Fire Side Dancer

Rahn watched at Tora went ahead to round up the others. When they all gathered around he pointed to the platform behind Rain. "This is what I will be using to carry water this afternoon. Who wants to bet that I will carry more than Tan? Anyway, it is something I had to use when I was with my mother. It helps for carrying heavy things a lot easier. Tora, hop on. We'll show them." With his joke about carrying more than Tan he laughed a little. As he finished speaking he mounted Rain. He then waited for Tora to get on the platform. Once she was on he indicated for her to sit and hold on. He then had Rain start walking forward a little, dragging the platform with Tora on it.

"I'll take that bet," Ash piped up and Tan shook his head, "I have no doubt that you will carry more than me with that." Sol and Lia just kept quiet, both looking over it impressed. At Rahn's request for her to hop on she did so with out a question. But Ash couldn't keep his mouth closed, "Hear that Tora you make the perfect one to try it as they need something heavy." Tora shot him a glance and sat down as Rahn had indicated for her to do. Keeping her mouth shut very tight. Holding on she felt it move under her as Rain started to move forward. The three brothers where impressed, "This is brilliant, it will cut down the work load and is more efficient." This was not one of the brothers that spoke up but one of the elders, a group had gathered around behind the brothers and Lia. Kara had returned and had pushed her way gently through until she was close to Tan, who saw her struggling to get through and pulled her through the last bit so she stood beside him.

Rahn smiled as he heard the comment. He hadn't realised it, but a crowd had formed around him. He looked at the elder and nodded. "Yes, but first we need to see how well it will hold up. The one I used before was different. I had to break it apart for various things after my mother passed away. The first one we used was her idea. She suggested I drag game behind my horse and then I explained that it was not good to drag it along the gound. She told me to just put it on something. I made the first with branches. Then worked on making something like this. We will be able to see if it is good after we are done work today. I just need lids for the buckets. that way the water won't spill. Now, all of you can take a look at it if you want."

He hopped off his horse and escaped the crowd as they moved close to look at the platform. He pulled tora with him and smiled at her. "I did not expect that sort of reaction to it. Anyway, it is not that brilliant. Let's let them get a good look at it. Hopefully it won't just fall apart while I'm dragging water with it. Maybe some of them will be able to improve it. for now, I just want to rest some more until I need to work more." He smiled more at her and then pulled her close to kiss her happily.

Those that had gathered to look moved forward to get a closer look. Once they stopped Tora stood up and then realised that she would have trouble getting out of the way of every one. Then she felt Rahn pull her along with him and smiled. "I am sure it will be okay and won't fall apart," she said as he pulled her close. As he kissed her she wrapped her arms around his neck and returned his kiss. "Sounds good to me," she whispered against his lips and then returned to kissing him.

Rahn was happy with Tora's confidence in their creation. He felt her arms wrap around him and he smiled more. He held her tight to his body and kissed her deeply. A large part of him hoped that everyone would spend the rest of the day looking at their creation and he would not have to work, but he knew they needed to test it to make sure it did not fall apart.

He kissed her passionately for a while longer before he noticed the noise of talking had died down by the horse and platform. He knew it would be time to work again. He pulled away a little and gazed into her beautiful eyes. "You know, if I use Rain to work this afternoon, he will be a little tired. So, you will have to go easy on us when we run through the forest." He grinned and gave her a small kiss. He waited for someone to call him over to start working again before he let Tora out of his arms.

Tora was happy with what they had made , one because it was something she had helped him make and second if it cut down on work then she would have more time with Rahn. She heard the noise behind her subside and she realised that he had too when he pulled back slightly. Looking up at him her arms still around him, she smiled at him. "I will try," she said after he kissed her, "but I can't promise anything, Dancer and I like to run."

"Come on Rahn, time to try this thing out," Tan called over, Kara was still at his side. With a sign Ash looked at Sol and both of them said good bye and headed to the feilds, so did some of the other men. "Tell us how it works out," Ash shouted back at Tan and Rahn.

Rahn smiled and reluctantly released Tora from his arms. He walked over to Rain and mounted the horse. As Ash, Sol and some other men left for the fields Rahn laughed. "Maybe when we finish early we will go and help you slow workers!" He then rode off to where the buckets were. They loaded the platform with them and then someone brought lids and string to prevent spilling. Once ready, Rahn started Rain going just fast enough so the buckets would not fall off. They arrived at the spring, filled the buckets, and then put the lids on and tied the lids down. Then Rahn took it all back to the barrels. He was only able to go at the same walking pace as everyone else and he led rain from the ground to reduce the strain on the horse as much as he could. Even with the slow pace they were still carrying many trips worth of water. The platform seemed to hold up quite well. There were no signs of breaking. It was so efficient that a few men even left to go help in the fields where they were needed more. The afternoon's work went by quickly. Only a couple hours later thay had completely filled up the village water supply. The day's work was done for them. The people in the fields would also be done sooned because of their extra hands.

Tora watched them all head off Kara and Lia joining her, watching them. "Well I am going to finish of mending the clothes, want come keep me company." Kara nodded and Lia said she would pass, she had to go help her mother with something. They said goodbye to Lia and then returned to the fire. Both girls worked for a couple of hours and then Tora was finished all the clothes that she knew of that needed mending. Setting the clothes back in the bag she stood up. "I think the boys will be done soon, I am going to return these to the tent and then heading to the stables. Did you want to come and wait for Tan there?" "Sure," Kara agreed standing up she followed Tora. They headed to the tent and then to the stables. Letting Dancer out of the stables, Tora rubbed her hand up along Dancers nose as she fitted the rains on her. "I told you we would go for a ride today," then she pulled herself up onto Dancers bare back. Nudging Dancer, the horse lept forward and raced away from the stables. Tora held onto her reins and then when they got a good distance from the stables they turned back and this time a little slower they headed towards Kara.

Rahn and Tan finished working with the buckets and Rahn took a good look at the platform to see how well it had held up. There did not seem to be too much damage, though the wood had splintered a little. He wondered if they could place something on the bottom that could hold the wood together better and act as a barrier for the ground. He would have to think about it later. Just then he mounted Rain. Then got Tan to sit on the platform. He got Rain running toward the stable, dragging Tan behind them. Tan had to hold on tight to avoid falling off. As they neared the stables Rahn slowed the horse down slowly and brought him to a stop right next to Kara as Tora was heading toward them on Dancer. He smiled at her and waited for her to get close.

Tan held on tight when he sat on the platform, gripping tight when Rain started to run. When they neared the stables, Tan saw Kara standing there looking out into the feild. As they stopped Tan slowly climbed off, standing up he stood beside Kara and looked out into the feild.

Tora saw Rahn on Rain and smiled to herself, nudging Dancer they sped up. As they got closer Tora slowed Dancer down until she stopped before them all. "Hello, have you finished work for the day?" she asked.

Rahn smiled as Tora got closer. She stopped right in front of him and asked if they were done work. He nodded. "Yeah, we are done. I just need to untie the platform from Rain's saddle and find somewhere to put it. I'll be back out in a minute." He hopped off Rain and led him into the stable. He untied the platform and found a corner to put it in. He then mounted Rain again and went outside. He stopped Rain right next to Tora on Dancer and then leaned over to kiss her cheek.

Tora nodded when he said he would be back out in a minute. As he left she looked at Tan and Kara and smiled. "Rahn and I are going for a ride, seeing your giving Kara lessons." Tan nodded his head, "okay but don't be to late back for dinner, because we won't save you anything," he said a look of seriousness. Tora saw Kara beside him mouth that she would and Tora had to keep herself from laughing. 'It is fun having Kara around,' she thought to herself as Rahn and Rain exited the stables. Smiling as he kissed her cheek, she turned her head slightly and kissed the corner of his mouth. "Shall we go, because I have been told not to be late for dinner or we won't get any," she gave a glance at Tan.

Rahn smiled at her small kiss. Then he grinned as she told him they should not be late or else they would not get food. Without agreeing that they should go, he just kicked Rain into a run toward the forest. He looked behind him to see Tora chasing him. His grin widened and he slowed Rain so Tora could catch up to him.

"Hey, thats cheating," Tora said as Rain took off. With a shake of her head, Tora said bye to Kara and Tan and then nudged Dancer to chase after them. As they were gaining on them Tora saw Rain start to slow and as they got closer Tora slowed Dancer until they where along side Rahn and Rain. "So how did the platform work? I saw it was still in one piece," she asked when they were riding side by side.

Rahn laughed as Tora caught up to him. She asked about the platform and he nodded. "Yeah, it held up just fine. However, I need to think of something to put on the bottom to prevent wear and to hold it together even better." They started to enter the trees and he grinned. "Race you to the first natural barrier we reach. Lets see how fast you and Dancer really are." This time he waited for confirmation before he started racing.

"Your on," she said as she nudged Dancer, into a run. Dancer had been waiting for this and shot forward, Tora leaned in low along Dancer and smiled as they raced. Not looking back she focused ahead of them, her hair streaming out behind her. Dancer easily dodged around obsticles and didn't miss a step.

Rahn grinned as Tora started her horse running. He got Rain going fast. He assumed Tora and Dancer would be no match for Rain and himself. They had raced deer through the forest before. He ran Rain through the forest all the time since they did not have meadows where they had been. Yet, Tora and Dancer were able to keep their slight lead. Rahn leaned over Rain's head and whispered soft things to him. It got Rain going just fast enough to catch Tora.

Tora might have told Rahn that she didn't explore the forest much, it was because she rode through it usually to fast to pay attention around her. Dancer and her loved to run, to move. They had been doing this since Tora was little and Dancer was only a foal. Tora caught a movement from the corner of her eye and saw Rain and Rahn catch up with them. She looked over at him and smiled.

Rahn looked over at Tora and smiled. Then he urged Rain on faster. He hoped they reached a natural barrier before Rain got tired and the more rested horse beat them. Luckily he looked up and saw a river through the trees. He got Rain going as fast as possible. He leapt over a fallen tree as Dancer went around it. That slight advantage for Tora allowed her to rach the river half a second before Rahn. He stopped Rain in the river and turned him around to go the the bank. Then he leapt from the horse and smiled at Tora. He let his horse go to drink.

Tora saw them over take her and she looked ahead and saw the river. Dancer flew around a fallen tree as she saw Rain jump over it. Dancer splashed into the river a half a second before Rain did. Tora laughed as the water splashed up around them, then heading back to solid land behind him. Once they were out of the water Tora slipped off Dancer and gave her a pat on the neck, whispering that she was a good girl and that she deserved a drink. Letting her go, Dancer headed over to Rain to join him for a drink. Tora smiled at Rahn, "That was fun."

Rahn smiled and laughed. He pulled Tora into his arms and kissed her happily. "Yes, it was fun. I'll beat you on the way back though, but for now I feel like exploring. Should we follow the river for a while? We might find a nice spot." He smiled and kissed all over her face softly. He enjoyed being near her, and it was fun racing her, but a relaxed ride would also be nice.

"We will see about that," she giggled as he kissed all over her face. "But a following the river sounds nice." Leaning against him she kissed him on the lips, "Shall we ride or walk it?" she asked looking into his eyes. It was good to have some time alone with him, with out the village or her brothers watching them.

Rahn gazed into her beautiful eyes and smiled. He kissed her softly and thought for a moment. "Lets walk for a while. We can give the horses a rest. Plus, it is hard to have my arms around you when you are riding a horse. I don't want to let you out of my arms for a while. Out here we can kiss all we want without your brothers inturrupting us." He smiled at her again and kissed her softly. "I love you Tora."

"I love you too Rahn,"she whispered back to him. She liked the idea of staying in his arms for a while longer. Wrapping her arms around his waist she returned his kiss. Leaning in closer to him she kissed him passionatly, loving the fact they were alone.

Rahn smiled at her as she leaned in to kiss him passionately. He returned her kiss and held her tight to his body. After a while he broke the kiss and grinned. He spun her around a few times and moved toward the river and the horses at the same time. He put her down and made a small noise to call Rain over so he could grab his reins. He smiled at Tora. "Let's start walking."
