I’m so old I remember…

Punch cards, dropping a stack, and trying - TRYING! - to get the damn reordering machine to work, only to eventually realize the prof had mistaught that part of how to punch 'em. Was eventually glad to have learned it then when programs ended up as stacks (plural!) of punch cards, and then was GREATLY relieved to not need 'em any more.

Only 15 years later to run across arcane military hardware that used punch TAPE..... *grrrr*

ISOIR being told at work that we were all getting upgraded computers - from 286's to 386's. When mine was installed, I tried installing and saving my large Excel spreadsheet. The 286 would save it in about 27 minutes. As a test of the 386, I saved and went downstairs to the vending machine to get a soda...and when I eventually sauntered back 14 minutes later, the save was ALREADY done! It was a miracle! Less than 1/2 the time...:D
