I started to once. A roommate of mine who had become one of my best friends. He wasn't physically my type at all, but I loved being around him, had a blast every single time we were together, talked about everything (and I mean e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.), so we had to be soul mates, right??

Nope. We didn't get past making out and a little groping. He just didn't do it for me and once that thought got into my head...it was all over.

Thankfully, we were able to remain friends. Really good friends. And we're both happily married to other people today.

So many couples don't know how to talk about sex. I mean, talk about their own sex together and their individual sexual needs, in a manner which doesn't stress either one or both of them. That's a huge shame, isn't it. For myself, I don't think we really cracked that one until years on in our marriage.

I feel like the right personality can make someone physically attractive in the mind's eye.

I know this feeling very well. I have known guys who if I had never met them before and saw them in a line-up of nine other random guys, they might be ranked at the bottom of my list of "Who is Physically Hottest?". However, under more realistic circumstances in which I can find out about a guy and see if I like him or not and discover if we hit it off, then that potentially bottom-ranked guy might seem more physically attractive to me (or not). The important thing is that "seem". Physical attraction is as subjective as anything can get, so if someone "seems" attractive to me because of whatever vibe we have, then he IS attractive to me.

And on the off chance an attractive woman flirts with me or some such, my immediate instinct is distrust. "What do you want? I WILL NOT HEED THINE SIREN'S CALL, FOUL TEMPTRESS!"

Sigh... I also have had this happen. I have had a few guys over the years think that I was making fun of them or something. I could ignore that for a minute or two, but if they didn't catch on quickly, then they soon lost their lustre. I was never cruel enough to inform them that if they hadn't been so cynical and had simply played their cards right, then they would have had a pretty good chance of getting laid.

Simon's answer really resonates with me, however I'd be the guest female in that scenario.

My ultimate fantasy would be to cheat on my husband, which goes against everything we have going on. Even though we have a pretty solid arrangement of consensual non monogamy, there's still something that is hotter than hell about the idea of sneaking around behind his back. Will I do it? Hell no.
