Favorite Music

Gordon Lightfoot..good call, DCL.

Funny you mentioned that. I was at a local club here last night (Nick's Fat City), watching the alter ego (The Dick Clarks) of my favorite local band (The Clarks) perform. As the Dick Clarks they do an eclectic mix of acoustic versions of their own music as the Clarks, and also a rather bizarre mix of acoustic covers (many by request). Last nights show included such gems as Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly", a medley of classics from Dead or Alive ("Brand New Lover/You Spin Me..(Right Round Like A Record, Baby)"). Prince's "Kiss", and John Denver's "Country Roads" just to name a few.

Scratch that "favorite local band" comment. They've got to be my favorite band right now, period. Last I checked they had a pretty poor quality real player video of their song "Brand New" available for download on their website ( http://www.clarksonline.com ) . If you're tired of all the crap the major labels are feeding you, you should check this out.

I must agree, the Pixies are a great band...I saw the Stones tour that they opened up for Mick and the Boys and they were really awesome....to the max.... Ravenloft, did you get your copy of the Heavy Metal movie when it came out on video. I just got the DVD and that is a magnificant piece of work...

Anyway, for those of you who think I have gotten "stuck in a niche" Heavy Metal is just one of my preferences, I listen to just about everything except Hard Core Rap and Mainstream Country Western (nothing against those however, I just don't prefer to listen to them)...Like this morning, I am listening to Beethoven's 5th symphony and Pictures at an Exhibition done by Emerson Lake and Palmer....its not as bizarre as the other day but it still keeps my co workers on their collective toes.

Laurel - I'm literally green with envy (is there an envy smiley? If so insert here in your minds) Probably my deepest regret in life (god what a shallow life I lead) is that I never got to see the Pixies. I have however seen Frank Black solo and its probably the best gig I've ever been to.
Did you know that the Pixies where the main source of inspiration for Nirvana? Weird huh, you'd have thought that with a band like the Pixies as inspiration you'd come up with some decent songs...

Right now, it is 72 degrees outside. I have Jimmy buffet playing now as I think about getting the boat ready for Long Island Sound. Being on the water, making love on the water is where it's at!! :)

You're never too old to have a happy childhood. Having a five year old around does help with an excuse to enjoy some fun things.

(Grandkids are better though. When you get tired of them send 'em home.)

The tape player today has "Muppet Show Album' in it. I needed to review 'I'm in love with a big blue frog' for a story idea I had.

This is a hard question... I like everything and anything.. well with the exception of classical.

Right now as I am typing, I am listening to Eazy-E "That Nutt." Before I had Bruce on and yesterday I was listening to Mark Wills.

I love all music it just depends on the mood I am in.

I love R & B - Mowtown - Heavy Metal - Rock -
Country (the new stuff) - Rap - Hip Hop - Reggae - many artists that sing Italian and French like Edith Piaf .. she is a fav.
I love Rock and Heavy Metal and the list just goes on and on.

My answer to this question is an ever changing one. I think it would be easier to ask me, what I am NOT listening to ... lol

I enjoy the 'bite' of a good heavy Metal band.

The CD in my player right now? Type O Negative: World Coming down

Other bands include: Megadeth, W.A.S.P., OLD Metallica, Anthrax, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Some Scorpions and good ol' Mr. Peter Murphey.

OH! And the "Rubber Ducky" song by Ernie, from Sesame Street.

It's the lyrics that do it for me "I don't want it, I just need it, to breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive". Isn't that what we all want?

HEY LAUREL...

*looks at MP3 player and takes a deep breath*

Tony Braxton, Babyface, Ani DiFranco, Des'ree, tons of Billy Joel, Bob Seger, Brian Adams, Sting, Rod Stewart, Bree Sharp, Cowboy Mouth, Eve 6, Extreme, Fastball, Janis Joplin, Leonard Cohen, Jann Arden, Eric Clapton, Jewel, Jim Croce, Tom Leher, Jimi Hendrix, Kirk Franklin, Lou Bega, Marc Cohn, tons of REM, tons of James Taylor, Savage Garden, Spin doctors, Weird Al, the soundtracks to Rent and the Princess Bride, Fugees, 2Pac, Melissa Etheridge, Kenny G with Aaron Neville, Eric Carmen, Don McLean, Wilson Phillips, Men Without Hats, Brian McKnight, and the Goo Goo dolls.

I'd go into my CDs, but I've taken up enough space. *chuckle*

In the CD player here at home: Janis Joplin's Greatest Hits; Trip Hop Acid Funk, Volume 4; Rod Stewart's The Mercury Anthology, disc 1; Raekwan's Only Built For Cuban Linx; and The Faerie Round, instrumental Celtic music. In my car CD player is Foxy Brown's Chyna Doll. In my CD-rom at work is the Cajun soundtrack to The Big Easy. I like almost every kind of music imaginable, except new Country (I do like the "old school" country sounds of Patsy Cline, Hank Sr., Carl Perkins, etc.) One of my lovers has turned me on to Jazz, esp. Dexter Gordon and Miles Davis... I in turn got him hooked on East Coast rap.

How could anyone not love music???

Peace,
EOD

HEY LAUREL...

That's wild... most straightedge kids I know abstain till tehy turn of age or move away to college, then turn into pot-smoking, beer-drinking, hamburger-eating fiends...lol... happened to a band I used to deal with - all 4 were straight-edge vegans or vegetarians when I first got to know them, and now all expect one have fallen from that perch. I don't think it's a lifestyle everyone can uphold, and I commend anyone over 18 who can do it.

i saw nirvana in 93, pearl jam in
94...that's about it for "cool" "old" non hardcore/punk shows.

LOL... I saw Nirvana on tour with Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, when Nirvana was the opening act (!) and Red Hot Chili Peppers were the headliners (!!)... Good show, shitty venue - the Del Mar Fairgrounds, in one of the hangers were they have the home & garden shows. Worst sound ever. But Eddie Vedder did climb up a 40-foot ladder thingy (didn't fall, unfortunately).

hell i saw youth of today
this summer (reunion show for anyone who cares) it was the most exciting show ever.

The last "punk" show I went to was the Leatherface/Hot Water Music show at the Roxy in L.A. It was fun - both bands rocked. The lead guy in Leatherface is older than my dad, lol...

I would be very impressed and amazed if somebody could tell me where to get my grubby paws on a CD copy of Doug Lazy - H.O.U.S.E. (House Music - Late 80's). A Proverbial Four Leaf Clover.

As for my favourite music. Basically anything (and I mean anything) except country and folk "I think I'm going to be sick" music.
