Ukraine’s insistence that Ukrainian be spoken and taught in schools instead of Russian contributed to the tensions that helped spark the war. Pro-Russian politicians and media portrayed this policy as oppressive cultural coercion, a narrative Russia then leveraged to justify its political and military interference in eastern Ukraine.

In WWII the Russians moblized 35 million men and lost between 8 and ten million. They never had to draft men 60 and over. It's all about resources and arithmetic, resulting in the kind of formula that sealed Ukraine's fate from the beginning.

There's a lot of old guys with military experience who can backfill rear echelon positions to free up younger guys for the battlefield. This is not an unusual thing to do especially after three years of war.

I can still be recalled to service until I'm 67. Doctors can be recalled even if they're 90.

Parliament has the power per the Constitution. They have extended martial law due to the invasion.

The people can push for Parliament (i.e. their representatives) to do differently at any time.

Russia used to have a similar Constitution until Putin changed it to extend his rule beyond the accepted laws. He removed all opposition by force.
