Already been said but, in my opinion:

Drama: things get too intense here.

Boredom: sort of the opposite of drama.


Though I must say the UI on this site must lose them some percentage of people. They haven't updated in over a decade.

People come here looking for something, consciously or not. When they don't find it, they realize they have to go back out there.

I was still relatively new when VaVa left. I remember someone asking why, and the response they received was that she went looking for Real. I didn't understand it at the time, but I do now.

Several times, I've taken a break from the site for a few months due to a combination of those two. Typically, there's some drama or other going on that I'm not involved in, and I'm bored of seemingly not being noticed when I make or respond to postings (possibly because I'm being drowned out by very shouty individuals). If that happens, then I tend to slink away quietly, have a cup of tea and wait for the whole thing to blow over.

Just throwing this out there, but sometimes I don't leave. Sometimes I just go silent. I don't even necessarily realize it, I just find that I don't have anything positive to contribute so I read and leave. I'm getting better about it, but I still find myself lurking on occasion.

I know of at least one other who lurks almost exclusively now. Almost never posts, but logs in with some frequency.
I think with that person, they like staying in contact (PMs) with some friends, but they don't want to deal with the BS on the boards.

I do that too. Sometimes the topics in active threads just don't resonate with me. I'll continue to scan the forums but I'll keep quiet and wait for something to arise that compels me to respond. I consider it a positive that I'm able to recognise at times that I have nothing useful to contribute, and that I can then clear the airwaves for others who do.

I agree with everything said so far, and I also do lurk mode.

I'll add one other 'leave' reason and that's litlationship breakups. I often see at least one part leave, occasionally both. Sometime permanently.

And I'm on my phone, so the EC gets lucky and gets my short answer.

Over the past few years, I've seen people go, then come back, then go again... and there usually are two reasons:

1 - real life demands, or a desire to "do better" with their real life family, without the distractions and temptations of Lit

2 - the drama gets to be too intense and they need a break.

I've left for both of those reasons.

Not being able to keep a balance between RL and Lit. It's easy at first to get a little compulsive and wasting away productive time. Gotta keep priorities in perspective.

I've left for that reason too.

Hahaa, but I keep coming back. This place is an opioid . . . . No intervention has worked so far. It might take a horrendous overdose . . . .

I am retired and single, but do know that family comes first. My two biggest dates of the week are Tuesday and Thursday buggy duty; take my grand-daughter for a ride. Doing it for a year now; love it. But you working people, raising kids, I get it.

I have met two lovely ladies here, still seeing both of them. Not often, far away, but worth it and love them both dearly. Meeting a dame a day away, and then taking her on a week vacation, who in hell could ask for more? Esp when you can find compatibility and delight without poring over the damned dating websites.
