Movie Critics

Just a thought and movie in particular, but I think movie critics are wrong as much as the weatherman. Once my interest in seeing a movie has been raised, there is little a bad review from a movie critic can do to deter me from seeing a movie I want to see. Movies are entertainment, nothing more. So if I walk out of the movie and enjoyed what I seen, does it matter what the movie critics said about the movie.

I fucking doubt it.

I've never put too much stock into critics opinions as well. But like you said I go to a movie to be entertained and generally I am not looking for some deeper or underlying meaning. I guess to each their own though.

Surprisingly, I’ve enjoyed every movie I’ve ever seen on the big screen, despite what critics said. I can’t think of one movie I agreed with their bad review after paying to see the movie.

I would say that an individual opinion is often not that valuable, but aggregate opinion is rarely off. It's really unlikely for me to find a movie I think is legitimately good when the IMDB rating is below 7. There are some exceptions to be sure, but they're rare.

I do think you can often find a particular critic whose tastes align with your own and use them as a bellwether. For me, Joe Morgenstern in the WSJ was that guy for a long time.

Critics can be useful in drawing attention to a movie that might otherwise get overlooked, but for something like Avengers: Electric Boogaloo, they're pretty superfluous.

Spider-Man: Far from home was well worth seeing on the big screen. Gotta admit it, though, I liked seeing Mysterio as the villain. Can’t wait for the DVD.

In other news: They’re saying Avengers: Endgame has finally beaten Avatar.

Personally, I liked Avengers:Infinity War. Maybe it was the fact the bad guy wins at the end? Yeah, that’s it. I can’t stand “happy endings” all the time. Let the bad guys win once in awhile. It keeps things fresh and interesting.
