Cryptic posts. Some threads are practically designed for them, Dear X and Dear Litster, but why do you decide to go cryptic when you do? Is it the partial public acknowledge that drives it? Wouldn't a PM work, too? And as readers of cryptic posts, does it bother you to not be in the know?

My confusion around this subject is that there's no guarantee that the intended recipient will read the posting; on the other hand, there's a possibility that they will. To me, that's only a basis for venting, not communication.

Having said that, I don't particularly mind those threads because I don't tend to look at them! I guess I'll remain blissfully unaware if someone is venting that way about me.

I've been vague although never quite obvious cryptic. I'm guilty of making posts that make sense on the surface as just a quip or something light but that I know will carry a message to someone specific.
Never on the threads you mentioned though--much too obvious. I've done it in places where they can be tucked into a conversation without standing out too much.
The reason is simply to say something to someone I know is listening but who I can't for some reason contact directly even in a PM because of leaving a trail.

Well, there's a 'Dear Litster' thread that has a bunch of posts up like what we're describing. Perky can show you where, I think. I've not visited there in a long, long time. Don't like it much.

It's always possible that there are veiled posts about you. But I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm sure there might be one or two about me. I don't concern myself enough to care, though. It can be very aggravating if you let it. I'm not much for cryptic.

A PM would give that poster acknowledgment that they irked you in some way, when really it's a sly way to say Fuck Off.

I remember someone from long ago that assumed they were all about him. He was probably close, or close to being right, because he's an ass.

Pictures don't do it for me, even if I know the person quite well. They can get the motor revved up a bit, but (if I use them at all) I typically just take a peek to get my fantasies started, and close them and run with it in my imagination.

I much prefer stories, audio and my own imagination.
