Besides Blackadder & Mr. Bean, has anyone recommended Rowan Atkinson's Brit comedy THE THIN BLUE LINE? It has a larger cast of recurring characters and is set in a modern British police station. Very, very amusing and cleverly written, although not on the classic level of BLACKADDER. You might check out Rowan's work in American films, too. I think of Rowan in the same vein as John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, & the rest of the Python cast...good either solo or as part of an ensemble cast.

The historical forum/category is a great idea. There should also be a historical story category in the index. That would be very cool. However, why only up to 1899? Can't we also have a modern history thread maybe from 1900-1970 (or 1980, but I feel twenty or so odd years prior is still the present). If not, we would be missing the flapper age/era, the World Wars, the glamour of the forties and tons of others stuff that may not have a place anywhere else. Stories which this content can easily be lost in the erotic pile.

This way, we can bring research unto the threads, discuss ideas, and share topic info., which would help authors write better, more convincing stories. I'm thinking that the forum could be of this format: Time periods c.0-1000, 1000-1500, 1500-1800, 1800-1900, 1900-1970. (Maybe the B.C. era as well).

There are so many countries/cultural influences during each time period, this format may take a while deciding. Hope Laurel gives this idea the nod it deserves Svenska.

If we do have a modern history thread, I think it needs to be separate from "real history". I know....history is anything that has already occurred, no matter when. History basically is just a record of past events.

When I think of "history", I think of things prior to 1900. Can't say why that is, I just do. Maybe because in school, history classes focused mostly on events prior to then.

I stand corrected. I haven't studied that part of Swedish history for many years, and my mind playe a trick on me. True, Nascar, the vikings were AD, not BC.
They grew out of the economical conditions of the late Iron Age, during the Vendel Period, 500-800 AD. Men sailed away to trade or to steal, whichever would bring them money. The most active and well-known period was around 1000-1100 AD. The viking era died out with the new economic conditions of the Middle Age feudalism.

However, I DO know that the vikings actually DIDN'T have horns on their helmets. That's just a popular myth, spread by Hagar and other viking cartoons.

And the viking wives were not without men. No village would be stupid enough to send all their men away, and leave the village unprotected for months.
