I've lived on the east coast for my entire life, and I've used wavelength. I have no idea what was wrong with them.

Me either. One of them was from New York City, I do remember that.

Oh, and "fucktard." I first saw Jenny Jackson use that one. Thank you Jenny. :)

Some of my favorites:

Vade mecum, obliette, riparian, wastel, telestic, theriac... :D

I've always liked words that kind of sound like they mean. Not necessarily onomatopoeia (yeah, I had to look up the spelling), but like pendulous. It has a kind of rhythm to it, and a heaviness.

Maybe, I'm a bit nutty though.

Peckish is a word i really like :D ''im feeling peckish!''

and...i LOVE the word 'bastardised' i think its a fantastic word :D

I like words that fit just so, the ones with nuances that just aren't picked up by anything simpler. Recalcitrant has so many more ideas in it than plan old reluctant. Obstreperous gives you the edge of willful disruption that you just don't get in stubborn. Garrulousness has the nudge of being over-animated and over-the-top that doesn't occur in talkative, while loquacious, which has similar synonyms, gives an air of amiability and a bit more poise. Insouciant's another favourite too.

Unfortunately, I get stopped quite often midsentence and asked to explain what I'm saying. It often confuses me as to what the other person's asking, as I tend to not know where the limits of most people's vocabularies are and am often unsure which word they're actually questioning.

I simplify my speech when I'm face-to-face, it's just so much easier...
Tn my writing, I pitch my vocabulary to the needs of the story (I hope)
Online in general, I try to speak to the abilities of my co-posters, which is why I'm most often here where I can let it all hang out! :rose:

(edit) ooh, I forgot the words!

I just used "Discombobulate" in a story. I see it confused my Firefox spellcheck- This is why I'm writing so much period stuff right now.;)
And I just used a whole slew of words ('Slew" I like that one) about stillness;
Supine,
Enervated,
Sultry,
languor, languorous
Passivity
Acquiesce, acquiescent, quiescent

That was a fun write... :cathappy:

I like "priapism". One of my favorite stories by Harddaysknight has the line "Don't mistake an erection for being horny." Loved that.

humongous
thrall
Malthusian --- I love Malthusian. I've been able to fit that word into my stories several times
endorphin
succinct
evolutionary
imperative
gregarious

bet you like the word "manipulative", huh?

not necessarily ;) I just like a man to bring me a cold beer every once and a while - in fact "beer" is another good word - it couldn't be anything else but what it is with a name like that!

actually, I'm the same way from the male perspective. I do the steppin' and the fetchin'.

Most people think I am totally whipped (they may be right). But I build up points along the way for when I want the really BIG payback.

It's all sexual politics. And that's the best kind of politics.

goomba

groin

gonad

catywampus (so fun I had to say it again)

taint

panty ( a silly word)

any word that would make a 6th grader giggle - suggestions? kick the ball, pet the pussy cat, prick your finger...I recall smiling back in the day when some young kids laughed at the Bond movie title Octopussy. Might have been me!

I have loved these words since I first had to look them up in grade school (my own reading list - not assigned reading). They just sounded "naughty" back then. Now that I fully understand them, I like what they mean and the sound of them:

wanton
salacious
lascivious
dabauchery
licentious
whorehound
lecherous

I've always liked "tenacious." It's like a concentrated way of saying "he's a pretty stubborn guy, but with purpose."

And, just for fun . . . "bogus." Although I can't help but think of Bill & Ted when I say it. :p
