I miss the fitness threads and the fitness Doms!

is it odd that i really like shoveling? i mean, one of my favorite things about winter snow storms is all the shoveling i get to do...i like being able to so clearly SEE the work that i have done and the difference it is making (clearing a walkway, enabling a vehicle to get in and out, etc.). it makes me feel productive and relevant.

as a kid at my grandparent's place, in the spring and summer i would often take the big garden shovel and just dig trenches...at least 2 feet deep and rather long...just for fun (hey i was an only child, okay). it was all good until that summer a sheriff's dept. car got stuck in one.

Shoveling, while not fun, beats post-hole-digging by a country mile.

Depends.

Word.

Try building a 100 foot fence, in territory that is littered with rocks. Or digging holes to put in footings for a deck in that same rocky earth. I can still hear the "clang" of the shovel and feel the stabbing pains come shooting up my arm and into my shoulder. Fucking rocks.

Why do I hate shoveling?

I do sort of remember them from being here before, definately the weekly weigh-in threads. But this was back in the days of posters such as dollparts85, so going back many years :)

Had my first workout in about 3 weeks. Or basically first movement in about 3 weeks, due to being sick.

Busted out 12 pullups and oh my glorious god. It was like little pinpricks, sparkling up my back and over my body. Like thousands of tiny blood vessels dilating after sitting and atrophying. And then my body was like, "wow, I remember this... do me more."

Yup, felt good.

Glad to hear you are feeling better YC! I love that sensation, when your body comes out of the "sick" cocoon and any kind of activity just feels sooooo damn good.

I am on week 5 of the cough-that-will-not-end. Finally broke down and went on antibiotics. Thought the fucking cough was gone and then last night it came back with a vengeance. I am forcing myself to exercise when I can but the freaking cough makes it torturous. Today I will go for a run, no matter what - I am in charge of this show.

I wish I had my healthy body back though :(

Keroin, do you think there's any way your cough could be allergy-related? i ask because i had a near-constant terrible DRY, painful cough for more than two MONTHS...my GP could not figure it out for the life of him. sometimes my coughing fits would get so severe that they would actually induce nausea and then vomiting..ugh!! and then one night out of pure desperation i popped a couple of benadryl...it was the first peaceful night of sleep i'd had in ages! now i take a double dose of alavert during the day, and the benadryl at night...have been doing it for a couple of weeks now, and my coughing has almost disappeared. i'm not sure if this proves it is an allergy thing, a sinus thing or what, i'm just glad it works and hope it keeps on working!

Thanks for the advice, OSG.

Yeah, pretty sure it's allergy/asthma related but the meds have been doing next to nothing to help. I'm on Avamys and Advair, (max dose of both). I'm also flushing out with the neti pot every day, (aka "the snot pot"), to no avail. If I take a decongestant, it definitely helps but the doc doesn't want me on them for more than a few days and as soon as I stop taking it the cough returns. Antibiotics was a last ditch effort.

Sigh.

So far, today, I feel OK. I'll keep the digits crossed.

The only thing that stops my allergy/asthma cough is the rescue inhaler. Not what it's supposed to be used for, but if you're not on anything else because a.) you're poor and b.) the doctor you saw was incompetent, then you have to make do with what you've got.

Friday saw the construction of the shed. The digging left a pretty solid pile of dirt that had to be dealt with. There were a number of holes in the common area behind us, as well as some ruts from some large truck that had driven around when the ground was soft. So I took the dirt and filled those holes. It was laborious, as I don't have a wheelbarrow, so I had to carry everything shovel by shovel.

I still hate shoveling.

However, I hate food poisoning more, as I found out over the weekend. I won't be starting Cycle 4 today. Way to wrecked, even if I am feeling something vaguely approaching human.

Yeesh, H, did you flip karma the bird or something? WTF?

I lost 3 pounds this week. So that's a total of 39 pounds lost in the 25 weeks I've been doing the Slimming World plan.

39 pounds gone, 31 pounds still to go. I feel like I'm well into the second half of the 70 pounds I initially needed to lose now.

:D

Awesome news!!!!!

Dunno. Eldest Daughter took sick too, but she apparently had some weak passable stomach bug. She was functional. I was destroyed, and had different symptoms. Now viv is not feeling well, and has a fever. She thinks it's more what Eldest Daughter had, as she's just feeling a little rough and low energy. I felt like a train ran me over about three hours after the meal that I think did it to me. Eldest Daughter was not with us for said meal, as she was spending the weekend with grandma.

What does this mean? Yeah, that there's ANOTHER intestinal bug prowling around. If I catch this, I may well just expire from sheer abdominal exhaustion. And coughing/laughing is sheer torture for my obliques right now. They hurt from the strain of sitting up, let alone moving with force.

well done :) I'm doing slimming world too, been at it 8 weeks, 12lb down (though I did gain 0.5 this week, and with a night out drinking with the girls on saturday, next week isnt looking promsing either)

I'm still feeling wrecked, but I'm also sick with tension, and I'm not sure why. If I didn't get it out, I was going to break something. So grabbed the 70# bell and did some pressing. I figured it would be a quick way to burn out the desire to use force. Did a bit with each arm. I may feel weak as a kitten, but I can still get that 70# bell in the air without cheating.

Wish I knew why I was so tense and pissy. This sort of mood is dangerous. I feel wound like a spring, coiled like snake ready to strike. Makes me nervous to be around my kids and the girls.

No play for me tonight I see.

Yoga teacher was pretty sadistic yesterday. I didn't realize how sore I was until I did legs tonight. Gets me in the obliques pretty good.

Oooh good luck on your SW journey and well done for the 12 off so far!

SW rocks, doesn't it? I love how it's guilt-free, and how you can fill up til you're bursting on so many nice foods :)

Another training day cruises by sans training due to recurring intestinal issues. Yay.
