Endless Curiosity

It's Sex in Pub... eh, whatever. Y'all know the drill.

- Lit, it’s own digital community. What have you learned in your time on the site? Not sexual, more a question geared towards a new and different view, or even reinforcement of currently held opinions.

Bonus Question: Are you glad you found the site?

I have learned that there are assholes who take advantage of the anonymity of the Internet to fuck with people. It was something I had no clue about back when I first logged on.

That being said, I met a bunch of people I wish to know in real life and even a couple I have met in real life. :)

It's not as if I'd be saving the world or doing household projects if I weren't on Lit, so I am glad I found the place. I am not sure if any specific learning has been involved, just good interactions. It does keep the mind limber, which is important in my job.

I've learned a lot about people and relationships too. That the old saying about 'Birds of a Feather' is true online too.

Of course I'm glad I found the site. How else could I have met all you interesting people?

I’ve learned that it’s possible to form real, genuine friendships and relationships with people you meet on Lit. That’s what makes it exciting but also scary.

As for whether or not I’m glad I found the site, well…it’s both a blessing and a curse. I’m grateful that it’s here for when I’m bored and/or lonely but it has an ability to suck you in, which sometimes makes it difficult to let go once I get started again.

*hugs* again.

Regret is a wasted emotion. What's that they say? If it's good, it's wonderful. If it's bad, it's experience. Lit mirrors life. You meet people that teach you about yourself. I'm glad I found this site. I've met amazing people who I've enjoyed interacting with and some well, I place in the *experience* bin. ;)

I have learned that I can grow to care deeply about someone who I've never met, or never even talked to on the phone. I have said this before but, "I came looking for eros but I found agape." While there are countless assholes, there are some really terrific people here. It's kind of an amazing place.

Yeah, I'm glad I found it.

Yeah, I'm glad I found it.

What he said. There are many people here I care deeply about, as friends or otherwise.

I've also learned that there is no "normal", and I've adopted a much more "live and let live" attitude. Looking back, it's possible that I used to be just a tad judgmental.

LOL....

I am less judgmental now than when I was younger, but I think it has very little to do with Lit.
Mostly it's living my life and making mistakes.

Yes, I'm glad I was shown this site. I have only been here for a whole month but I feel I have been here longer. It has confirmed that there are people out there that think and talk like me. I haven't found anything like this in the real world, or other sites. Now, I feel I'm in the crowd and not looking in. Thanks x

My time here has reinforced my love for the power of words. It has renewed my faith in the possibility of a more accepting and inclusive world. And, although the question excluded sexual discovery, it has broadened my kink vocabulary, pushed some limits, and completely annihilated others.

Yes, I'm glad I found this place. :D

My broader view rather springboards from what I’ve learned through my sexual exploration. Namely that preconceived ideas about societal norms are limiting, and in most cases, inapplicable to people as a whole, much less individuals. People are different. Fill your needs and live your life in a way that makes you happy.

I am absolutely glad I found Lit. :cattail:

I learned how easily I can hurt people. Not intentionally of course. Just through my own stupid thick-headedness.

I also learned a lot about writing, which ended up being useful at work. This one wasn't recent. I actually submitted a story (literally) a decade ago and learned a lot while writing it. (It is long since gone and forgotten)

I'm glad I found this place.

Love it....

On for about 4 years. So fun to find frisky, intelligent, and tolerant people. Helps to dispel stereotypes. My dearest friend I found here; a lovely smart dame who showed me NYC, and even more, their style of tolerance and acceptance.

when is enough enough? Maybe it's work, a relationship, a friendship, or even a family member that has pushed you to the breaking point. How do you decide that it's enough, that self preservation demands that you walk away? When you do, how do you make the break? Brutal honesty or a silent exit? What's your usual ending?

Rules for a breakup are not known to me. I have spent over a year breaking up with a lovely lady, not easy to do. You get lots of advice from dames, most of whom say to just stop all commo, cold, and never talk again. I havent been able to do that. It might be good advice, but it seem more heartless than I want to be.

It's hard to say exactly 'when'. I think it's something you have to experience and say... that's enough. It's something done incrementally over time. Of course this is my opinion and I'm speaking for myself. My exit from my marriage was unexpected quiet words of "We both know you'll never change. I'm done." I didn't even know I would say them ... but it was freeing. Exits are usually a wave a walking away.

I think there is much truth in the saying "last straw that broke the Donkey's back"
so a lot can be endured before something perhaps even trivial can be enough to push one to finish a relationship / friendship

Rarely do I get myself in that type of situation these days. If interactions do take any type of abusive line, and I mean that in the emotional sense, I am out of there.

I hate hurting people, but I also prefer honesty. I may (okay, will) agonize for a bit, but I tend to go for the brutal honesty option. In 'those' type of situations it usually leads to a sharp break in relations.

Family is different. Honesty doesn't work. There I just limit contact as best I am able, though I've also learned to walk away for long stretches.

I'm not sure I've every employed the silent exit. Too much like ghosting people. It seems kinder to let them be angry. If it was a quite casual relationship, perhaps. But presumably that's not what we're talking about.

For romantic relationships, what I will aim for can best be expressed through song:

For family I still have to see on occasion, a Scrubs quote, "I don't hate you. I nothing you."

As for what is enough? Varies by situation. Impossible to say.

Over the last year, I've taken the decision to end several friendships (non-Lit ones). They were formed many years ago when my views on the value of friends were different, and I realised at long last that they were toxic to me. It finally dawned on me that I was keeping up with them purely in order to feel popular, and I realised that I was getting back very little else, despite putting in a great deal of my own.

In each case, the decision point came when I was put upon one more time, with them either poking fun at me nastily, asking for yet another favour, or showing to me none of the empathy and support that I had repeatedly given to them. It was surprisingly easy for me to make the break. After warnings that went unheeded, I simply responded to say that I wasn't prepared to put up with them any more, and I walked away. I feel some sadness but no regret. Indeed, I feel greater self-respect now as a result of making those decisions.
