Night time topic: have you ever posted on a thread, exchanging posts, hoping to display your wit, banter, and grasp of the language in an attempt to impress a frequent visitor to the thread? Is that bad, are you using the innocent post partner.

I think this happens quite often. Quips exchanged, then the PM.
As long as you don't completely hijack the thread I think it's fine, IMO.

How do you as a poster make sure that your flirting/playful ways don't get misconstrued and someone thinking that you're a tease? Or do you?

As a recipient of flirting/playful interaction how do you go about sorting if there is something more to the playful/flirting stuff

I think in some ways being a tease here isn't a bad thing.

That being said, some people end up feeling a little overwhelmed by emotions and may be sorting themselves out and that could be construed as teasing.

I guess it depends on if you think they're worth it. *shrug*
If the tease bothers you, there are plenty of fish in the sea.

Isn't this an old problem: some people, regardless of gender, don't flirt or understand it. I think it shows the flirter is confident but the rules of the game should be implicit and the game recognised as being harmless fun and NO MORE!
You can generally work out a guy has got the wrong idea when you hear scratching at your front door
