We now have a mouse in the house... so now the oven is in pieces in the middle of the kitchen, the dishwasher is dismantled on the side, and the underside of our cabinets have been pulled apart...

why didn't you just set out some peanut butter cracker in an empty glass jar sitting on it's side with a paper towel tube leading tothe cracker. You do that a couple of days & train it to go there to eat then set it up. Then because it knows to go up the jar & down the tube to get food it will & push up the tub to sit & eat in the jar. but it's not smart enough to push the tube up to get back up the jar. You should wake up to the mouse in your jar waiting on you.
