Truly, the Scalded Chipmunk is the most terrifying of the Clans, quiaff?

Yeah... *Eye shift* I may have read... some Mechwarrior books...

The Jade Phoenix trilogy was fantastic, Ghost War was a solid read, then there were a bunch of shitty Sphere books, and then Flight of the Falcon.

Cleric luvs Mechs.

A solid read? Ghost War was fantastic. Remember the clown suit? :D

Only in my most horrible nightmares.
Right up there with the Moogle Element Corp...

Was part of the a good Mechwarrior RP a few years back...

Never did any MW RPs, though I did play the MechWarrior 4 demo a while back. Found it a lot of fun to set the sim to night time with all mechs equipped with lights instead of night vision. :D

*ahem* Movies. There were two Ewoks movies. And a cartoon, but that's not relevant.

While I of course consider the OT to be the One True Canon, the prequels were fun too. Episode One was weak in places, but each of the prequels got progressively better, and I have to say I love EpIII (Revenge of the Sith is the only one of the movies I have rewatched multiple times since the whole trilogy came out, and has my favorite of the SW intros, even if the ship IS going in the wrong direction. That said, it seemed like Hayden Christiansen was trying too hard to be James Earl Jones as Anakin, which made all his acting seem overly stiff.

Star Trek, I like bits and pieces from all of the series. My favorite TOS episode is The Enterprise Incident, because it has the super hot Romulan lady in it (I think the only time we see a super-hot Romulan lady before TNG retconned Romulans so their women had deformed foreheads and John Lennon haircuts), though there are numerous episodes I will sit and watch if I see them come on.

TNG was weak for the first two seasons, then picked up greatly in the third. My favorite episode of TNG is "Yesterday's Enterprise", an alternate-history episode where Starfleet is losing a 20-year long war with the Klingon Empire. DS9 of course wasn't as cool as B5, but had its excellent moments too, along with some ginormous space battles, as well as the absolutely awesome tribble episode. Voyager I mostly liked for Tom Paris's holonovel, Captain Proton, where he was the hero in a black-and-white Flash Gordon-esque sci-fi serial. Enterprise I never got into, but the later episodes look highly interesting (oh, and it was always fun to watch the guy played by the guy who played Sam Beckett on Quantum Leap try to wrap his head around the concept of time travel)

Firefly and Babylon 5 are, of course, totally awesome in their own ways. I will grant that the Defiant would probably take a White Star in a fight. That said? There's like 300 White Stars, and any one of them can be modified into a one-time-use thermonuclear kamikazi for use on pesky enemy bases (or evil exes, whichver). :D

Stargate SG1 I like, though the earlier episodes are of course rather cheesy. I have to admit to liking the show more after they got some spaceships of their own (even if the ships DO look suspiciously like the BattleStar Galactica, and generally fail at being able to fight any of their enemies on a one-to-one basis without some sort of trickery or boobytrap.)

Other shows I like include Space: Above and Beyond (freaking awesome), old school BSG (never got into the new BSG, but it looks very good), and various sci-fi cartoons such as Exo-Squad, BattleTech, and Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicals (cartoon based on a mix of the movie and book, VERY good, with excellent (if somewhat canned) music. One episode of Roughnecks has my favorite intro scene in any cartoon, a Marine running down the length of a trench during a battle while various Marines fire their weapons over the top of the trench, or head off to their own things, or sit down for a rest, and one guy about to step up to start shooting reaches back to give the running guy a five as he runs past.

And then the running guy gets pounced by a bug leaping over the wall. :D

What the hell has happened to The Doctor........surely no one is a true geek/nerd until they have picked a favorite Doctor.

Is that a trick question? It's have to be Tom Baker, though I do like the current guy quite a bit, too...

I think the current one is doing a bang up job.
Nerdy and mildly distracted.

Though, the one right before him, Law help me for forgetting his name, while not the best Doctor, gave us a glimpse of a phenomenal actor.
This nerd will be watching for him in upcoming movies.

I heard they're supposed to make a good stew.

On this topic, the only reason the Star Wars movies made it was that they had muppets in them.

See my previous statement about Farscape for further details.

I hate to say it, but I never liked any SF shows. They never struck me as interesting. Now I know I'm going to get bashed for it, but really, I just don't see the point of having people fly around spaceships and have their own language and stuff.. I feel the same way with the same genre types of anime. Just never struck me as anything I was interested in.

That was part of the joy of Farscape. Translator parasites.

I was just seeing Chronie off to bed, and I left my beer on the bathroom sink. Next thing I know- the bottles still on the sink, empty o_O ( it was moved though.)
Gah! Men!
Thanks Wyld, but I think I'm going to go to bed- maybe shrug it off. It's nothing huge- just that I was talking to my ex boyfriend/ ex-room mate back in Ontario tonight and he said some kind of mean-hurtful things. I'll be better after a night's rest. Have a good night Wyld, and take a sip for me too :cathappy:

I was the same way.
I watched the pilot movie, and wasn't terribly impressed by it,so I didn't bother to watch the show.
Then,a local staion started airing them at 2:00 AM Sunday morning. It was in my pre-cable days,so there was nothing else on at that hour.
It was right near the beginning of season 4,during it's first run.
I started watching.I got hooked. Big time.

That following June,I moved to a new address, and got cable. Just in time, too,'cuz that's when TNT started running re-runs of the previous 3 seasons.
I haven't been the same,since.

Honestly, the reason I avoided it was not anything to do with the show... I've literally never even seen a single episode... I think I once saw about 3 minutes of one while channel surfing.
I avoided it because of Peter David & Harlan Ellison (Gods, I can't stand Ellison, arrogant prick in a bad hat). I attended a panel they gave at a con, and all they did was bitch for about an hour that DS9 was a rip off of Babylon 5, and how much better than any Trek Bab 5 was, and so on and so forth. I'm so tired of Ellison's sour grapes with Roddenberry, and the Trek franchise ( I mean, get over it, already), that the two of them bitching about it annoyed me so much that I refused to even give the show a chance.

It's intresting, that Peter David would bitch about Trek,he's written a number of Trek novels. And Ellison wrote one of the most popular classic Trek episodes,"City on the Edge of Forever."

I've been a life-long Trek fan,but I'm forced to agree with Mr Ellison.(somewhat)
In some ways,B5 is better.

If I recall,Ellison was only the creative consultant on B5. Don't let his bitterness make you miss out on a great show. It's definitely worth watching.(if you like that sort of thing)

Well, he DID have a minor guest role in one episode of B5, when they accidentally reactivated the station's AI. They needed the most annoying, nagging, obnoxious, impossible to shut the hell up voice they could find to play the AI.

And so Harlan got an acting job on Babylon 5. :D

But yes, don't miss B5 just because you can't stand one of the people that writes for it. You're missing out on so freaking much.

Heh. You don't have to remind Ellison that he wrote that episode. That's the source of his bitch-fest. The teleplay had to (due to the limitations of the medium) be altered from his original story. That's fairly typical in adapting from one medium to another, no? But to ask him, the story was mangled and destroyed, regardless of the success of the episode. Creative sour grapes. Nothing more.

I don't have any intention of not watching it, now that I have an opportunity to sit down and do so from the beginning. It was just that, at the time, it was a real turn-off. I mean, to spend the majority of a panel discussion at a con whining that "They stole our idea! And ours is better anyway!" just really irked me.
