It's beautiful, brings a tear to your eye...

Not only appropriate for the "I am Spartacus" part, but also for the fact that there is a scene with a veiled discussion of homosexuality in it.

Good work, my overanalysis has made your post even more relevent. ;)

You can focus on bad thing or you can look at good things.
Most recently one of the High School nearby me voted an out butch lesbian as homecoming Queen. At the ceremony they both came out in suites (the king and the "queen" -who was also a "king" herself). So, yeah, you will find something out there to justify your world-view whether you are an optimist or a pessimist.

That reminds me of something that happened in a Maine high school a few years back. A lesbian couple was voted by the students for the Cutest or Best Couple superlative, but the principal or the superintendent of the schools wasn't going to let them get it. I'm not sure how it ended...I forget whether they mentioned it on the news or not...but I remember it ticking me off. It's great that the high school near you was more accepting than the other high school.
