I didn't leave the Democrat Party, it left me!

David Horowitz, Mark Levine, Jonah Goldberg Norman Podhoretz and Mark Steyn have become my new mentors and teachers.

Good lord, that may be the saddest sentence ever written.

One thing I don't understand about these "I didn't leave the Democrats, they left me" folks is that the Democrats probably peaked in their liberalism back when I was a toddler, and they've gradually been getting more conservative ever since. I can see old style northeastern Republicans claiming they've been left behind by their party, but except for the special case of Dixiecrats (and most of them switched long ago), who is it that could possibly find the current Democrats more unfriendly to conservative and moderate opinion than it was 20, 30 years ago?

That's nowhere near the truth, one only has to examine the recent treatment of the "blue-dog" Democrats, the ones who were run in order to appeal to the right of the political spectrum in traditional red constituencies...

What treatment is that? As the lowest common denominator, progressive-wise, they seem to be the ones setting the agenda.

The edges of the tent defines it's shape.

Nixon enacted wage and price controls, proposed subsidized universal health care for those not covered by their employers, created the EPA, OSHA and the Office of Minority Business Enterprise.

All positions that Republicans would (and do) oppose today as "socialist."

I didn't leave the Republican party, it left me.

Actually, that would be the "Republic" party.

Did you see Anthony Weiner riffing on that?

The Blue Dogs are being told that the Left-Wing health care is more important then their re-election.

Nancy Pelosi spelled it out even clearer this Sunday.

So on one hand you're saying that Dems will do anything toget re-elected, now you're complaining that health reform is more important than their re-election.

THey already voted for it. YOu think the baggers are going to cut them slack for that in November if they change course?

???

How you from point A to point B is beyond me...

Yes. They have a chance to throw water on the Tea Party powder, which is why Nancy wants to drag this out. She wants a win-win, the skeleton in place AND the Blue Dogs gone. The Blue Dogs need to defeat this sooner and then they have all summer to rehab and go out and pitch the elements the Republicans are in agreement on...

They have a chance to be heroes...

Cue Kim Carnes:

Ah, wait. You're talking about the House here, right?

Still only half true though. Frisco, meet Stupak.

Okay, Liar, you are saying that the Democrat Party has swung to the right...

Correct?

They're coming back to me?

Doing a 180 on a socialist bill that you already voted for because of an election on the other side of the country doesn't make you look like a hero. It makes you look like a weakling AND a socialist, trying to hide your true colors from das volk.

"Strong and wrong".

Okay, Liar, you are saying that the Democrat Party has swung to the right...
Not significally. The Dems under Clinton was a swing to the right (or less left then the Dem opposition before him). The Dems from 06 thru to today with Obama has so far been a swing to the confused. progressive here, conservative there, corporatist in a third place andf pragmatic in a fourth.
They're coming back to me?
Not quite sure where you are.

Whatever...

From where I sit, with half-a-century under my belt, both parties have swung to the Left and they consider themselves as "in the center" when what they really are is von Mises' "Middle Way."

It's why I vote Libertarian. I'm a (classic) Liberal.

Where you sit must be somewhere to the right of Ghengis Khan then.

That's just silly.
