Ok I have a question for all you LDR experts. How do you know if what the person is saying is true? What I mean is, how do you know that they aren't just saying all the right things that they think you want to hear, rather than what's in their heart?

And how much time does one invest in the getting to know you phase before considering that possibly this might be real. It's easier when you can look at or touch the otherperson..it's so hard when they are far away.

I have just started my first long distance cyber relationship. The lady is hundreds of miles away but as long as you are willing to try, who knows. I actually ended up here in Texas because of the internet! I had an 18 month relationship with email, then IM, then chat and phone calls before flying over here to meet. However, it just didnt work out due to things not told to each other and the fact It was my first relationship at 38 yrs of age! Yes 38, sad isnt it!!!

The moral is if its for fun ok, if you want more be honest.

Good luck to everyone

You need to really look and hear what the other person is saying you need to watch them not only in messenger but in a forum like this and talking on the phone you need to spend enough time to really know them....

It only gets harder when you know you love them and they love you and you still can't touch them it's a stone cold bitch.

Ok so say for example, it's ina forum like this. Most people on here get right into the sexual connotations of it (obviously). If they don'tpost, they compliment others, roleplay sex scenes, etc. So in real life, you date a flirt - they might talk toother girls at the bar, but it's whether they come back to stand beside you to talk, kiss you or whatever. Obviously in a place like this, that can't happen. They aren't going to stay by your side - even figuratively - it takes away much of what it is they do here.

Thsi is making little or no sense I realize that. I guess I just want to know whether I should take the chance and do a leap of trust, or whether statistically it's a worthless measure.

*Help, I just want someone to tell me what to do!!* :)

Experts? Well, I'll give my two cents anyway...

It does take time and effort. Time sharing your thoughts
and feelings just like in any other relationship.
Hiding things will only cause harm, so it's about sharing the bad
just like you share the good :)
Messaging, eMails, phonecalls...
This is also a good place to see how the other person acts,
if they are different towards others...
In the end it all boils down to trust. But then that's just how I think...
Every relationship is different, as people are different.

And yes, it's hard when there isn't that physical contact.
Like I say...It not only sucks, it also bites and blows...

Well, I'll have to say that particular monster
doesn't lurk around me and my KittyKat :)

You just imagine having all that static
when I snuggle up to rub against his long fur...
I bet you he'd do some growling... :D

But the point is they do come back... and you can tell.... when he is telling the truth and you can tell if he's lying if you talk with him enough and you trust your instincts if it seems fishy it is....
