Same here in Canada. My brother served in the CAF, twice deployed to Afghanistan. The stories he told about female soldiers were pretty sad. Everything from female soldiers given ridiculous preferential treatment, absurdly low standards for them, the women constantly sleeping around with all the troops (especially ones with seniority/command privileges), half or more of the female recruits 'suddenly' becoming pregnancy when overseas deployment was about to happen, etc.

I remember him mentioning how his group was out on patrol and they literally had to take their female member's rifle away. She was so freaked out and panicked there was a strong possibility she was going to shoot one of their own by accident.

I believe the philosophy is to spend more (deficit spending) when times are hard (economic downturn, war) and then, when times get better, run a surplus to reduce the accumulated debt. Of course, most governments can't manage that.

The Germans just barely did, for a while, with a sophisticated technological society, massive export economy and little defence spending (thanks to the USA umbrella and the collapse of the USSR). But few others have even tried.
