Endless Curiosity

well, there's the 9mm Glock and a .38 Smith and Wesson...
Throw in grand Daddy's shotgun and I think my privacy is covered.. :p

I just need to say I love the new AV. Very lovely and classy :rose:

Which makes me wonder . . . do you have one of those stylish conceal-carry purses with a built in gun pocket for your Glock?

oh! I need one of those, don't I? Does Louis Vuitton make anything?

Thank you for the compliment on the av. I appreciate it.

And if you know me at all, you know I'm kidding about the LV... I'd rather spend a few hundred on a leather Coach than $2500 on vinyl...

Whether hiding from work, relatives, a spouse, or just the possibility of a crazy lurker most of us take some precautions about ensuring our privacy. How do you go about protecting your privacy on Lit? Details, please.

Generally I believe that the ladies are more concerned about stalkers and the such, so they are more protective of their identities. But not always.

For everyone there are the obvious things: Don't post your real name, address, phone number, or RL email address.

As to photos, the best way to protect your identity is to just not post any self photos.

Some of us post photos without any face or other clearly identifying feature, such as a unique tattoo.

Over time I have gotten less concerned about protecting my identity and I have used a face photo, slightly filtered, as my AV. And I have become trusting of some people and have shared my first name and email address. With the handful of people I am closest to, and most trusting, I have shared my full name and much more personal information.

I suppose it is a calculated risk/reward situation. As I develop a closer bond to a person on Lit, I share more of my private self with them.

:D i have one of those cute purses. ;)

I really don't protect myself. I'm an open book. I've even had a real life friend find me on here.

I don't feel I have much to hide or protect really. But I basically just don't reveal anything personal about myself on Lit. Aside from the occasional selfie. ;)

I wonder how that went. A male or female friend? Regular poster on Lit, or just a lurker? Someone you already were aware of on Lit?

I'm an open book too. I've had identity thieves contact me and tell me, "No, your life is too boring and fucked up." So if anyone wants all my passwords and pin numbers, just PM me.

He had apparently been following my sound files for a while and followed my profile to a picture that I had posted. He sent me a text and said "um, either I just found you on a web site, or you have a twin" I said "If it's the web site I am thinking of, then yes, your pervy ass found me"
He told me about the sound files and pics and just said "wow" and asked if I was uncomfortable with him knowing. I told him that i had no reason to be. So now when he comes over, he jokes with my husband about hearing us "Fuck" and seeing what my husband gets to fuck. He's a good friend of ours. On here, he's a lurker.

I'm much more guarded now than I used to be and for very good reason. There's only one litster who knows my full name, address, phone number, etc. I don't post my face anymore because I'm too paranoid about someone finding me on here. On another site, Fet Life, a family member found my profile and sent me several uncomfortable text messages.

Ha . . .

I remember IHC, who is not at all shy about posting his face, relating a somewhat similar story. He said he had taken his dog into the vet or a groomer. When he came to pick the animal up, the guy at the place just asked him, "Do you really hate clowns?" That cracked me up.

I should be more careful than I am. But agree very much with what Inspirinious posted above.

I keep an email address just for Lit, and I don't give out too many "you can find me here" details. I have talked about where I live, but it's a really large city so that doesn't bother me greatly. As far as stalkers and privacy are concerned, I am always more worried about those who don't post or communicate here (and only lurk) vs this who do.

I'm also always mindful that there are "invisible" people out there reading my posts, or those from people who post about me. So I keep my specific details pretty tight, particularly regarding where I will be, and when. I am much more apt to talk about something I did yesterday than what I will be doing tomorrow.

says the man who said to me in a message one day..
"I live around the corner from you..."

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Hahaaaa . . But if you recall, for your sense of well being, I told you my full name and where I lived first. Then you joined me for that beer. I think it's been a great friendship ever since too. What, maybe 4+ years now?

yeah.. and then you ordered that sour stuff that made me nearly choke!

we all know how I feel about swallowing.

I don't protect myself anymore as well as I should. If there's anyone who knows me in RL lurking on here there's enough in my posts for me to be recognizable, I think. But I also save more "not for public consumption " conversation for pm's. I don't put everything out there on the boards. So it wouldn't be horrible if someone recognized me.

Also, there are a few who know who I am, where I live, and have my cell number. But only a few. My worst nightmare is if someone I'm getting to know ... well ... suddenly shares a face photo and I recognize them. Yikes.

omg.. yes..
Talk about awkward.
I was on POF for awhile then got matched with a guy that works on the same floor as me:eek:

Totally not compatible...
Just kinda weird, honestly...lol

You could have told that person, "What the hell are you doing there?"

I only give out my first name. I go with my gut in regards to telling someone what city I live in, and what I do for a living. If I don't know the person very well I'll either tell them what I do for a living, or give them a very general idea of where I live, but not both pieces of information. If I have a good feeling about the person, and I've corresponded with them, I'll share everything but my last name. Perhaps I should be more cautious. Someone did find out my last name based on the info I gave him. *ahem* But I'm okay with him knowing as I do trust him, and he did tell me and assured me that he wasn't going to use the information for anything nefarious.

I try to keep my identity hidden from the masses. In private conversations and ongoing friendships here I probably share too much, but I do make an effort to ensure that I'm not easily recognizable by lurkers.

I wouldn't mind someone I know recognizing me and saying, "Hey, I saw you on Lit. My username is _____." Woohoo, you're a perv too! Let's be besties!!

What I would mind is someone recognizing me and telling others rather than telling me. I'm not ashamed of my interests, but I also can't afford to lose my job because someone started running off at the mouth and causing trouble.

1. I keep certain details private.
2. I only reveal things one needs to know when they need it. (i.e. only certain folks know my first name, phone number, etc.)

That's about it.
Oh yeah, one more.....

3. Anything I do with a Litster remains discreet and does not get shared on the boards at all.

My thinking is similar to Collar's. It's the lurkers that cause me the most concern, rather than active members. That in mind, I don't take as much care as I should. There have been some rather unnerving stories posted, of the stalker variety. :(

I do have dogs, a rather large SO, and live in a gun friendly state, but...still. You just don't know who is watching....

A few Lister's know my first name. A couple even have my phone number and email. My big privacy sin is probably oversharing on the boards. Not pics. That just seems too risky, even if I were so inclined. I'm not too worried about anyone recognizing my feet. :D

This^. I'm more concerned about family member being blindsided, and/or embarrassed, by an asshat who recognized me and wants to be obnoxious.

I'm pretty blasé when it comes to sharing my mug here, and the reasons are that 1. I've got nothing to hide. People who know me in real life won't be entirely shocked to read the crap I post, and 2. I'm not that vain to think that someone will see a photo of me and recognise me years later. That being said, I am still careful about what I post. I am fairly recognizable, especially if people have enough information. There are many litsters who know intimate details about me, and I own that. So far, nothing has backfired, and even if someone tried, they'd have a hell of a time trying to make something stick. I'm not too worried.
