Fishing

No shit! My own was reeling in a Sailfish. I was strapped in the chair, but I was early 20 something, though only around 90 some lbs. The first mate had set the troll, but I reeled that sucker in. I had bruises in my tummy area from the rod and from the straps from reeling it in. Catch and release, of course, but I was proud, as it was tagged.

Thor, I want some Salmon. I miss living on the west coast quite often. *Grrr...*grumble
Dammit veryblueeyes when you said Mahi I was like "YAY my new best friend in Hawaii"

Oh way to go and now I am grown up I am only comfortable with catch and release for most fish . Your excitement at reeling it in is tangible in your narrative. I seriously love fishing as much as you I think . damn the adrenalin huh .

Back when I caught the shark : coughs 107 pounds : the catch of tuna went to the local village. I also think sadly many large game fish were sent off for taxidermy and hung in bars and boardrooms etc. I am really not comfortable with that practise any longer.

I still think we should fish together , want to meet in Oahu ?

Ice fishing

Hey Thor
We've been ice fishing here and eating fat rainbows all January .

But I have to agree it will be nice to get back out on the boat or in a stream.
Any advice on how to find a fishing buddy like the one in the hip waders?

Just have to drop my line in... I managed to catch a record silver trout on a northwest lake when I was nine...with a broken reel...wound up hauling it in by hand...loved it.

I miss the Russian River and King Salmon, fishing for halibut off Kodiak and fresh king crab.

Haven't tossed a shrimp net or pulled lines for catfish in many years as well.

Fishing the local lakes just isn't the fun it once was.

People who fish are Hawt . I need to go dispatch the salmon inhaler off to school back laters all xxx

We went fishing last weekend on the other side of Douglas Island (other side of Juneau). When we left the harbor, the water was like glass. It was chilly, but clear. We had just put our lines in the water when my daughter called and told us we should come back in. She said it was snowing and damn near white out conditions in town. Of course, I freaked out and insisted that we reel in our lines and head for home. It's a terrible feeling to be out on the the water in the winter when the visiblity is low. (I've been in that situation before and sprouted 1/2 a head of gray hairs to prove it.). So, we took off and headed back to Auke Bay.

It wasn't even an hour later when the sky cleared up and it stopped snowing and it turned out to be a really nice day. I was bummed. We could've stayed out on the water!!

I've caught one winter king so far this year. He was a beautiful fish and was even more beautiful on the grill.

This is some of the smoked salmon I sent to a good Lit buddy. We still have pounds and pounds of it in the freezer.

I hope to go deep sea fishing this year. I have never gone and always wanted to. I am really looking forward to it.

I try to go surfing in Hawaii whenever I can. Sounds like a plan. Fun times. 107 lbs at 9 years old? We need to go fishing!

I agree about the taxidermy. I hate it. Tag, take a pic and release. Most of the Marlin/Billfish tourneys are like that now. The NC Marine Fisheries has placed a huge constraint on non-meat/game fish not being released. Yeah!

Oh, Mahi is Dolphin fish and is easily catchable. Quite tasty.

*edit* Delicacy, sorry that your day of fishing was interrupted.

I dispise crowds, so I have never fished at the Russian/Kenai confluence....ever.....

there's no reason to, when you can use your feet and go to where the people aren't...

thanks fro dropping by

Damn.

You fish, you smoke fish, and you set a fine plate. Is there anything you don't do well?

That's awesome. You're so lucky. I envy you! I hope it's a blast. Catch a cool shark or something.

I went on a deep sea fishing trip with my buddy in the Mediterranean Sea, this is all we caught. :(

It's the journey, not the destination!

I wish you a great time! If you've not been offshore, prepare for motion sickness. Prior planning prevents a really fun time from turning to crap.

I have never had motion sickness, but to be on the safe side I plan to take meds. It would suck to get out there and be ill the whole time.
