I answer most pm's. I won't repeat the criteria. Many wise women who posted before me have already explained it well. When I change my av, it usually generates a flurry of random pm's from strangers for a day or two and then it tapers off. Normally, pms i get are from people I interact with on the threads and I know them already.

Interestingly, I have a few lit "best friends" who NEVER post. We've gotten to know each other over the course of several years. But they sent that first random pm and they were polite, or charming, or funny, or all of the above. So if you don't answer, you never know...

I think it is a fair guess that at least half the ladies on AmPics that have a pic thread have turned off PMs, or at least limited PMs to only those on their Buddies list. They select who they put on their Buddies list by who posts nicely on their thread.

And I have seen the following scenario more than once with a newbie pic thread operator:

Posted by Him: I sent you a PM, but your mailbox is full. Please empty.

They get so many PMs so quickly that their mailbox fills even before they have their feet on the ground and know all the ins and outs of Lit. Which says something about the flood of unwanted PMs that some ladies receive.

I will also add that I have discovered that the culture of the different communities in the different forums is somewhat different. The AmPics culture is much more of a close family where most everyone plays friendly and in a supportive way of each other, apart from an occasional troll. The culture in the PG is also friendly, but in my opinion, not so unified as one community, more different groups or even cliques. The culture of SRP is extremely different, very closed to one another, other than a person's writing partner, and even then sometimes there is no communication between people other than what they write in their story thread.

So I expect that the way people view random PMs is also different, based upon their sex, being single or not, and which forums they most often participate in.

What's a random PM? In my 13 years as a member here I doubt that I've received a dozen PMs from people with whom I'd never had any prior contact.

What am I doing wrong?

I know you're kind of joking, but that really is no excuse. If I ever find out that one of my boys grows up and tries to pull that shit with anyone, I'll yank them up so fast they'll wish to Hell they'd been born eunuchs.

I have a very healthy sex drive, but I'm not climbing the walls calling strangers.. that's just not normal behavior, and i don't care how open minded someone is..:mad:

You are correct, kind of joking. However couple those hormones with poor parenting and/or the bad influences of society, then we have these types of morons.
