Types of commenters

That is the most awesomest comment evar!!

But all so many of those unimaginative cookie cutter porn stories score incredibly highly. So indeed, the majority of the readers out there are not interested in your inspired twisty plot. Just whack them over the head with a unicorn eagerly delivering their expected kink fantasy.

It's not just the fantasy/sci-fi/supernatural themes that seem to get some Taboo Incest readers offside, it can happen in other stories too set in the very real world.

One I've encountered is sports, I admit I love sports so sports frequently appear in my stories. This can never do, much like holidays. Clearly some of the readers do not want to go on a vacation, especially to Australia. Oh and humour, as I noted before. A slacker-surfer dude story I wrote for the Summer Loving contest a few years back seemed to get people offside, maybe not enough Generation X readers saw it as this was the main generation it would appeal to. And at times I've had pushback about historical themes in some of my stories set years in the past, one guy grumbled about a story I set in post-WW2 England being hopelessly inaccurate as he apparently lived in this era, which would have made him close to 90 much like the characters in the story if still living today. I've never known if this guy was serious, or perhaps an 18-year-old troll from America who has never been to England much less lived in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s?

There's also I've noticed a reluctance to accept different types of taboo stories, fetishes in the stories or even Incest-Taboo scenarios that don't come up very often. For example readers did not seem to like a story about a slacker ne'er do well 40 year old brother and his studious and intelligent 18-year-old half sister who went urban exploring in an abandoned theme park, even though half sibling stories are not common and urban exploring stories even less so. Some readers of the same story were accepting of them having sex in 'normal' situations, but condemned scenes when they continued having sex when the sister got her period. Go figure.

I currently have a Type 4 nitpicker who has made it a daily routine for the past 2 weeks to go through my stories and leave spiteful, mean comments. It was annoying at first, but now I'm starting to enjoy reading his whiny rants.

The most amusing part is that the trolls with accounts, typically don't write stories. They will scream and cuss at you, but don't have the balls to create anything and put it up on the internet to be berated by the same people like them.

You forgot the person who actually enjoyed your story and whose comment is well thought out and on point.

If I enjoy a story/poem/audio, I will leave a comment as well as a five-star raring. If I am disappointed, I do not leave a rating nor do I comment.

I got a wonderful comment about my latest flash fiction story Under the Sea entered in both the April Fools contest and the Tainted Love challenge. I am aware it is not the type of story that the average Literotica reader wants to read. That is why I appreciate the comment so very much. I only wish it wasn't anonymous

Whether they write or not makes no difference. A comment is a comment. If it truly is pure trash troll, then there is no need to look for an external reason to dismiss the comment. If you are looking for a reason other than the comment itself to dismiss the comment, it means that you might actually believe it. Interpret what you can from the comment itself at face value. That is the neutral perspective that provides the most honest interpretation. If you are hitting their profile to see what/if they write, that is you putting yourself above the comment. You are no longer neutral, you are biased against the comment. You are only being dishonest to yourself.

The Score Keeper - They always tell you what they rated, and they tend to remove points for the littlest things. You'll see their comments on some of the most legendary stories, putting them in the trash bin because such and so guy was in the story too much. Shit stories usually get a pass. The one I'm thinking of is a rather musky boy, and he misses every fine point I've ever put on a story.
On the flip side...

The "I Rated You" - They tell you what they rated, full stop. It's usually from the 4 or 5 star givers, bless them. However, that's all they give you: the rating and the comment telling you so.

The Disappointed Cheerleader
This reader leaves a glowing comment about how it was perfect and checked all their boxes and they will be reading more from the writer. Then they favorite another dozen stories. The next and last comment you get from them was about how the second story wasn't nearly as good as the first.
And then there's the more extreme variety...
The Break-Up Artist
They leave you comments on a story or two raving about how much they loved your work, offered good ratings, defend you against the negative comments, and can't wait to read more of your works. Some random story later, they are one of the first comments, and they are accusing you of being one of the worst authors ever. They can't believe you would publish something so terrible (the comments are never about anything specific), and tell you to feel bad for ever making them waste their precious time.
19. Moar plz!
This commenter nags the author that they should post the next part of the story. It might occur on an actual chaptered story or series, where it's perfectly understandable. But it's also quite possible to find it under a work that's very obviously standalone, has a definitive closure, has 'the end' and 'thanks for reading', etc. They don't care, they just want MOAR!
:ROFLMAO: 💯
And then the...
No, Seriously, Gimme
Usually Anonymous, but you get a feeling they've asked for more in your comments before. You've wrapped up a series, they proclaimed it couldn't possibly be true, there's definitely more to be written. Then, months later, they return to that same story, commenting again, "But seriously, where's the rest"
The Commissioner: "Great story, you know what you should do?" And then proceeds to request an unrelated story that's tailored to their interests, under their parameters, but lets you know they wouldn't actually pay for it.
Along a similar vein to this and @Djmac1031's, there's the...
Feed My Fetish
They are generally positive in their feedback, they don't go quite into so much detail about requesting an entirely different story, but they make their niche fetish very apparent in a way they pushily suggest to include in the next installment.
Love this thread.

The 'Bless you, little woman.'
Usually nitpicks on typo's, proofreading or story mechanics (usually angry at funny female characters).
Tells me that he understands I'm trying my best with my little woman brain, but can't let my errors go unpunished. He is obligated, no, duty bound, to point them out.

Will then message separately to offer proofreading services and cock.

Xx
I've had a smidge of this. I write in I/T and H&S a lot, and I get the...
Catfish "Catchers"
Someone who has been following you for a story or two, leaving short but tasteful comments. Then, one day, BAM! "You should be ashamed of yourself, you scum. There's no fucking way you're a woman. How dare you catfish us/me!" Or something similar. Suddenly, I---the female author---begin to question my writing style and womanhood. What did I do differently in this chapter to make you suddenly question my gender? Why does it matter what gender I am if you like my writing? I have never had a conversation with you before; why do you feel personally slighted by your incorrect catfish assessment?

My last one would be...
You Lose, No Matter What

That's it? The lack of a chapter number indicates this is all there is, and it's not much.

It's not a full story, so it earns a 1. If it's only chapter 1, the lack of a chapter number to warn it's not a complete story BEFORE opening it also earns a 1. Oh, the cliche title also earns a 1.

So, no matter what, I was getting 1 star. This was not my first Lit story by a long shot, and I almost NEVER label the first installment "Chapter 1". I did, however, have in my bio, at that time, that that was---in fact---the first part of a new series. Could have just checked my author page, you unhappy dildo.

Their opinion is worthless to me, as is this one. Trolls are trolls. They waste their time leaving such comments, and my particular troll has made it a daily habit for 2 weeks now. I find them to be cowards cause if they are so bothered by stories, then they should write their own stuff. They don't, because they know they would get the same comments back from authors they spend their time trolling.

I wish this site had a block option so I could get rid of him once and for all.

You can delete all of his comments.

No, no one is under any obligation to write his own stuff.

You can't control the troll. You can only control yourself. What you are doing by looking outside the comment itself for a reason to discredit the comment, is letting the troll control your viewpoint of your own work. You say yourself that the comment is worthless. Then why do you feel the need to discredit it? If it really is worthless just ignore it or delete it. The comment did absolutely nothing to change a comma in your story. Your story did not get any worse due to the negative feedback. It is your perception of tour own story that just got worse due to the negative feedback. You let it control you. That is why you feel the need to discredit the comment, so that you can feel that your story is better again. It's all on you. I'm not dissing you here. I'm trying to teach you. I'm trying to empower you (or anyone else who reads this).

Not sure what number we are up to, but a few types of commenters I have run into:

xx. The Subject Matter Expert
I do as much research as I can to try to make my stories as immersive as possible, but I appreciate it when actual experts take the time to weigh in because I almost inevitably get some detail wrong, from the technical (the 1967 Mustang Shelby had a unibody), to the local (highways in Oklahoma have level crossings), to the how-the-f***-did-I-miss-that (our planet rotates in the other direction).

xx. Your Warnings Are No Good Here
I write G-rated adult fairy tales and publish them in Romance, so all of my stories start with a warning that they contain little to no sex. Despite my warnings, however, I always seem to get a few "where's the fucking?" comments or "this isn't what I signed up for."

xx. The Conspiracy Theorist
I have one seemingly regular reader (they are anonymous, so it's a bit hard to tell) who always leaves some variation on the same comment, "You're an excellent writer, but do you have to be such an EXTREMIST!" They seem quite upset that I have bought into the GAY HOLLYWOOD CONSPIRACY, which I think would make a good name for a band.

xx. The Lovely Thoughtful Human
I'm pretty lucky in that the vast majority of folks who comment on my work seem to fall into this category, leaving a sentence or two about how much they appreciate my stories and how they relate to their lives. As someone who is prone to anxiety and severe imposter syndrome, these comments really help me to push forward and keep writing.

The Concise Commenter. Just the other day one left this one-word comment on my story: "Nice."
I get those and I do appreciate anyone commenting because we know its a low number that do. But I also sit there and think, "I wrote a 25k story, you read it, liked it, and all you can say is "Great story"

I also get the nasty version "Crap" and repeat comment in LW is "Typical cuck shit"

Not sure if I covered this one but got one yesterday

The Left Handed complementor

Got a very long comment on a story yesterday and it started off with-paraphrasing-read a lot of your stories, well the first page of many, but they're awful and I give one star and leave. BUt this was exceptional!"

So I usually suck, but got one right.

End of the comment they go on about a couple of lines of dialogue where I make a point, and they said "That was incredibly insightful, nothing prior to this led me to believe you were capable of that type of thought, well done!"

So, I'm a dumb ass, but not this time!

Guess its a win for a detractor to say 'Hey, I liked this' but they still couldn't resist taking their shots.

I think I got "rubbish" once.

I like more extensive comments, but comments are so rare as a percentage of the readers that I appreciate them all.

You're an idiot savant You have Savant Syndrome, it seems.

Well done.

(I was just about to Post Reply when it occurred to me that it matches some of your story comments! )

LOL.

Comments are like blind dates: either a good time, or a good story.

I love the strictly objective helpful comments - structure, character development, areas to improve, etc.

I try to remember when someone goes after my subject matter (via a low rating or a comment), it's subjective and their issue - not mine. It's hard most times because I am human, damn my ego
