Five Things Go Wrong, the RPG - OOC/Recruitment

So guys, what is the reasoning behind visiting Larissa? Is it just because Marcus know her and she happens to live in Vos now... or am I missing something?

Aegar suggested it was an entry point where you might be able to get a good backstory about what's going on and why. While not being do overt about why you are there. With Captain Blair's relationship with the Viscountess Larissa, it's possible to pass it off as a social visit. Granted word travels fast, but your group is still relatively unknown.

A few issues...

(1) Pacing - We spent 14 days on the first scene and got 12 posts. To me this feels a little slow, but I'm chalking that up to people needing more time to get comfortable with the setting, the game, and their characters. Do people want to spend longer on this scene?

(2) Is anything confusing?

(3) Did the first scene / 12 posts meet with your expectations?

(4) Suggestions for improvements? Anything you'd change?

(5) The 5th character. So Tamilla's creator sent me a PM a few days ago, about posting, but he never did. I'm thinking of opening up the 5th slot.

I would definitely like us to move on to the next scene. I am all for flavor, but if we keep at the pace that we are on, it will take us another week or longer just to get out of Nord.

I posted in the IC thread again, hoping that it will help speed things up. I just hope that Larissa has some idea who the antagonist is in this situation. Otherwise, I think we'll be completely and utterly lost.

Hey buddy, some of us have a life and threads on Lit tend to always move at a leisurely pace. It doesn't mean the games are dying. It just means people post when they find time to get around to it. I've been busy lately, and so I'll only be able to post when I get around to it. I am juggling several things right now.

I'll try to get some posts out tomorrow. I ran into a jam with my project. You know when you do a Powerpoint and it has to be a certain length? Well, I thought by shortening it that it would at least be 10 min but it's not. I think I finished it in 5-7 min. Now I'm trying to add a video clip to it or something educational to add some more minutes to it. Sucks so much.

My rule of thumb is 2-5 minutes per slide. I usually have the opposite problem. Pictures and videos are nice.

Scene 2 tomorrow

Okay we are moving tomorrow! I'm going to post Scene 2 tomorrow in the afternoon. I got caught up organizing and spring cleaning the past two days, but that's 80% behind me now.

Moving on up...

In the spirit of rail reading GMs everywhere, I moved the scene ahead. If you want to RP on Scene1, please keep doing so at Resolved Unresolved Scenes. But as Vanora and Blair haven't been active and Tot and Kosta are not rapid fire on Scene 1 either, I got the feeling it was time to advance the plot based upon what I saw OOC and IC.

Scene 2: The Pied Piper
Players: Kosta [unhurt], Tot [unhurt], Vanora [hurt], Captain Blair [unhurt]
Epics: The Pied Piper
Elites: Knight of the Veil [maimed]
Extras: 6 Ratkin
Objective:
  • (scene) Figure out what's going on.
  • (adventure) Find out where the "Lost Boys of Vos" are and/or who is taking them.
  • (bonus) Find out what happened to the girl from your vision.

And Vanora can blame Wizard of the Coasts for getting hurt. It was their dice roller that came up with 3 on a roll of a d5.

Still active, but hard to post when there wasn't an agreement on how the story was to go forwards with the end of the scene.

He gave us the option to resolve it in the other thread that he linked. So we can continue to discuss it there. Whatever we decide can reflect in the main thread.

Is it cool to talk tactics in the OOC? I assumed so, and had a post all ready to submit, but then I thought maybe I should wait for confirmation...

I like to think of this project as a "Story with rules" as opposed to a strict "Play-By-Post" table top RPG on one end and free-form collaborative story-telling on the other send.

I have no problems if y'all strategize a little, as long as it's not excessive. In the end, we are all here to write and be challenged, right?

I honestly think that being able to discuss tactics here is a must have. We don't have an established post order, Tot can really only post on the weekends, and god forbid we have a scenario where two people end up working on posts at the same time and posting before rechecking the thread to make sure nobody else has posted. Imagine if two people posted and talked about killing the four Ratkins that are left themselves. Somebody would have to backtrack and change things, then we'd have to decide who has to do what, and being able to talk about all of it ahead of time here seems waaaaay better than having to deal with all of that mess, in my opinion of course.

I am working on a post right now. It will for sure be finished today. Before I post, though, I do have a question for the group. How did you guys want to handle the Piper. He's falling right now and is likely defenseless until he lands and/or gets to his feet. Do we want to try and kill it or hope that it runs away once his six minions are dead and somebody just summoned an earthquake, lol?

He did just summon rat creatures that are trying to kill us...not to mention the bloody remains of the battle that surrounds the terminus, lol. Hard to claim innocence in that scenario imo.

My thoughts/input:

I think his pipe is the biggest threat, perhaps we can get it from him or destroy it.

I am worried he can just keep summoning more, so taking a shot at him when we have the chance is a good idea.

I'm not sure if we're down a healer and if so what lasting consequences injuries have, so not sure about the penalties for overreaching.

That is my concern too. We just watched him summon six rat creatures that attacked us. When he recovers from his fall, he could summon more. Knowing as little as we do about the guy it just makes me wonder if it's better to take the shot while the shot is there to be taken, lol.

I am worried about over reaching and having someone elsw end up injuried as well. I do like the idea of going for the pipe. I think it would possible for him to possibly drop the pipe or perhaps have someone knock it out of his hands mid fall?

Well, I'm kind of stuck on something.

1. When I first designed Tot, the Glutton God's Dinner Knife was to be an actual weapon that he uses. But in order to meet the GM's desires, I had to make the ability reliant on an actual weapon rather than a sword that materialized with Tot's left arm. Being this, I do not know what kind of sword Tot is currently wielding.

2. If I don't have him use a sword due to this discrepancy (the discrepancy being I don't know if a sword is on him or not since we weren't given a period to prepare for the mission), I can have him use his dagger. And maybe his dagger can be used as a replacement for the sword (if it is there) of the ore I do not know.

3. Do you only face the penalty if you kill the enemy? Or if you react to two foes period? Because if I had Tot use the two Ratkins as steps, he could take out the Piper with his dinner knife in mid-plummet. It'll still leave those two Ratkins still alive, but more than likely jarred by being used as steps.

Oh and to comment on the kill or spare, Tot would be all for the kill side only because his Eld would want to feast on the blood. It'll more than likely drink all the blood that's already spilled regardless of friend or foe.

And lastly, I don't just post on weekends. I have the most time on the weekends to post, but I have been able to find time during the week. Last week, I was super busy because of training. I don't have training this week, so I'll be around a little more frequently. Sometimes, especially with this game, this game requires me to thoroughly read the GM post more than other games. Usually, after reading it like three times, I finally get what he's talking about. But I do find the GM posts difficult to visualize at times and definitely the very first GM post, I didn't even know what was going on there. There were so many characters that were partially introduced. I know how they are now and their significance but I didn't learn any of that information from the IC post.

But this game requires me to actually be sitting before a computer to write responses to, while other games I tend to be able to respond through my phone while at work. I'm about to change states, which requires a lot of paperwork and shipping my belongings to a foreign country for when I get there in the future, and so I don't see myself writing posts from my phone. I'm going to be too busy running around making sure all the paperwork is flawless. But any who...

I can't visualize the Ley Line movement. I'm guessing everyone is moving like a blur because it's happening so fast since I doubt it's like getting on a roller coaster and going through "It's a Small World." So I'm not even going to bother with that.

Maybe I am missing something here, but wouldn't #1 and #2 simply fall into the preperations Kizkiz mentioned in the opening post of scene two?

With the small details worked out, the group assembled after making suitable preparations for leaving the Nord and starting the adventure proper.

Wouldn't you have simply selected your sword before meeting us at the Terminus?

Hopefully Kizkiz can make a decision on the rest, but I would hate for someone else to get injured or maimed because they have to go over their extra's allotment to cover the extras you only used as steps.

Somehow my character has to be able to get through the next two scenes without being injured or I will become maimed and/or loose my weapon (per Kizkiz) and I can imagine that in the next scene there will be another character injured. Unless we want half the party to be maimed by the time we reach the 4th scene I think we may want to keep some of this in mind... since we also have no active healer to allow for any healing in a scene.

The problem with that is. I could easily say that Tot was able to buy whatever quality sword there was on the market. Since we are playing the "hypothetical" game, I don't know if that would be allowed or not because it almost gives me too much freedom to pick whatever high-class sword I want. So because it wasn't role played out, that would have to be a GM decision. Unless he doesn't care if I choose a mithril sword or something.

As for the two Ratkin enemies, I don't know what you're talking about because Tot had two Ratkins that the GM put near him.

Three of the ratkin were close to Vanora and Captain Blair. They sniffed the air and leapt at Vanora, giggling at the pain and blood covering her body.

Two of the ratkin circled Tot. The last leapt over two pillars, machete held high in both hands towards Kosta.

"The last" I'm assuming means "One?" Since he didn't write "the last two" or anything like that. So Kosta has only one rat fighting him.

Also, the move that I would have had Tot perform was just for discussion here in the OOC. I was just trying to gauge, again, how strategic we can get with the system. It doesn't have to happen. I can easily just have him kill the two Ratkins surrounding him and do nothing else.

We still have that mysterious, hyperventilating girl who will probably succumb to her blood loss unless she is healed in some way. Hopefully, that happens before Tot's Eld decides to feast.

Also, I believe your character suffered an open fracture, which means she is more than likely in great pain and bleeding unless something is done to ease it. If that too isn't fixed, then Tot's Eld when he allows it to drink might also vampire her blood too.
