Monday's Suck!

He heard her tell him to wait, and then she blurted it out. Who the hell does that? Why wouldn't she do that in private? Or at least in someplace more secluded? What was her fucking deal?

"Excuse me? What did you say? Did you say that you are pregnant? Did you say you are pregnant with my child?" He stared at her in disbelief. This could derail everything he worked for. What the fuck was he going to do?

Vanessa could only nod. There were tears in her eyes as she saw the disbelief in his eyes. She knew he would probably reject it. Reject her.

Reject their child.

And she was ready for it. Well, at least she thought she was ready for it. So, with a careful breath, she kept her voice steady, "I know this isn't what you wanted to hear..especially from myself...I just found out and well, since I don't sleep around..." that was a laugh, since the first time in a long time, she did it with him, "But I...I just wanted you to know. I don't want anything from you nor require anything from you...I just wanted you to know."

He sat in stunned slence s they taxied toward the runway. This was throwing one hell of a monkey wrench into this trip. Not only did he have to deal with work, now, he had to del with THIS.

The engines revved and the plane went hurtling down the runway, and then began to rise above the earth. He turned to her. "You ask nothing of me? Who the fuck do you think you are. If that is my child in there, maybe I will be the one raising him/her, and perhaps I want nothing of you."

He sat there and stared at her... wondering how she would take his comment. Then he sat back and closed his eyes. He needed to let her think about that one.

What could Vanessa say...what could she do?

She just sat there stunned at what he said and was apalled at thought of him taking their baby from her...

As he sat back and closed his eyes, V could've slapped him but what good would that have done? She chose not to say anything else for awhile. She had to think of something.

How much of an asshole was he going to be about all this?

Mark had hoped he would be able to sleep all the way to brazil, but there was no way that was happening now. His mind was racing. Her being pregnant meant that they would have to have some level of interaction for years to come. What the hell would that be like?

He had always thought that she was attractive, but stuck up. They had hooked-up that night and had a great time.... at least he did, and he thought that she did, but then she ignored him and treated him so poorly. It was probably because he didn't travel in her social circle.

Well, they would have plenty of time to figure this out. It would have to happen after work though. He was not going to let this derail his long-range plans.

Vanessa didn't talk to Mark for the rest of the flight. Soon, the captain announced their arrival and for everyone to be prepared.

All she wanted to do was get this over with. Go to the hotel, unpack, get something to eat and tomorrow, when it was time to meet with the clients, she would put on a happy face and pretend that Mark was the best colleague that the company had to offer.

She'd do what she would do best and then go home.

That was it.

******
Once she collected her own luggage from the luggage area, Vanessa turned and started to leave the airport. She didn't remember that there was suppose to be some one to meet them...

Oh well, she could get to the hotel on her own...

As Mark descended the stairway toward the baggage claim he saw his name on a placard held by a man in a black suit. He walked over and spoke with the man briefly before heading over to the baggage carousel.

As he waited for his bags he noticed Vannessa standing on the other side of the baggage claim area. He tried to make eye contact with her, but it was obvious that she was avoiding his gaze. He wanted to let her know where the driver was going to meet them.

Mark saw his bags coming along and bent over to pick them up. After getting his bags off the carousel, he looked toward where Vanessa had been standing, and she wasn't there. He got a cart and wheeled his bags over to where the driver was. He asked the driver if he had seen or talked to Vanessa and he said that he had not. Mark gave the driver the bags and waited to see if he could find Vanessa.
