How is the advice of switching to Linux any different from switching to an Apple product cause "you can't get infected on a Mac"?

Which is of course, bullcrap.

Statistically speaking, Unix/Linux is more secure so it's not that you can't but are far less likely to have issues with malware

I was able to restore. No matter if I plug ipod in after opening iTunes or if I launch iTunes from a shut down mode, the screen will still not swipe to unlock.

Yes, the screen is clean, and there is so screen protector on it.

If my computer sits idle for a few hours my monitor will shut off, which is normal.

When i move the mouse it comes on for a few seconds then shuts off. I need to turn it on and off for a few minutes before it stays on.

I'm thinking a video card issue.

If that device is still under warranty, walk into an apple store, if you have one, they will replace it as Apple doesn't repair, they replace.

I suspected as much. No warranty, no store within 3 hours.

Thank you

Does the slide lock actually slide, but it just won't unlock? Or does the slide-lock not respond at all?

The latter is likely an issue with the digitizer-glass. Is the glass chipped/cracked anything? Was it dropped recently?

If the former, be sure that you've reset the ipod then plugged it into iTunes to be restored. If it still doesn't work then, its probably the glass. You can buy replacement glass online for about $10, but suggest you let a pro actually swap it out. Be sure to also get the correct glass for your model as they are not interchangeable.

The slide-lock will not respond. There are no cracks, chips or anything of the kinda and she said she hasn't dropped it. It's actually in very good physical appearance. If and when I do get to the big city for glass replacement, there's no guarantee that that will fix it. Now I'm considering the best value comparing a new one to a replaced screen.

No, no guarantee. Still, if it were me, I'd take it to the apple store and chat up the geekiest guy there. He won't be able to replace it with a new one, but you could pick his brain at to what could be the likely cause of the problem. With that info, find an ipod repair shop, have a conversation with them and get a likely cost to fix. From that, you can do the math 're fix versus new.

From experience I can tell you that the glass cost about $10 and came with its own tools to fix. A pro will likely charge you $30-$50.

Hope that helps and good luck.

Also, use your womanly wiles with both geeks, i.e., a tip shirt.

Hmmm...a tip shirt? Call me naive but is that like a tight, low cut shirt?

I was going by the assumption that glass repair was more, because I got my cracked iPhone screen replaced at a repair shop in Anchorage three weeks ago for $95. That was the going rate after calling a couple shops.

Yes, re shirt.

Cost depends entirely on which ipod you have, and it sounds like you have an itouch? Depending on which generation, it'll be more than $10, but unlikely closeto what you paidto have your iphone fixed.

Yes, it's the itouch. I'm going to the city next weekend, maybe I'll look into that.

Btw, I did a updrade on the PC browser. I had to to even do the restore. I still haven't attempted to surf around as it's so slow.

Okay, pizza's here!

I have to hide the tits when I go into an apple store, cause even though I'm a genius they seem to think bewbs = stupid

I have no idea how to help you use your looks to your advantage as my own bring me very little in return.

Ok, this is weird.

I was reading the costco thread and decided to have a look on their site. So I typed in the url, hit enter and this came up:

You don't have permission to access "http://www.costco.com/" on this server.

Okaaaaayyy... I checked with Google that I had the right address and the same thing happened.

I've had no problems with my emails, none of my friends say I've spammed them, I use anti-virus plus I run adwcleaner, malwarebytes and Windows-KB890830-x64-V5.7 regularly - well, I do sometimes go where shitty stuff can be found *shifty eyes* - but they come up clean.

So what is going on? Shall I write a sternly formulated letter to Keith Alexander? Am I on some sort of IP blacklist?

Oh, I can go to other costco sites, it's only the .com that doesn't let me.

I'm feeling picked on. :(

It may be the website. I just tried to log in and it keeps saying "session timed out"
