How do you format poetry?

My story features an insane cuckold husband who talks in rhyme. How do I format stuff like this?

"They did show up, but my wife was the lunch lady
With the key to a room in a motel most shady
She rode them for days and made it all go away
But I’ll leave those details for another day"

From the note I got, if I want the text to display with single line spacing, I need to format it like this: LINE 1<br>LINE 2<br>LINE 3<br>.

I'm not very savvy in these matters, does that mean I should write like this instead?

I included a sonnet in my story On a Wing and Prayer. I just wrote in Google Docs, downloaded the file as a .docx and when it came out it was exactly as I'd formatted it.

They only bummer is one line is slightly too long for a phone screen, but c'est la vie.
