Faith is an evil thing

You talk so wonderfully but believe in a religion that states anyone that does no convert to Allah must die. That makes all you bullshit worth NOTHING. Get a new religion, honey and stay of my lawn.

Obviously you have not bothered to read the Qu'ran
My name is not 'honey' and your lawn needs mowing

I never have. Too pseudoscientific -- all deterministic theories of history are fundamentally flawed.

But Communism has had definite similarities to a religious faith, especially in the mid-20th Century: The Historical Dialectic was God, Marx was Moses, the Revolution was the Apocalypse, Lenin was Christ, the Party was the Church, Stalin was the Pope, the secret police were the Inquisition, and Trotsky was Martin Luther.
Communism killed 100,000,000 people in the 20th Century.

Imagine that if you were a murderer and tried to get sympathy by saying, "Well, Jack the Ripper killed more people than I did!"

That's what religion has been reduced to: centuries of pogroms and jihads and on and on and on, but, hey, at least we're not as bad as Hitler!

Oh, wait, the Swastika is a cross. Nevermind.

It is my impression he is pretty clear on every single thing
I respect your stance. To be clear, I'm a bit skeptical on any of the writings that are acknowledged as "holy" as the definitive definition of what a higher power wants. I still believe in the possibility of a higher consciousness.

With regards to the topic, I don't think having faith in something is evil. To me, evil implies explicit intent to harm another because it's fun. Your mileage will inevitably vary.

It's the Ethics of Belief -- see post #16.

All words ever written about 'Him' were put on parchment by fallible, imperfect men. A road map if you will that may or may not be 100% accurate. Close enough for some of us.

Is it not Islamic doctrine that the Quran is the one perfect rendering of God's word?

Written down by the Prophet Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon his house. It has been misinterpreted and corrupted and twisted to suit man's needs.
Debated and mocked by mortals who decide which parts suit them at the moment.

The ancient Japanese religion of Shinto is animistic: All things -- even rocks -- have kami, indwelling spirits. Thus a Japanese lives surrounded by a whole world of living, sentient things. Which is purely illusory, pure self-deception, but he gets to FEEL that way.

Now, are the rest of us any the poorer, for lacking that subjective experience?

Faith and evil both need definition to make sense of the topic, if anyone really wants to make the attempt in a Wilson thread.

I think that description tends to diminish and make Shinto far too narrow a concept. Japanese have also melded Shinto with Buddhism in their daily lives and clearly accommodate both. Eastern religions generally tend to be less about belief or faith in a particular entity, a god, but more about a mode or model for living.
