Of course, the war could have been won without demonizing the enemy.

In WW2 you knew who and where the enemy were - except that you put all Japanese-descent US citizens in internment camps.

We did the same with 'enemy aliens', sending most of them to the Isle of Man, even if most were refugees from Nazi Germany.

How do you demonise an enemy if you don't know who they are?

ISLAM/MUSLIMS

How do you know? Did you face them at Iwo Jima and Okinawa?

I know we've fought and won many other wars against enemies without demonizing them like that. There was always that kind of propaganda, but there was usually respect along with it, of a kind denied the Japanese in WWII. Did the Patriots demonize the Redcoats? Did Billy Yank demonize Johnny Reb? Sure, to some degree, but not like that, not as an Other.

Vette's definition of "the enemy" = people who don't look like him with "funny" names that speak "weird" languages he can't understand.

Unless they're serving him a combo dinner special at their downtown restaurant on Thursday date nights, that is!

Name 'em.

Pretty much all of them, pre-WWII. There was some demonization of the German "Huns" in WWI, but, really, by then German-Americans were far too numerous to be made targets of any reprisals like the Japanese got later, and the Doughboys at the front found themselves learning to respect German courage, from what I've read. There was some demonization of the "Spanish Brute" in the Spanish-American War, but it did not manifest in hatred of all things Spanish (we were fighting on the side of the Cuban rebels, after all).

For one thing, Japan started their war against the USA by launching a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, which was not the normal thing then. For another, their invasion of China had been going on for a long time and news of atrocities had become known.

Which doesn't make a whole lot of difference to this conversation. The argument isn't that the Japanese weren't clearly the bad guys in the scenario. The point was there was this might not have been necessary.

Fucking bullshit.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Germans are still demonized to this day, and even American Germans were persecuted during the war. American Japanese were driven into camps, Japanese Americans in the military weren't allowed to fight in the Pacific. All of our enemies have been demonized in the media in the past. Give your ignorance and political correct zeal a fucking rest.

Not really. Nazi's are demonized but not Germans or Japanese.

This wasn't a one-size-fits-all kinda thing going on, guy.

Own your xenophobic bullshit.

Awwww we shit talked and made the proud Germans butt hurt, even interned 11,000!!!

Hmnn less than 1/10th the proud white Germans persecuted than evil JAPS!! and the unfortunate Koreans/Chinese who got caught up in the mix because silly white man can't tell the difference between a Park, Wu and Tachikawa. Despite the fact that the German population absolutely DWARFS the entire Asian US population.

I wonder why that is  Oh I'm sorry did you need a tiny violin? I was to busy laughing about how your claim that Germans are still persecuted today turned out to be a prime example of white mans institutionalized racism 70 years ago.

The weed is rotting my brain LOL, sayz the world class moron who wants a pity party for one of the least persecuted races of all fucking time.
