I didn't think it would happen like this, and I'd very much like to think Trump is pulling a Maskirovka on Putin, but I somehow think not, which simply means Ukraine has a longer fight on its hands, the EU WILL step up, and the USA forces Europe to once more become a military superpower. The world is becoming a far more interesting place, and I doubt Trump will get the deal he is looking for.

With the German elections, I foresee a compromise between the CDU and the AfD. The AfD get their mass deportations and the CDU gets aid for Ukraine stepped up.

Trump's Maskirovka: this is how it's going to go

Trump makes an offer to Putin that seems to the rest of the world as if he's giving away everything to Putin (except he isn't - it doesn't include things like Zelensky and the non-existent Ukrainian Nazis kicked out, the Ukrainian military reduced to 50k, etc, and an exchange of territory.

Trump makes the world expect a deal. He offers a deal that SEEMS more than reasonable to Russia to the world, but which all of us who study this KNOW that Putin can't / won't take (weakness in negotiating is lethal in Moscow and Putin needs EVERYTHING he has demanded or he looks weak and he CANNOT afford to exchange land for Kursk - that looks weak)

Putin refuses deal.

Trump tells everyone HE made Putin a great offer, a beautiful offer, an extremely fair offer, and Putin refused, so that shows he's not really a nice guy and Trump tried so hard for peace, but now we gotta' give Ukraine every weapon there is and let them smoke Russia like a bad pack of camels.

Ukraine wins war.

That sounds needlessly elaborate. He could simply start out by saying the U.S. will give Ukraine all the military aid it needs. That would be politically easy -- Russia has no supporters in Congress or the public.

The main topic of the meeting was the development of joint projects between the Ukrainian and German defense industries. Special focus was placed on the potential for launching joint production of 155-mm ammunition, specifically in Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that four additional units are being prepared for launch at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). “We are preparing to launch four new power units in Ukraine. The first phase includes two units, adding 2.2 GW, followed by a second phase – two more units, American-made by the way, from Westinghouse, also contributing 2.2 GW. We are working with our American partners to complete this plant, which will become our most powerful one,” said Zelenskyy.

This has moved fast - in late November 2021, Energoatom and Westinghouse Electric agreed on a contract to construct the first Westinghouse AP1000 reactor in Ukraine at the Khmelnytskyi plant. In May 2022, Energoatom stated that the full scale Russian invasion going on since February and occupations of other power stations had not changed their ambitions to construct these units. They were still working with Westinghouse to construct two AP1000 reactors at the site - and now, 3 years later, they're coming online. A big boost to the Ukrainian electricity grid. It's quite a ways away from the border with Russia too.

This major project will allow Ukraine to eliminate the need for electricity imports during winter and also provide cheaper electricity for Ukrainian citizens and industries.

Quite an interesting analysis of Russia's economic situation and the war. from the Kyiv Post.... the Russian economy won't allow him to continue to execute a large scale war for much longer. Trump is simply continuing Biden's policy towards Ukraine, but phrased rather more bluntly. Trump may pull the rug out from under Putin by crashing the Russian economy thru driving down oil prices. Ukraine's strikes on Russian's oil infrastructure also have a "hands off, do what you want" signal from the Trump Administration. The Russian's also knew their "Red Lines" influenced and worked on the thinking of the Biden Administration. However, these Red Line threats don't work so well on the Trump Admin and they're dropped away over the last few months.

‘Turning Point in Pokrovsk’ – Ukraine De-Occupies Pishchane, Repels Russians​

Ukrainian forces liberated the village of Pishchane in the Pokrovsk sector, halted Russia’s advance and pushed back enemy troops, inflicting significant losses. “The liberation of Pishchane has already been reported, and we can now confirm it. The village is located about five kilometers south of Pokrovsk. Russian troops have also been pushed back from several other nearby settlements,” Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia operational-strategic grouping of troops stated. He noted that the situation on the front line is changing rapidly, and there are signs of a slight shift in the enemy’s actions. He said their offensive has been partially halted this month, and in some settlements, Russian troops have even been pushed back. He remarked that this progress was due to the effective use of drones and the coordinated efforts of various Ukrainian military units.

Russian milbloggers on Tuesday confirmed Ukrainian troops in the Pokrovsk sector, the epicenter of a grinding Kremlin offensive since early 2024, advanced more than a kilometer (1,100 yards) on an 8-kilometer (5-mile) wide front to break into the Russian-held village of Pishchane in the Donetsk region. Video published by the 425th Separate Assault Regiment Skala deployed to the Pokrovsk sector, showed its infantry supported by bomber drones pushing through the village of Pishchane and winkling out Russian defenders in a professional-looking night attack. The geo-located images showed careful tactics and liberal use of grenades by Ukrainian assault troops. Unconfirmed reports said AFU units had also taken two villages adjacent to Pishchane – Dachenske, Vodyany Druhy - where Ukrainian infantry was reported to be digging in.

Overall, from a couple of other articles I've read, it seems that Ukraine's use of drones and their drone and EW capabilities are starting to give them a real edge over the Russians, leading to tactical successes such as this. The recent Ukrainian push in Kursk is another example of this, and taken together with Ukraine's rapidly increasing production of drones, together with other countries such as Germany and the UK also starting to supply ever larger numbers of drones, this may be giving Ukraine the edge they need. Also, we are seeing some Ukrainian military units such as Skala, Azov, etc., who have developed a high standard of professionalism, allowing them to fight far more effectively than in the past....

Ukrainian warriors from the Ronins attack drone company, part of the 65th Mechanized Brigade, destroyed three russian occupation forces' air defense systems in the Zaporizhzhia sector in just one day. On social media, the unit posted a video showing the destruction of three enemy anti-aircraft missile systems at once—one Tor and two Buk. The destruction of three enemy SAM systems within a day is a remarkable result that demonstrates the high level of efficiency of the unit.

These systems are, at this point in the war, pretty much irreplaceable, and every system taken out opens up a new gap in Russian air defenses, which is also why we are seeing an increase in ground attack missions from Ukrainian F16-Vipers. Russia is going deeper and deeper into the hole, and low-cost drones are increasingly dominating the battlefield.
